Strike three Stopper. I was referring to your chewing gum and walking simultaneously. Once again, you are really, really bad at reading and comprehending what is being addressed.

LANDOVER, Md. ? The Browns earned a rare prime-time valentine from ESPN after drafting Johnny Manziel.

Or, you think the nation was clamoring for a Monday night matchup featuring two teams with a combined seven wins last year?

Anyway, the game against the Washington Redskins is the last one before Browns coach Mike Pettine names a starting quarterback. That's the focus for many tonight as Johnny Manziel tries to close ground on presumptive Week 1 starter Brian Hoyer. But the staff here at "Five Browns Players . . ." (OK, it's just me) likes to explore the lower rungs of he depth chart, as well.

So, we're skipping the obvious quarterback taffy-pull and moving on. Here's five Browns players who need to play well at FedExField:

Running back Isaiah Crowell: There was some buzz surrounding the undrafted free agent when general manager Ray Farmer signed the Alabama State product the day after the draft. But Crowell, who missed much of spring practice with an injury, did not earn a carry in the preseason opener against Detroit. Crowell needs some positive momentum assuming he sees the field.

Cornerback Leon McFadden: The second-year defensive back returns to Five Browns Players for a second straight week. He gets a big opportunity with injuries to Buster Skrine and Pierre Desir. McFadden was flagged for two holding penalties in Detroit, one nullifying his interception. With the first wave of cuts looming, he needs a good showing.

Running back Dion Lewis: He had a forgettable pre-season opener with a fumble inside the Lions' 30. Lewis finished with six yards on three carries. With lots of competition at running back, the 23-year-old cannot afford another off night.

Receiver Willie Snead: After a strong start to camp and impressive team scrimmage, the Ball State product has lost his momentum. He had at least one dropped pass in the Lions game. The undrafted free agent is fighting for a roster spot with the likes of Charles Johnson and Taylor Gabriel. Gabriel also can contribute in special teams.

Safety Josh Aubrey: The previous administration really liked the defensive back, whose rookie year was cut short with an ankle injury. He's best remembered for his 34-yard run on a fake punt against Minnesota. Aubrey played well in the pre-season opener and earned praise from Pettine. "He's really showed up when we've done live work," the coach said. "I thought that he had a good scrimmage, he made a couple of nice plays in the game, forced a fumble, had another tackle but he's a guy that's fighting for a spot. He's doing everything he can."

    Happy Monday Lounge Houndz... :p

    Wahooo it's game day *YAHOO*

Let us hope that is an injury free outing with plenty of scoring by the Browns offense and a shutout performance by the defense. *DRINK*

    :-X

    Yo Bluez,

Make sure that the haul route for the GF's shtuff goes by the local thrift store dropoff and then the landfill to lighten your load before it gets to your new place. ;)

Duff goodluck with your move and closing on both places this week... *OK*

Am off to get lost in the corn fields of Iowa for the rest of the week.

Catch ya'll on the flip side.

    ps...

be careful of he who stays at the holiday inn express ;)

I could have missed the first quarter, and felt better. At least it ends in a tie, but ouch!

I may stop watching Pro Football if they continue calling defensive penalties they way they have the past two weeks...I think the NFL wants to start seeing scoring go the way of Arena League...

Offensive line, particularly the right side, looks awful.

offense is OFFENSIVE to watch . gouging my eyes out now :!

it will be a loooong year unless they can muster up something that looks like a NFL Offense . I can see one tired defense .

why does it take 17 words to call out one &^%$# play in Shanahans offense ? that has to be confusing as hell .

  18. Well fellas here is what I see so far from the Brownies.

    1. The offense is terrible. They look out of sinc. I dont care if its Johnny or Brian it's time to pick one and roll with him. They look like 2 different offenses out there. If that's the case then after this game PICK ONE and move on.

    2. Mitchell Schwartz absolutely SUCKS!!! Getting beat like a rag doll. His feet are to slow to play tackle. Speed rushers have and will destroy him. Which will get Johnny or Brian KILLED!

    3. The RB's are still moving the ball forward. For all of you guys that like running offenses and defense, this is obviously your new Cleveland Browns.

Sloppy game so far tonight. After watching this game there is no doubt in my mind that this team has a divided locker room from the QB's. Manziel did put them in the end zone. Hoyer, in my mind is on his way to holding the clip board.

    GO Brownies

    Brutal

    predictable

    same ol

How can they be THAT ef'n embarrassing?? the phuquin first play summed up the entire game....just awful! Oh well. At least the entire world got to say "oh Cleveland" (with a chuckle) after about 8 seconds of gametime.

I knew the QB's would struggle because of the complete "horses ass" plan they had goin into this fiasco, but I really didn't expect both QB's to be so horribly innaccurate.....WOW! Hoyer choked SO freakin bad! wholly crap! Way to seize the job Mr. hometown hero..lol!

lets just see what we got with Manziel and freakin take the other 4 teams' word for it that Hoyer is a back-up at best...

  20. TopDawg Legend

Charlie Casserly said a couple weeks ago that the Browns will be using both next year's #1 draft picks to try and find a real QB.....Now I know it's way to early to give up on what we got, but damn, after that debacle we just witnessed tonight....chuck be lookin pretty smart.
