Man, oh man. Just heard that Robin Williams died of apparent suicide. What a bummer. Lost a great comedian and actor.

    RIP Robin Williams.

    And Nanu Nanu.

It's a sad day, Robin Williams was a comedic genius...

    RIP

  4. Just want to chime in after the Brownie game.

    1. The defense does look faster. The team as a whole looked faster.
    2. I seen some nice runs from West. With Tate being injury prone it is nice to see another big back do his thing.
    3. I like the pistol offense for Manziel.
    4. I know it was against 2nd team guys but at that level the game didn't look to fast for him.

I am a Manziel guy. I think he does have the "it" factor. As someone wrote above he did close the gap between he and Hoyer. He earned the right to play with the 1st team. It wasn't to much for him. Getting him were we did was a steal. I would also like to see him in there with the 1's. We all know what Hoyer can do. But all in all I'm still pretty positive about this team. GOOOOOO BROWNIES!!!!!!

    Read this earlier today.

It produces some questions, these 2 standout out to me -

Do the Browns feel that they need to carry 3 QBs due to injury concerns?
Are they non-committal towards Hoyer this early in the season?
Will Grossman be given a chance to compete for the job and if so, what does that say about their believe in either Hoyer or Manziel?

    Yes

    No

    No

Nothing. It has volumes to say about their belief in Thigpen.

BEREA (92.3 The Fan) ? The Cleveland Browns signed veteran quarterback Rex Grossman Tuesday.
    Tyler Thigpen was released.
Grossman enters his 12th NFL season.
Originally a first-round pick (22nd overall) by Chicago in 2003, Grossman has appeared in 54 games and is 25-22 (.532) as a starter. He has completed 863 of 1,562 career passes for 10,232 yards with 56 touchdowns and 60 interceptions.
Thigpen was 3 of 12 for 38 yards and an interception in Saturday?s preseason opening loss at Detroit.
Meanwhile Johnny Manziel warmed up with center Alex Mack prior to practice, an indication that he will receive reps with the first-team offense today.
Head coach Mike Pettine said Monday that Manziel would see time with the fist-team offense during practice this week.

And . . . don't forget about Conner Shaw. He's still on the roster as well.

I think the 3/12 for 38 yards and a pick says it all.

Pretty much what I was thinking, and if that's the case then its a non-story, basic roster move.

Which all but guarantees that some Manziel nut hugging reporter is going to find a JF angle to run with in all of this.

Bingo! The only way a story would have better is if they beat the Dolphins to the punch in signing Brady Quinn. :p

There has been talk about Rex Grossman coming here ever since we hired Kyle Shanahan....He is a guy that is familiar with the system, and he has to be an upgrade over Thigpen, though I don't think Hoyer or Manziel need to worry.

Duff, that was an interesting article about Pettine and his teaching philosophies. The more I learn about Mike Pettine, the more I like him. I think Haslam made a good hire there....

I like Pettin's note pad approach, but I am old, so that probably / definitely influences my perspective. The data about how the act of writing help imprint ideas has been proven time and again, but the fact that one has to essentially take the idea and interpret it into his own notes makes a lot of sense too. Like it. Old or not.

Pettine remains an unknown to me, but I do like that aspect. He seems pretty level in his approach. I have to wonder about his ability to reach the players if his meetings are described as "like a school lecture" though. I guess we will see. Buy in is critical to get the most out of a team. Will his approach get it????

Rest in Peace, Robin Williams. The manic comic who expanded into a convincing dramatic actor, and by all accounts a truly warm and interested man, will be hard to replace. God bless him and all those touched by him. A very sad end.

The Grossman signing was only a matter of time. I agree w/ Lym and it says more about Thigpen than Hoyer or JF.

I have to agree with the rest of the loungers on the Grossman signing. I think Thigpen is already in retirement mode and they need a veteran arm these next 2-3 weeks to help these receivers get on track.

I think that is the most important mission for this team over these next 3 preseason games, the receivers are no where near game ready and the QBs (both of them) are so far ahead, the receivers will stunt their growth no matter who is starting. In order to get them caught up, you need live arms throwing balls constantly. You can't make enough passes with only 2-3 QBs in camp.

Grossman may not (probably won't) even make the final roster...

BEREA, Ohio -- The Browns have signed 12th-year quarterback Rex Grossman, who's played for offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan for five seasons, and waived third-string quarterback Tyler Thigpen.

Grossman will not only be able to help implement Shanahan's scheme, but serve as a mentor to both Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer.

Grossman (6-foot-1, 225) is 25-22 as a starter, meaning he has the most starting experience on the team by far. Hoyer has started four NFL games, including three for the Browns last season.

Grossman spent the previous four seasons in Washington with Shanahan, who was offensive coordinator there. He went 10-16 in his 16 starts with the Redskins, including 5-8 in 2011 and 1-2 in 2010.

He also played for Shanahan in 2009 with the Texans.

Grossman was a first-round pick (22nd overall) by Chicago in 2003 out of Florida.
In his 54 games, he's completed 863 of 1,562 career passes for 10,232 yards with 56 touchdowns and 60 interceptions.

He spent his first six seasons (2003-08) with the Bears and led Chicago to Super Bowl XLI during his first full season as the starter.

Last season, he was inactive for the first 13 games and was activated for the final but didn't play.

The Browns still have four quarterbacks on the roster, including rookie Connor Shaw. Thigpen, signed as a free agent in May, went 3-for-12 with an interception against the Lions on Saturday night for a 5.6 rating. He was in his seventh year and had gone 5-24 in his career.

Well, our butthead buyers have finally agreed on closing and a moving date with us and our new house's owners so they can move too. Been like pulling teeth since they haven't been willing to compromise on anything proposed. And now, it came down to we (and the current owners of our new house) couldn't get movers and a moving truck for any other time because these azz wipes have been dragging their stubborn feet on agreeing on a suitable date for them. Moving on the 22nd (the day we originally proposed to these azz wipes) and if we have access to our new house on Wed. or Thurs. before, we can take a few loads over ahead of time.

Hey Lym, not sure when we can get the cable guy in to set up the internet, so I may need you to set a first week lineup. I'll let you know from work here when I find out.
