  1. I just used ur quote Tim, but pretty much addresses all the above....it seems people are more worried bout football and his stats and future career....the point was he needs 2 hit rock bottom and mayb that will click and he will become a more mature person like Carter did....very selfish to worry bout what his career will b when other players are saying this kid needs help and its coming from a former abuser himself. Most of us werent in Gordon's shoes, but Im sure CC knows exactly what hes going thru and he thinks that will help him

For as many mistakes as Josh Gordon has made publically. I've heard he's even a worse person behind closed doors.

I don't take what reporters say as gospel but I'd be inclined to believe this.

No 2 cases are alike and whatever went on in Carter's life may not be as similar as what is going on in Josh's as what he believes.

From a business point of view it makes no sense to cut him.

From a human point of view I don't believe it does either. At this point what you are saying is that he no longer warrants a chance to correct the issue from the Browns and that he should be left to his own devices to figure it out. That forcing him to hit rock bottom will correct his issues and I don't buy into that at all.

To assume that Carter knows exactly what he is going through is misguided at best, unless Gordon is a heavy abuser of cocaine and ecstasy, 2 things I don't believe he has ever tested positive for.

Spot on assessment Tim. No two addicts are alike whether it's booze or drugs or both.

You can't make a person hit rock bottom and you can't make them get help. If you force the issue by cutting him, who knows if he's hit bottom yet. Things could get a whole lot worse, maybe to the point of full blown dependency and possible overdose and death if he's "pushed" off the ledge. The only person who can get him help is Gordon. He's gonna have to want the help before he can be helped. Balls in his court and I hope he realizes hes staring into the abyss.

So Ive been absent for a few weeks...and Im not going to read back through pages and pages of posts...haha. Summertime can be hectic with kids schedules.

So I was wondering if everyone has seen the Browns Billboard that has popped up in Tyler, Tx (where I live)? It reads: "Tyler, Tx is now Cleveland Browns Country 'paid for by a former Cowboys fan" and you can see a #2 Jersey on the side of it. about a mile down the road from that is a digital billboard and there is a slide on it that has Johnny in uniform and says "Go Johnny! Go Browns!".

I almost wrecked my truck when i saw the digital one. Its really awesome to live in the heart of cowboy country and there are more Browns advertisements than there are Cowboys. Im going to get my kids all dressed up in their Browns gear and get a picture in front of the one billboard as soon as my schedule allows it.

  6. I agree no 2 cases are the same, but Carter understands the dependency of whatever drug is coming into play....how ur body feels when he doesnt have it, etc.....he has had multiple chances to correct his issues as he has been suspended numerous times in college and the NFL....it comes down to Gordon accepting he has a problem and trying to correct that problem instead of denying it.

  7. Campbell Administrator Manager Commissioner

I agree with this, but what is the real problem?

Is it an addiction? Possibly, but I think it is something else.

    Arrogance.

  8. Well getting suspended for a yr and possibly released may fix that arrogance problem and I think that is what CC is trying to say

  9. Campbell Administrator Manager Commissioner

I understand what he is trying to say.

    I disagree with his assumption.

  10. I gotcha

    I also disagree.

If getting booted by not one, but TWO college teams, and then suspended for two games by the NFL doesn't knock some arrogance out of him, what will?

You act like it's their obligation to kick him into the abyss of hitting rock bottom...Which in turn could send him into a spiral of death. How about NOT doing that and praying that he gets some help that eventually leads to him becoming the best WR to ever play the game. All the while, the original team that welcomed him in despite his off field issues, in turn stands by his side and they enjoy his career together. Wouldn't THAT be a nice change to kicking him to the curb and not caring where the hell he ends up?

  13. Duff_Beer_Doug Franchise Player Browns Indians C&D Club

Then there won't be anything to gripe about, Irish. Nobody can complain if he's suspended for a year and gets help and fixes that 10-cent head of his. And nobody can gripe if we keep him at no cost while he's suspended and doesn't turn things around. It'll be, "Well, at least they waited to find out and what a disappointment he turned out to be. At least he wasn't on the payroll or taking up a roster spot."

Now if Gordon gets cut and then straightens out with some other team, then it'll be, "what a bunch of idiots the guys in the front office were! Can't believe they cut a Pro-Bowler!" Now that would be something to bitch and moan about.

And you know what a big ray of sunshine Stopper constantly brings to our little old chatboard.

  14. I was using the example of a former drug abuser who said it did him good so mayb thats what Gordon needed....all I know is since he became a Brown he has been in trouble during his yrs so what have they been doing over the last couple of yrs?
If he gets cut like Carter did and realizes he must straighten out thats a success in the kids life....u know like Carter says I thank Buddy Ryan everyday for what he did for me. Mayb if Ryan keeps him, Carter isnt around right now.

  15. Not an obligation, but it culd b a reward if the kid eventually realizes I need to change or culd end up dead.....I culd care less if he ever plays again but if he gets the help he needs to succeed in life then the Browns shuld b happy w their decision.

You're just not hearing the message Stopper. No two addicts are alike. What worked for Carter to turn it around may not work for Gordon. Carter also had religion in his up-bringing and became much more devout while going thru his rehab process. Not too sure about Gordon on this. Also, Carter is a smarter guy with a more entitled childhood than Gordon, which tends to provide a better support network.

So, once again, what worked for Carter may not work for Gordon. So why cut Gordon, when it costs the Browns nothing and it at least gives Gordon some sense of belonging and a larger purpose to strive for as he tries to overcome his troubles?

    While Sammy has taken over as this site's Lead Analyst for the Browns, I have kind of adopted the role of "NFL Historian". So far I have two articles up and posted that attempt to walk the reader through the earlier years of the NFL. To make it easy for all of you to find them, here's a link to my page;

    http://live4sportnetwork.com/frontend/author/lyman/

Over the course of researching for these articles (and a third that's in the works) a number of story lines jumped out at me and I will attempt to bring these stories to you as I go forward. My plan is to let the young pups on here debate the pros and cons of individual players, games and/or seasons while I will look at the league in much larger buckets of time.

Any feedback would be appreciated (I have thick skin) or if you would like me to look into a specific aspect of the game, let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. L4SN is working on the "All Posts by Jason Smail" banner on this page . . . They really are mine. :|

{edit} Yup . . . they're working on it. Now it reads, "All Posts by Mathew McKinnie" :D
