What a fracking idiot. Gordon arrested again. This time for DUI. Irish, man help me out here or anyone else. What is Gordon's contract like? What exactly is it? With this arrest, there is no doubt that he will be suspended for the year. I said this earlier but we need to get rid of this douche. He is to immature to play for me. Attitude to me outweighs talent. We lose with him. We have a more talented Blackmon here fellas. Manziel isn't a cancer, he is. It's now time to look at the contract and try to get him out of here. The NFL needs to suspend him so we can trade him or cut him out right. This beat down team can't have this moron here anymore. He's selfish and self destructive. Which will destruct the team in the process. Say good bye to the drugy and be done with it. Now, also as I said earlier it's time for Farmer to dangle 1 of those top 3 picks to get a legit WR. Time to move on without him. This team needs more than Burleson and Hawkins at the WR spot. Time now to go get someone. Looking at 2 very high 1st rd. picks and a high 2nd rd. pick, one should net you a very good WR. Time for Farmer to get on the horn and make a deal. We have the ammo to do this. Plus the salary room. Go get it done! So in closing I want to know if we cut him what is the penalty. When he is suspended we wont have to pay him. But what about the rest of his contract? Phuque this loser time to move on.
If you cut him you have to pay him. From what I've seen his salary is guaranteed for 2014. That's probably the result of an incentive written into his original deal but that's just me speculating. If you wait and he gets suspended you owe him nothing. Either way, there is no penalty of any significance. Costs you an extra 68,000 in dead money.
Good looking out Beach. I'm just tired of this phuque. If I'm Farmer I'm still on the phones trying to get a WR. Like I said before we have the ammo to improve this team. We have the picks and the money to get something done. I feel it's time to do so, man. Then if he comes back next year great. If we do cut him, then dont let the door knob hit you in the arse. But THANX, man.
OK he's an idiot. So why are we still waiting for the league to make it's move? Is it possible either the team or Gordon are asking for time, due to some contractual issues which are advantageous to putting off the inevitable suspension. Secondarily, does the alchohol abuse count against his disciplinary mandate, or is it just another mark of stupidity? We finally have a QB who has shown he can move the team and win, get a new QB with potential, and we lose the one and only exceptional offensive weapon in the same time frame. Crap! Now it is clear why his name kept coming up as trade bait last year, when it looked like we were going to give him up. Apparently his issues were no secret, and the rest of the league was wary. Good Call! I still believe we will be a better "team" this year, but without the explosive over the top threat, it will undermine most of the improvement we might have expected in the running game and make those short routes much tighter. Crap again!
That's my thought's Ken. This kid is going to end up down a dark path. I heard that this suspension will cost him about $4 million dollars. Obviously he doesn't think much of money. He is only signed through next year. 2016 he would of been a free agent. D. Jackson told CBS and yahoo that someone needs to help him. The success he has had has gone to, up and over his head. Of coarse his family members are going to say being away from the team and his support system will hurt him. They will lose out on their cash cow. Football is the only place he can earn that type of money. He doesn't have a college degree because of drugs. He dominated the NFL. But fellas right now he already has 1 foot out the door. Not just with the Browns but with the NFL. Do they (his family) know if he is suspended he doesn't get paid? Which means they don't get paid. With that comment I can read between the lines. Gordon's family might be the problem. He obviously isn't mature or smart enough to think about anyone but himself. This is like the great athlete in high school that couldn't stay on the field because of grades and ends up at a dead end job in town somewhere. Ken you are right. The curse of Ernie Davis is alive and kicking. After 15 years you are finally putting pieces together to build a good team then BOOM this happens. I do believe the Browns are cursed and I think it began with Ernie Davis. We all know the story of the Express. Some say in college he was better than Brown. But things out of that young mans control changed not only his future, the team but the whole damn towns. With Gordon this is his damn fault but he will hurt this team with stupidity. An NFL shouldn't put up with that. They hold the money which means they hold the cards and Gordon just keeps on throwing away aces. Since he will and should be suspended this year the Browns need to let him go. Down the path this young man is heading he wont be in the NFL that long anyway. The NFL is a business. Gordon is bad business. In 2015 someone will sign him to a deal. He may come back and destroy you. He may end up at Walmart. You never know. All I do know is that the Browns need to trade for a WR and move on. The Browns won't have to pay his salary this year. He is still under contract with us through 2015. But if I'm Farmer or Haslam I'm done with him and looking for another true #1 WR. Then if he does mature and comes back close to the same you are good to go. If not you still have a proven #1 and you draft on next year. Thats how I see it anyway.
Dumb ass, *KISSING* at this point just wait for the year out. *ROSE* The Browns can catch a break. :!
Actually, once the suspension is official, he is under contract until 2016. Not only do they not have to pay his salary in 2014, the contract follows his suspension and picks up when he returns to the team. So, there is absolutely no reason to drop this troubled kid. As much as I am pissed at his decisions, he needs to use this year to receive help. You are right, he could end up at Wal-Mart, just like Cris Carter did...oh wait...no that was the HOF. I am not saying Josh Gordon is a HOF player, what I am saying is he is a player that needs help, like Carter did. Who knows his potential if he ever gets his head on straight. To cut him, when you aren't even paying him or have virtually no contract obligations to him makes Zero business sense.
[h]Happy Hangover Monday Lounge Houndz[/h] Hope everone had an enjoyable safe fun filled holiday weekend. *SHADES* Fixed it for ya Irish I agree there is no reason the Browns should bail on this kid, yet. They hold the rights to his contract and they wont have to pay him. I certainly hope he gets himself into a treatment and counciling program to turn his life around. Obviously there is more to this than a young kid doing dumb things. *WALL* *HELP* @= As to the comment of Farmer using one or more first round picks to go get a "legit" WR. *REF* WHO? Tell me WHO do you think he could bring in that would be worthy of that kind of investment. Also tell me what Team is going to be willing to let that Player go. As for me I cannot think of ANY WR out there that would be potentially avialiable to the Browns worthy of first round pick/s.
The bolded part of Irish's post is where the real problem lives. Once the suspension is in place, Gordon is no longer allowed to be in contact with the team - either physically on the premises or remotely via direction or guidance. That will result in Josh relying on his home boys to push him down the right path to rebound. Yea, right. We've seen this movie before with him.
Good point Lym, and one of the most unfortunate the problems with the NFL. By restricting any access to a players teammates, coaches, and the orginization in general only makes it harder for these kids to get the help they need. I can understand not letting them near the facility or being allowed to participate in team activities during a suspension, but by not allowing any communication with the orginization it takes away from them the support system that they need and hinders their recovery process. How else are you supposed to surround these kids with the right people and provide a solid support system if they are not allowed to be in contact with those people. That is one thing I feel that should be readdressed in the CBA.
I agree that these kids need help, but the Browns have known this kid has had a problem for many yrs and didnt seem to do much according to sources....at some point the person needs to realize I need help and admit I have a problem....after knowing he was set for an appeal in 2-3 weeks and still go out and get drunk is just mind boggling and shows where his priorities are right now
Cris Carter thinks the Browns must release Gordon for him to have a chance to grow and overcome his abuse....its a complete wake up call and thats what helped him out
It may work or it may not. For every Cris Carter that's released and takes it as a wake up call, there's a Rolando McClain. Cut by Oakland and still didn't get his act together. O
Not to seem self absorbed, but cutting him does nothing for the Browns...IF he gets help during his time off, they can help him long term. Then he can personally decide to stick with that team, since they stuck by him, or take his enormous pay increase elsewhere in the 2016 free agency. Cutting him, doesn't cost money, it doesn't save money, it doesn't get rid of a locker room cancer. For all signs show he is a good teammate, he simply can't get his act together once he leaves the building. The help will have to be self induced, but if he gets it, I want him to do it as part of the Browns. Cutting him does nothing...
Irish is on the money with this, there is absolutely no reason to cut him until you see what develops. A month from now he could become a devout workout freak that travels with a self help guru that teaches him how to get high on life. Its an unknown right now that the Browns might not have to pay a dime for. Just let it ride for a little and see what happens next.
I agree . . . for the most part. The part of this I do question is the "or take his enormous pay increase elsewhere in the 2016 free agency" part. Gordon is currently staring a one year suspension right in the grill. A player doesn't reach that lofty position by only phuquing up once. If I'm not mistaken, his next gaff could possibly cost him a banishment for life (?). What team is going to shell out an enormous pay increase for a guy who has a history like that? Would any of you guys pay this guy anything if the chances are better than average that he will never be allowed to play in the NFL again?
maybe i missed it, but does the drunk driving charge count against his NFL discipline? Not condoning or asking for favors, just trying to understand how that singular act of stupidity impacts the rules he is supposed to live by. In the larger picture, I agree with Lym and IDog, no business reason to make any move at this point. The verdict hasn't been announced, and the assumption that he gets a year off, is still just that. What would you say if he was suspended for 6 games or even 8 games? Frankly, I would hold the same position, and wait to see if he could miraculously keep himself clean over the suespension period. Getting through that much time without proclaiming himself "lost forever" seems like a remote possibility. I sincerely hope he gets straightened out, for his sake mostly. There is a lot of living to do for such a young man, and it would be a shame to self destruct before he's 25, and spend 50 years regretting it. C'mon Josh, reach for help. You'll be surprised at how many people will want to help.
