This is just mind numbing...Am I the only one that thinks "showstopper" might just be a clever little ploy from the fine folks that run this site? You know what I mean. Someone that always "instigates" conversation by whatever means necessary. Just a thought....Probably not.

wouldn't be that hard to pull off though really....not sure if I think that is actually the case here, but the thought has crossed my mind. I mean, how can anybody be so disagreeable?

Was it showstopper that argued with me that Sheard couldn't play in the 3-4?

No Kool-Aid from me Crex. I'm tempering my expectations this year. I'll believe it when I see it. Kinda enjoyed Sundays with my kids and going fishing. I may not give up on them this year, should they take an early season nose-dive, but I can always tape the game and watch it later.

Happy Friday the 13th. Full moon tonight too!!!!

Why are we so fearful of Friday the 13th?
CLEVELAND, Ohio ? Today is Friday the 13th, so have you had an unbelievable stretch of bad luck so far today?

Friday the 13th is generally associated with omens and bad luck, but why this specific day as opposed to any other day?

Perhaps the dark fears are rooted in Christianity, as USA Today explained. It was on a Friday that Jesus was crucified, and ever since, the day has been associated with "general ill omen," said Michael Bailey, a history professor at Iowa State University who specializes in the origins of superstitions.

Bailey said in the Middle Ages, for instance, weddings were not held on Fridays, nor did people set out on a journey on a Friday.

Stuart Vyse, a psychology professor at Connecticut College, said Friday was also unlucky in medieval times because it was "hangman's day."

As for the number 13, Vyse said, seating 13 people at a table was seen as bad luck because Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus, is said to have been the 13th guest at the Last Supper.

It's unclear exactly when Friday and the number 13 became linked, but there are no mentions of Friday the 13th before the 19th century, Bailey and Vyse said.

Outside of an obscure British study, which noted an increase in London traffic accidents, there is no evidence that Friday the 13th is any less lucky than any other day, the New York Daily News reported.

But there is a fear of the number 13 that is deeply ingrained in many cultures and which is called triskaidekaphobia.

The ancient Romans believed the moon caused madness and gave us the term "lunatic." And over the years, various studies have shown slight upticks in crime on nights where there are full moons. In 1995, for example, relatives of a technician who shot two co-workers said a full moon was partly to blame for his violent outburst.

But there have been no documented werewolf sightings on nights when there are full moons. Not even on Friday the 13th nights when the moon is full, as is the case tonight.

According to National Geographic, some research suggests you may actually be a bit safer on this ill-omened day. And superstitions, when not taken to extremes, can even give some believers a psychological boost.

Friday the 13th's mental benefits can include a sense of order, something that can be lacking in modern lives, said Rebecca Borah, a professor of English at the University of Cincinnati. Superstitions are attempts to understand and even control fate in an uncertain world.

"When you have rules and you know how to play by them, it always seems a lot easier," she said. "If you have Dracula, you can pretty much figure out how to avoid him, or go out and get the garlic and be able to ward off evil. That's pretty comforting."

Friday the 13th can offer structure in a world where random and uncontrollable worries range from school shootings to extreme weather.

"It's comforting in that we can sort of handle Friday the 13th," Borah added. "We don't do anything too scary today, or double check that there's enough gas in the car or whatever it might be. Some people may even stay at home?although statistically most accidents happen in the home, so that may not be the best strategy."

So avoid walking under ladders and don't let black cats cross your path. Do that and this Friday the 13th may not be so unlucky after all.

I'm gonna miss that stuff :(

I hear ya there Duff. Hopefully this team finally has a FO and coaching staff that will be around for more than a season or two. So far I do like how Famer is putting this roster together. I hope that Pettine and his staff can get these kids whipped into shape and field a competative team every week.

Can't blame you there Duff. I have found myself spending many Sundays do that very thing. Saves on the stress and the wife doesn't get after me for yelling at the TV. :D

  16. How's this for popcorn.....comparing Sheard and Mario Williams....HILARIOUS

Let me know when Sheard hits double figures in sacks.

  17. I can see reading and comprehension still isn't "your thing" stopper.... no one compared Sheard to Williams, what was posted however was that Sheard is playing the "Williams role" meaning a 3-4 edge rusher! Don't worry Stopper, keep working on your reading and comprehension skills, they'll come to you! We'll be here to help when you make yourself look like an idiot! :D

  18. Well if 6'6 and 290 and 6'2 250 can play the same position and b effective....let me know

  19. beachbum Legend Manager Steelers

First of all Sheard was 6'3" 264 at the combine so unless he shrunk you are simply making up the 6'2" 250 comment. Second, anyone that claims to know how a guy like Sheard fits in the 3-4 ought to know it's Mario Williams that is the atypical 3-4 OLB.

Try something new Stopper. I'll walk you through it...

"My bad, I didn't think he would play well in that scheme but I was wrong. He's a nice player."

It's not so hard. Give it a try.

  20. Clay Matthews 6'3'' 255... I'm sure I could find others, but just one example is enough to prove you wrong here! :D
