Cause he did it only 4-5 times when the game was close....he was spectacular if u like hidden stats....making catches when the defense is playing prevent/loose is building up stats....another example....catching a 43 yd TD vs Chic w 1 min left is another meaningless stat...yet it makes his season totals look good if u just look at stats...guess how many catches he had in the 4Q before that catch.....0.....spin it however u want, but Im giving proven examples of how his season culd b misleading.
Playing prevent/loose is one thing, however BEATING prevent/loose over the top is quite another. That defense is derived to stop what Gordon did, and it didn't work very well. It isn't like he was settling in over the middle 10 yards deep and catching 10 balls for 120 yards per game in garbage like you elude to. He was beating defenders deep consistently, as you state, IN PREVENT. That may be the most difficult thing to do as a wide receiver and he made it look easy. Edit:BTW, if you actually watched the games you would have seen broadcast after broadcast of QBs missing open Gordon early in the game, choosing check downs as opposed to going for the kill. There is no accounting for the QB play he had to deal with all season. The fact of these guys have waited until they were forced to make a comeback takes nothing away from Gordon's ability to get open. Your use of stats(even gaudy one's, like Gordon's) proves time and again how little you either watch the games or how little of an understanding you have for it. If you truly are a coach, I feel bad for the position players you handle...they don't have a chance.
On a side note Tim...I know you give out the little jerseys based on #of posts, but can we get a revocation of Stopper's? He is neither a hometown favorite, or even a true Browns fan. It is a slap in the face to see a Browns jersey under his info...
Given the expected suspension of star receiver Josh Gordon, someone is going to have to step up in a big way for the Browns this year. And it might be one of the smallest guys on the roster. First-round cornerback Justin Gilbert said that in his short time in Cleveland, he?s been impressed with diminutive receiver Andrew Hawkins. ?I?d rather guard [Josh] Gordon than him,? Gilbert said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. ?He?s so little and quick. Those guys are hard to get a handle on. He?s out there making plays every day.? The 5-foot-7, 180-pound Hawkins came over this season as a restricted free agent from the Bengals, and Gilbert isn?t the only one noticing his impact. For-now starting quarterback Brian Hoyer said he saw a similarity to Wes Welker there. ?The one guy I like more and more every day I work with is Andrew Hawkins,? Hoyer said. ?The guy runs his routes so hard. It reminds me a lot of my time in New England with Welker, where the guy runs every route to win. He?s going full blast. You see him out there and you can tell when he walks back to the huddle, he gave his all on every play. He?s just a competitor, and I think the more guys you get like that, the better your team becomes.? Of course, the Browns need all they can get of that kind of workmanlike effort, since their best receiver hasn?t been able to show his priority is staying eligible to play.
Any time there?s a regime change, there will be certain useful players who might not fit the new one. That may be the case in Cleveland, as the Browns just cut outside linebacker Quentin Groves, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. Groves finished last year on injured reserve, but is healthy now. The former second-round pick has always shown just enough pass-rush ability to stay employed, but has just 8.5 sacks in six seasons with the Jaguars, Raiders, Cardinals and Browns. His best year was a 4.0-sack season in 2012 with the Cardinals.

Give RESPECT to the greatest Generation on this Day . my old man was at Omaha Beach offshore with the US Navy shelling the beach head his brother was on the same beach with the US Army . I remember my uncle thanking my dad for not dropping any more Chit on him while he was on the beach. the Germans were dropping enough . it was good they could still rib one another after all that .
You named 4 games that helped the Browns win when it mattered then named 1 where he got "garbage time" yards. How about this, for all the talk about Gordon disappearing at times, tell me who on the offense was actually taking pressure off him? He was arguably the best offensive player on the team. The only competition for that title was your LT and possibly C. No RB, WR, or even QB helped Gordon enough. Even Calvin Johnson has been taken out of games when the coverage is focused on him, and he's the most physically gifted WR in the league, possibly in league history. Someone else said it, but are you also considering how many bad throws, throws to other receivers, or even sacks also helped make it seem like Gordon disappears? Just because a pass wasn't thrown Gordon's way, doesn't mean he wasn't open, for example
First, be safe Irish, second, thanks bluez for reminding everyone how the best generation is the one we learned from, and finally stopper, leave it alone, Gordon had a great season and we Browns fans wish we could see the same this year or any year.
Been watching the World Wars and hope we never go down that path again. Those who served then and everyone in between deserve our respect and gratitude. The expression of which is so poorly reflected in the VA medical care right now it is criminal. I realize it is a very BIG problem, with numbers which should have been predictable, and accounted for but weren't, but with all the wringing of hands, still nothing concrete has happened. I feel like I am personally responsible, as a citizen who enjoys the benefits of the freedom they fought for, and am ashamed of my government for waxing poetic about the debt we owe our fighting men and women, and their families, but sit on their hands when action is required. May God bless our veterans & their families, and may we rise up as a nation and insist on honoring our promise as they honored thiers to us.
Irish just a little insight since my WR's dont have a chance..... 2010- Bowling Green 2011- No Seniors 2012- West Virginia, Northwestern and Notre Dame College(Div 2) 2013- Kentucky, Univ of Charleston(FCS) Right now I have a Jr that has offers from WV, Miami Fl, Pitt, Mich and Mich St Now, Im not saying its all coaching since these kids have gifted abilities, but keeping them on the narrow path, developing those skills that were given to them and having them perform at a high level during their 4 yrs at HS was a team/coaching effort. I know how much u like the Browns, but every QB misses open WR's just like every WR drops perfect passes from the QB....its part of the game.
Ravens, those 4 games I mentioned he was a factor throughout the whole game....he gave them the lead late in the 4Q vs Jax and NE....Minny and KC he played consistent the WHOLE game.....not that hes a stud, but I think Cameron would make defenses more worried than either Thomas or Mack since he can actually get the ball and make plays. All I am saying is his rec yds were very misleading and many of them came when the game was decided which doesnt mean a thing IMO.
