The negativity seems to be at an all time high in Brownstown, so that's why I'm staying away.....I'm still lurking though. Still watching. Still reading. Just choosing not to contribute much. Don't dare show optimism around Browns fans these days...

CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) - Cleveland Browns seventh round pick and 217 selection overall Armonty Bryant was arrested Friday in Oklahoma. The Ada News was the first to report on the story, http://bit.ly/10ez10j, and Nate Ulrich provided a update on the situation, http://bit.ly/11Ovkkp. Bryant faces a misdemeanor DUI charge and is scheduled to be arraigned at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bryant was arrested in October for selling $20 of marijuana twice to an undercover officer in an ECU parking lot and due to the transactions came within 2,000 feet of a school, he was charged with a felony. A Cleveland Browns spokesperson said the team is aware of the incident and are now collecting more information.

Character concerns were part of the reason Armonty Bryant fell to the seventh round of the draft.

And though he promised only days ago he had changed his ways, those concerns were proven valid.

According to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, the Browns defensive end was arrested for DUI in Oklahoma Friday, less than a week after he was drafted.

He was arrested in Ada, Okla., and according to the police report, the arresting officer had to perform the breath test 10 times because Bryant couldn?t or wouldn?t properly complete it. When he did it right, he blew a .098. After his arrest, he refused a blood test.

?We are aware of the incident and are now in the process of collecting more information,? Browns spokesman Neal Gulkis said in a statement. ?We will not have any further comment.?

Bryant was suspended three games last season at East Central (Okla.) University when he was arrested for twice selling $20 worth of marijuana to an undercover officer, both times in the college?s parking lot.

On April 27, he told Browns reporters he had learned from his previous trouble.

??Good people make mistakes? is something that I?ve always been told by my [college] coach,? Bryant said. ?I feel like it was just a stupid move on my part. I should have been more mature about the situation and be more focused on football, which is something I really want to do with my life.

?Now that I?ve gotten that second chance, I feel like I won?t let anyone down. I won?t let myself, the people around me or the Cleveland Browns down. I appreciate them for taking this chance on me.?

The Browns sent defensive line coach Joe Cullen (who knows about putting trouble, if not pants, behind him) to work out Bryant prior to the draft.

?Looking into his background with coach Cullen out there, as well as our scouting staff, we felt like [Bryant] is past the mistakes he has made and ready to move on,? Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said April 27.

    Apparently not.

As of right now, I'm pretty sure they are still the CLEVELAND Browns...and I believe the helmet remains the same. hows that?

I'm not going to defend Armonty, but he blew a .09.....That's like 2 beers for me. I'm sure it was more than that for a guy his size, but still not the crime of the century IMO. Maybe I'm too lenient, but when I was his age,I made plenty of those same stupid decisions....All we can hope is that he has learned something from his most recent misstep...That being said, he's an idiot. Looks like he's going to throw his golden ticket away. Just absurd given his situation. He's allready on a short leash due to his arrest last October. The odds were already stacked against him, and now he's made his journey even tougher....

I have a feeling if he had made better decisions in his life, he would have been picked higher in the draft....

Things I like about our draft....

    1. Mingo ; I like the pick. best way to improve the secondary is to get after the QB...I think he will.

    2. Gordon; don't care that new regime wasn't responsible. JG has all the tools to be a big time WR in this league.

    3. Bess; He will be the QB's best friend. Finally a guy that we can count on to keep the chains moving. Best slot WR in C-town since Brian Brennan....

    4. McFadden; looks like a solid player. watching his highlites, I can't help thinking of Frank Minniefield....Seems to do everything well. Makes up for his lack of size with smarts and determination....

    5. Turning 4th and 5th rd picks into better picks in next years draft...I really believe they are loading up for next year because they like the QB's that will be in 2014 draft....Might be the best decisions they could have ever made. We already know what Campbell is, so if Weeden flops, at least we will have some commodities to move up in what should be a much better QB class...

All in all, I see it as a productive draft....and I'll wait till next year to throw out a grade.

I think most of you guys know that I was high on the honey badger. (pun intended).....But honestly, it was for the wrong reasons. I just wanted the Browns in the headlines....I think he is an awesome talent, especially as a returner, but I must admit, it probably would have been a disaster for Cleveland....The more I watch Leon McFadden, the more I like him. The fact that he was also an academic star, only reassures me that the Browns really did their homework on this kid, and I think he will be just fine...We've had good luck in the past on these San Diego State guys. If his career is as successful as Brian Sipe or Webster Slaughter, then I'm sure all Browns fans will be pleased....

As perhaps the youngest team in the NFL, these Cleveland Browns compete and they play hard. Pat Shurmur was predictably a complete train wreck last year, and it makes it very difficult to accurately guage exactly where the Browns stand. Most just look at the record and say, "same old Browns". It's not fair, but such is life. That's what ya get when you lose with the consistency that the Browns have since the re-emergence in 1999... We all know that this is a QB driven league and ours was a mess. But it's far too early to bail on him. Tough to find success in a team sport when surrounded by so much dysfunction, particularly from the higher ups. It's sink or swim time now for our soon to be 30 year old- 2nd year QB, and everybody (including him) knows it....Marked improvement MUST be exhibited in year 2, or the baseball playing gunslinger from Okie State will be history, and yet another fail for this snakebitten franchise in their efforts to find a "franchise" QB.....

Always the optimist, I think Rob Chudzinski and Norv Turner might be exactly what Brandon Weeden needs. Aggressive, up-tempo, vertical passing game. There will be no more excuses. Solid O-line in place. Big bruising RB ready to go. And what looks to be a real good young WR group in place....If that doesn't do it, well maybe he can play basketball, cuz patience is runnin thin. I'm certain we'll be gunnin for Teddy Bridgewater or Johnny football or whomever in next years draft.....

i am hoping that Weeds plays well enough that we can draft at another position ..how is that for being positive ?

with that said Jim Bob will have had his ownership taken from him and somebody else will own the Browns ...sorry thems just the facts unless he beats this somehow .

how can you trust a guy who screwed over his customers ?

i read where the season ticket sales are going very very slow .thats not a good sign and its all because of our Hillbilly mafia owner .

Nobody knows whats going to happen with Haslem.....It's all speculation at this point. It's a side of things that I'm going to stay away from and just let it sort itself out....Ticket sales? All they have to do is win. It really is that simple. Besides, even when they sell out, it seems only about 70% of the seats are full....My guess is that "worse case" for Jimmy H, is that he will have to cede the team to another family member like DeBartolo did with the Niners. Of course that's just pure speculation on my part....Either way, most likely this thing will drag on for years, and I'm not going to bitch and moan about it....Even with the feds crawling up his ass, Haslem seems more interested in the Browns than Randy Lerner ever did.....

  16. I'm really excited about the throw down field offense of Turner. I heard the other day on the radio that he likes the shot gun. I think that would be in Weeden's favor. Horton's defense will attack. I like those attacking type defenses. With Kruger on one end and Sheard and Mingo on the other that should be fun to watch. Pressure on the QB. Jordan, Miliner and Mingo were my top 3 picks in our spot during the draft. 2 rushing OLB and a good CB. Defense wins championships they say. I'm a little concerned about our guards but I like the tackles and Mack. We added depth on defense. Keep them fresh. I like that also. Bees is a legit #3 WR. Rome wasn't built in a day they say. It should be entertaining. Turner and Horton are capable coor. I finally feel we are heading in the right direction.

Former Cleveland Browns general manager has landed on his feet with the Denver Broncos.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Heckert will be assuming the role of director of pro personnel vacated by the departure of Keith Kidd.

Kidd did not have his contract renewed by the Broncos following the completion of the NFL Draft.

Heckert previously served as general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles from 2006-2009 before being hired in the same role by the Browns in 2010. Despite being general manager of the Eagles, Andy Reid still had final say over personnel decisions. The move to Cleveland was Heckert?s first opportunity to call the shots himself.

Heckert was relieved of his duties with the Browns at the end of last season. Kidd had served the last four seasons as the Broncos director of pro personnel following head coach Josh McDaniels over from the New England Patriots in 2009.

With Pluto's hardly surprising revelation that Banner knew he was CEO and Lombardi knew during the season that he would be "Player Personnel Director or GM or enter meaningless title here" despite being told countless times by Jimmy that absolutely no decision had been made on either hire should Brownsfans feel like the customers that Haslam's other enterprise targeted because they weren't "sophisticated" enough to deserve or demand an honest answer? Or was Haslam simply playing the Rooney Rule game that the NFL has mandated?

Here's the quote from the Pluto piece. The link to the entire article is above.

A little history lesson. Joe Banner knew he was the team's CEO from training camp. General Manager Mike Lombardi knew he'd be coming to the Browns during the season. These guys had more time to prepare for the 2013 draft than former GMs Phil Savage (hired in 2005) or Heckert (2010) when they had their first Cleveland drafts. Both joined the team after the season.

First let me say I get the Rooney Rule. I personally think that mandating who businesses must interview is a sham and for every Mike Tomlin who's announced as a beneficiary of the rule and who supposedly got the pittsburgh gig because of how shockingly well he interviewed I can create a list 10-20x as long of candidates who were only interviewed because of their race and who had as much chance of getting the applied for job as U or I did.

That particular debate is not the genesis of my post. My question is if Banner and Lombardi were all but assigned secretaries while Haslam publicly denied numerous times that those decisions were even close to being made is this the way Haslam is going to deal with his fanbase longterm? Lie directly and repeatedly to the customers? As a business owner I know full well that U can't always tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth to all questions re: every business decision but I also know it's business suicide to repeatedly tell them untruths. And while sports teams are not subject to all the rules of business and brand loyalty is maintained thru circumstances that would crush other companies I also know that there has to be some, even if it's in small doses, of trust built between said team and the fans that support it. There does seem to be an emerging pattern where Haslam and his direct hires go out of their to mislead their customers and in this particular instance the NFL to circumvent the Rooney Rule. The Forum is littered with examples dating back to the Aug 3rd announcement that Haslam was buying the team. On several occasions the truth would have been a much easier sell than the lie and yet Haslam or Banner or Lombardi or Browns media speaking on their behalf simply didn't want to be honest.

Are we really gonna give them their rebate? Absolutely. Hell No. We'll do what we want. What the hell are they going to do about it? Buy gas somewhere else?

Reports are that Banner is the lead candidate for the job, can U confirm? Absolutely not. Those decisions have not been made and are too early for me to even discuss. Of course he's got the job. Hell, the NFL paired us up in May. We'll do what we want. What the hell are they gonna do? Are they gonna root for the other Cleveland Browns team?

Multiple sources suggest Lombardi is the target for the GM/PPD job. True? No. That decision will be made after the season when Banner and I can assess where the team is and what strategies we will use to move forward. Clearly Lombardi is on his way. I can't wait for the season to get over so I can get him here. I need somebody to bring me coffee. We'll do what we want. What are they gonna do about it?

The team didn't use all of their assets in capspace or draft picks. Is this season a write off year while the FO and coaching staff disect the roster? Absolutely not. We intend to improve in ways that will be obvious to the fans. Of course it's a write off year. We can't even fill out a roster without 3rd day rookie draft choices or guys who's mom's barely know they're on the team and we our depth for every position not named OLB or DT is shallower than a kiddie pool. That we're building for the longterm thing is the gift that keeps on giving.

I took Halam at his word. I wanted to believe what he was selling. I'm now not inclined to believe a word he says until he deed tells me otherwise. And if there are any exceptions I sure can't think of them at this moment his deeds rarely match his words, unless it's damn convenient.

He is adamantly sticking to his building over the long term. But that just so happens to stick $30 mil in his for future lawyer fund. And he sold the stadium naming rights which just so happened to line another of his pockets.

But if U consider the Browns fanbase a naked man on a cold night Haslam could have maintained his clothing budget over the long haul and given the man a hoodie or sweatpants or a blanket, but instead gave him a tanktop and a pair of gloves and told him to trust him the rest was coming. A tanktop and a pair of gloves are an upgrade over being naked but still leave the man with his ass hanging out. And promises from somebody that rarely tells the truth don't keep anybody warm at night.
