Browns owner Jimmy Haslam didn?t give the order to draft Johnny Manziel. Unless he did. Despite an insistence from G.M. Ray Farmer that Haslam ?at no point demanded, requested, tried to influence the process in any way,? quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains said Thursday that, after Manziel sent Loggains a ?come and get me? text, Haslam issued the directive. ?As soon as that happened, Mr. Haslam said, ?Pull the trigger. We?re trading up to go get this guy,?? Loggains told Bo Mattingly of ESPN Arkansas, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Loggains explained that the text from Manziel said, ??I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to be there. I want to wreck this league together.?? It?s not a surprise. At all. Haslam wants to run the show without leaving obvious fingerprints, since he knows he?s not really qualified to run the show. So he?ll run the show without carrying the title of G.M. and if/when it all falls apart he can hire a new G.M. and continue to run the show. In other words, Haslam is doing what Jerry Jones should have been doing since 1989.
What that interview told me was that this regime was all on the same page that they wanted Johnny Manziel. It sounded to me like Loggains was REALLY pushing for him, otherwise he wouldn't have shared the texts...All Haslem did was basically say, You want him, I want him, lets not wait for someone else to take him ahead of us, let's go get him. He pushed the pile...
I think Dowell Loggains is in deep chit right now. lol! I mean, in his little radio interview, he completely undermined everything that the Browns brass has been trying to get us to believe...It's comical. For a week the Browns have been telling everybody that Haslam had NOTHING to do with the selection of Manziel. Then Loggains "spills the beans" on a live radio interview, that Haslam had everything to do with the decision...Then, as the organization (and i use the term loosely) was trying to tell the world that Johnny Football is our back-up, Loggains is on radio saying, "hell yeah we think this kid can come in a start right away"..lmao! OIC
In spite of Cleveland's "awkwardness" in the natonal spotlight, I still think they got the right guy....At the end of the day, that is all that truly matters....These little trivial things will not matter in the long run, but it does give the nation yet another opportunity to chuckle at the Browns...
Hmm, I guess we are just hearing it a different way... I don't think ANYONE has said they don't think he could come in and start right away...What I interpreted was, we have a starting QB in Brian Hoyer, he is the starter until Manziel shows he has surpassed him. I don't think for a minute anyone in that room with a deciding vote felt he wasn't an immediate starter quality or they wouldn't have traded up for him in the first round. Those are two separate issues. Being capable, and actually passing the current starter... I think I explained my feelings on the Haslam involvement in the trade. I didn't hear Loggains say, Haslem made a decision to move up and get Johnny...It sounded like everyone was in the mindset that Johnny was the #1 player on their board and Haslem made the decision not to lose him.
I just heard here at work that worthless Little hands got cut. What took them so long? I've seen little kids in flag football with better hands. Besides rip Lerner off what did H & H really do here? Man I wish someone could pay me $35 million to screw up their football team. Little Hands be gone.
The Browns brought in a pair of veteran receivers this week, but they?re reportedly closing it out by cutting a different one. PFT has learned that the Browns are parting ways with Greg Little. The move leaves the newly signed Miles Austin and Earl Bennett to go with Andrew Hawkins, Nate Burleson and Travis Benjamin at wideout with Josh Gordon facing a suspension. Little was a second-round pick of the team in 2011 and has started 41-of-48 regular season games since joining the team, but he seemed to steadily fall out of favor last season on his way to 41 catches for 465 yards and two touchdowns. Drops have been an issue for Little over the years and, despite the starting role, he never developed into the receiver the Browns were hoping to get when they drafted him. There were reports that last year?s Browns regime was planning to proceed without Little before the Browns decided to proceed without them. He clearly didn?t make much in the way of a positive impression on the new decision makers either if they were willing to wash their hands of Little even with Gordon likely out of the picture. Little may get another look this summer, but getting cut from this receiver group isn?t the best omen for a long NFL career. see ya hands of brick
all I got to say is I hope Jimmy H doesent turn into a meddlesome SOB like Sider or Jones . glad you guys like the Manziel pick . its no secret I didn't want him or the circus that follows him . I could learn to like him if he pans out . there is no honeymoon as far as I am concerened . I smell disaster
Sure does! Man... I remember when we drafted Weeden. There was one guy who kept saying it was a colossal, soul-cleaving mistake. Well, two if you count Jim Brown. Then there were the rest of the fans on these boards touting his "maturity" and "cannon arm" and Tecmo Bowl numbers in an air raid offense. Jeeze... Weeden was going to take the Browns straight to the Playoffs. These, of course, being the same folks who hate Manziel. Go figure.
There may have a couple who thought Weeden was a messiah . . . most thought it was a wasted 1st round pick. Note: Time for another trip down memory lane . . . QUINN TO WIN ! ! ! *ROFL*
 I didn't want him drafted, and was upset when the pick came in, but I also stayed up all night watching film and supported him within 24 hours after the pick...I wanted it to work out in the worst way and found excuses why it would. I will admit it...I was on the wrong side of that fence.
I hope I am on the wrong side of the little Johnny fence . no secret I didn't want him anywhere near Cleveland . now that he is there I hope all the hype comes true . can he stay in the pocket all 5- 11 of him and" see" to make his reads without running out of a good pocket like a idiot in the backyard ? Time will tell .
