Alright, driving into work this morning thinking about the draft. Lym your right. Sipe just walked through the door. I like the Gilbert pick, I like the Johnny Football pick. Today I'll be money signing it all day. My brother cried. I'm not going to lie. I got misty eyed. Maybe it was the Jack n Cokes. We traded Richardson for Johnny Football. SUCKERS Where can I get my #2 jersey? Browns are the talk of the draft. Man, is this happening? Now if we could land Lee or Mathews here in the 2nd. In Farmer we trust. And for the 1st time this year. Money signs and go Browns.
*DRINK* GOAT, the Rams are having a brilliant draft so far...trenches brother...no better way to fix an ailing franchise, when you have weapons in place. A healthy Bradford throwing to Austin and handing off to Stacy will be a little different with Robinson blocking in front of them. LOVE Donald. I didn't study the defensive linemen till late in the process..kid is a monster. The Rams and Browns improved alot last night and that was only the first round. *YAHOO*
Then trade up from #71 and get Borland and call it a day... Gilbert, Manziel, Lee and Borland is a dream scenario that needs no other pieces needed to make this offseason a huge success... Wow...come on... Texans - QB, dare I say Derek Carr? Can second Carr be the charm Redskins - OL, maybe a Su'a-Filo? BROWNS - There are actually quite a few WRs that would help this team, but I want Lee..
Copy/Pasted from where I thought we were posting draft stuff . . . I know most of you are hot to trot about going WR with #35 and I can see that logic. Marqise Lee (USC) or Allen Robinson (Penn St) are very tempting. However, IMHO, we have two other glaring needs that trump the WR2 need. Guard and ILB. Available Guards; o Xavier Su'a-Filo, UCLA. Projected to 1st round o David Yankey, Stanford, Projected to 1st-2nd round o Gabe Jackson, Miss State, Projected to 2nd round. Available ILB; o Chris Borland, Wisconsin, Projected to 2nd-3rd round. o Yawin Smallwood, Connecticut, Projected to 3rd round. o Shayne Skov, Stanford, Projected to 3rd-4th round. BPA (at a position of need) would suggest Su'a-Filo at pick #35. Comments ???
I'm with you there Lym stick to the board and take the BPA. I'd like to see them snag Xavier Su'a-Filo, UCLA as well. I'm a tad concerned about Lee's durability he had injury issues that lingered through last season.
I should note that I haven't been tracking D-Line prospects as they were not an apparent need. That said, BPA (in the true sense) may be a D-Lineman. I just can't justify spending a draft pick on one until the 5th, 6th or 7th round.
If that is the case Lym and the opportunity presented itself I could easily see Farmer trading back to and picking up more picks. He made it obvious that he is not afraid to move around. I've also heard from a few others that they would like to see Carlos Hyde as the next selection. *SCRATCH*
If we had ONE proven ZBS guard on this team . . . I could see Carlos. But we don't so Carlos would be (IMO) a luxury pick here that we simply cannot afford.
No complaints from on the draft. Would've liked the a WR at #4. But we got the top rated CB and a #1 for next year. And got a QB that SAS and quite a few analysts had us pegged taking at #4. I like what Farmer and boys have done so far. As for WR's, I can get over not having Watkins of Evans and the draft is fairly deep at the position. I'm sure we can find someone to replace Little in the next few rounds. I'd love to see us get Su'a-filo with our next pick. Let the Farmer Express keep steaming ahead full throttle.
Re: Farmer trading up again . . . Remember we still have 5 picks AFTER 2-35 PLUS two more somewhat expendable picks from 2015. That's a ton of ammo should Farmer see the need to get back into the 2nd round (after he snags Su'a-Filo *DANCE* ) for a ILB/WR/RB/OT . . . That's the beauty of this draft so far. I believe that NO ONE outside of Berea has a clue what to expect out of Farmer. edit: Before anyone goes nuts . . . I'm not suggesting using Buffalo's 2015 1st to trade up into the 2nd this year. I only mentioned it because it is there.
BPP, I agree. Great 1st round for both the Browns and the Rams. What an unbelievable D-line they are building in St. Louis....It's like the return of "The Fearsome Foursome"...Great job by the Rams. Can't wait to see what comes our way tonight. Love the way Ray Farmer is attacking and manipulating this draft board....I think likely candidates for #35 are Lee, Bitonio, Su'a-Filo, Hyde, Koundjio, Lattimer, Robinson....but we'll see. Maybe RF has more surprises in store...
Before the draft started, Browns coach Mike Pettine said it would be difficult for anyone in the draft class to beat out Brian Hoyer for the starting quarterback job. That didn?t stop the Browns from ending a Thursday night spent hopping around the draft board with a trade up to secure the rights to Johnny Manziel and the frenzied reaction to that selection wasn?t because people were excited about him coming in as a backup. Pettine acknowledged Manziel?s high ?it factor,? but said that nothing had changed in terms of the route to the starting role. ?Whether he was taken at four, or going at 22, it will be a competition and I meant that when I said it,? said Pettine, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. ?I don?t think you can hand jobs to people when they come in. It?s a situation where despite what?s around him and what?s following him ? and there will be that pressure to play him ? we?re in the business of evaluating the best quarterback for the Cleveland Browns to win football games and that?s who?s going to play, whether that?s Brian Hoyer or Johnny Manziel.? Hoyer has said several times this offseason that he is approaching the season with the mindset that he?ll be in the starting job and he was equally unshaken by the arrival of Manziel in Cleveland. The Browns texted Hoyer to give him a heads up about the forthcoming pick and Hoyer returned the message by telling the brass to ?bring him on.? The trend around the league of late has been to let young quarterbacks learn on the job, so we?ll see how things play out for the Browns now that they actually have multiple quarterbacks they?d feel comfortable starting. It might not be enough for fellow Browns quarterback Vince Young to call them a dream team, but it certainly looks like a step in the right direction.
we still need a G/ WR / ILB in no particular order .If Stanford G David Yankey is still there when we pick he is the man we need . we don't have a third anymore we wasted that to get Manziel who I still don't think can play on Sunday . he is going to have to prove it to me . Hoyer starts week 1 .
What?!?!?!? They didn't include Thigpen in that article. What a slap in the face for him. (Turn sarcasm font off)
Bluez, Manziel will have to prove it to all of us. How many QB's and prospective QB's-of-the-future have we gone through now?
the Manziel pick has Haslam written all over it . he stated that he was out to dinner and a homeless man told him to draft Manziel . IMHO Farmer wouldn't have traded up to get him if not for pressure from Meddlesome Jimmy H .
Manziel wouldn't have been my choice either, but a lot of people including the Browns FO rated him highly. They know better than any of us (or at least I pray to God they do). Gotta at least give Manziel a chance to see what he can do. Hoping and praying that we won't be looking for another QB next year.
Lym, I see your logic. Like Irish I would like to get Lee in the 2nd and either Skov/Borland today. As he said then call it a day. Look best available at position of need in 4th. RB, G maybe.
