Jaguars hire Anthony Campanile as defensive coordinator

New Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has hired his most important assistant.

The Jaguars have announced that Anthony Campanile is their new defensive coordinator. With Coen calling the offensive plays, Campanile will call the defense.

The 42-year-old Campanile spent last season as the Packers’ linebackers coach and run game coordinator and was linebackers coach for the Dolphins before that. He has also been on the coaching staffs at Michigan, Boston College and Rutgers.

Coming off a 4-13 season, the Jaguars need to make a major overhaul on both sides of the ball. Coen has made clear that his top priority is building an offense around Trevor Lawrence, and Campanile will get to work on building the Jaguars’ defense.

Jets hire Lions assistant Tanner Engstrand for their OC job

The Jets are hiring Lions pass game coordinator Tanner Engstrand for their offensive coordinator job, according to multiple reports.

Engstrand also drew interest from the Seahawks, Buccaneers and Patriots, but, with what seemed like a formality, he is following Aaron Glenn from Detroit to New York.

The Lions hired former Stanford coach David Shaw on Thursday to replace Engstrand as the passing game coordinator.

Detroit has lost seven coaches since the season ended. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Glenn, Engstrand, defensive line coach Terrell Williams, assistant quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett, tight ends coach Steve Heiden and wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El.

Engstrand served as the Lions’ tight ends coach and pass game coordinator the past two seasons after three seasons as an offensive assistant with the team. He was an offensive analyst for Jim Harbaugh at the University of Michigan in 2018.

They certainly have fresh 'new blood' running the show in New York for the Jets. Remains to be seen what Aaron 'not new blood' Rodgers does and if Woody gets in the way.

 

Cowboys to hire Klayton Adams as their offensive coordinator

The Cowboys have found their new offensive coordinator.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that they will hire Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams. The Cowboys promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach to create the vacancy.

Adams spent the last two seasons on Jonathan Gannon’s staff with the Cardinals. He previously served as the tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach for the Colts and has previous coordinator experience at the University of Colorado.

Schottenheimer will call the team’s offensive plays, so that will not be part of Adams’s responsibilities with the team. The Cowboys have talked about wanting to focus on the run game and Adams’s offensive line background likely appealed to them on that front.

Buccaneers to promote Josh Grizzard to offensive coordinator

The Buccaneers are keeping things in-house for their next offensive coordinator.

Tampa Bay is promoting passing game coordinator Josh Grizzard to the position, according to a report from NFL Media.

Grizzard, 34, joined the Bucs last offseason after spending 2017-2023 with the Dolphins, working as a quality control coach and receivers coach for the franchise.

He came to Tampa Bay with former offensive coordinator Liam Coen a year ago, helping the club finish No. 3 in total yards and No. 4 in points. The team’s offense was No. 3 with 4,257 passing yards and No. 2 with 41 passing touchdowns.

Promoting Grizzard will keep some continuity on the staff after another offensive coordinator departed the franchise after just one year. Tampa Bay lost Dave Canales after the 2023 season as he was hired to coach the Panthers. Now, Coen has departed the franchise to coach the Jaguars.
