Jaguars interviewing Rich Bisaccia for head coach

The Raiders didn’t keep Rich Bisaccia after he led them to the playoffs as their interim head coach, but the Jaguars are showing interest.

Bisaccia is interviewing today for the Jaguars’ head-coaching job, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Jaguars’ coaching search has been all over the map. There were reports that they were on the verge of hiring Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, but now they do not appear to be close to hiring anyone.

The 61-year-old Bisaccia was a well-respected special teams coach before he took over for Jon Gruden in Las Vegas last season, and he’ll surely have options as a special teams coach if he is interested. But he’d obviously prefer to get another chance at being a head coach, and the Jaguars will hear his case today.

FWIW, there's only one year left on Carr's deal. He's scheduled to hit free agency in 2023....

    Ego

He thinks he can be the next Belichick and where he goes is less important than getting the chance. He was probably told in 2018 that if he stayed with the Patriots, Bill would be stepping down soon and they would promote within. Here we are 4 seasons later and it doesn't look like Bill is as close as Brady is to retiring. If you look at the situations of the available jobs, the Raiders are willing to take a 2 for deal from the Patriots. That probably gives McDaniel another level of comfort believing they can be the western version of the Patriots.

Then you have to take into account, his options may have been limited based on his past.

The Raiders are a team over the past 3 seasons with Carr that have gone 7-9, 8-8, 10-7. They are an upcoming team.

Carr, as much as you may not like him, has 8 years of starting experience. He rarely gets hurt.

Some of the other situations are worse off than having Carr and there isn't much available to improve those situations.

I would take $19.9M Carr over Saints/Hill, Dolphins/Tagovailoa, Vikings/$45MCousins then free agency, Texans/???Circus at QB that no GMor coach really wants to deal with, especially year one.

If I were someone looking to make a move this year, the Raiders are as good as any left to make that move, imho.

Agreed. For all the turmoil they went through this past season with, Ruggs and Gruden and Mayock, they held it together pretty well. Raiders came about as close as any team to derailing Cincinnati in the playoffs. They have some nice pieces to work with, and now that Mayock is gone they can quit taking longshot head scratchers in the first round.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rappaport, the Vikings are down to 3 finalists for HC job. 49ers DC, DeMeco Ryans - Rams OC , Kevin O'Connell - Rams DC, Raheem Morris.

So, does that mean Jim Harbaugh's interview didn't go very well this weekend?

  7. TopDawg Legend

They haven't actually interviewed him yet. The Vikes evidently reached out to guage Harnaugh's interest over the weekend, and he conveyed genuine interest in the job. An interview is now planned. Stay tuned. Ian might have jumped the gun on the 3 finalists.

Mark Davis announces hiring of Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler

Raiders owner Mark Davis opened a Monday press conference by thanking interim head coach Rich Bisaccia and the rest of the team for their hard work in getting the team to the playoffs this season, but quickly pivoted to officially turning the page to the organization’s next chapter.

Davis confirmed reports from the weekend that the team would hire Josh McDaniels as their new head coach. The longtime Patriots offensive coordinator previously coached the Broncos and had an agreement to take over the Colts in 2018, but backed out after the Patriots lost the Super Bowl to the Eagles.

Davis also announced the hiring of Dave Ziegler as the team’s new General Manager. Ziegler replaces Mike Mayock, who was fired after the playoff loss to the Bengals in the Wild Card round.

Ziegler was most recently the director of player personnel for the Patriots, so he and McDaniels make up a package deal trying to come up with the formula that’s eluded many others who have left New England for other clubs.

Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell and 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans are still the front runners, it seems, but Harbaugh is still a wild card. O'Connell abd DeMeco will have their second interviews this week and Pellisero and others say it wouldnt be surprising if Harbaugh gets a meeting again also.

Vikings are being real real careful and acting a bit cautious and gun-shy, but thats cool by me... I want the right guy also, lol.

DeMeco Ryans Declines Second Interview With Vikings

  11. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings will host New York Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham for a second interview on Tuesday for their head coaching vacancy, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Graham first met with the Vikings on Saturday and is one of four people lined up for secondary interviews with the team. Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell and defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, and University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh are the other candidates getting second interviews with the team.

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans removed his name from consideration for the job on Monday.

Graham has spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Giants. He spent one year with Brian Flores as the defensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins in 2019.

New Giants head coach Brian Daboll expressed his desire to keep Graham on his coaching staff should he not get the job in Minnesota.

Vikings will interview Jim Harbaugh in person on Wednesday

Michigan Jim Harbaugh continues to inch toward a potential return to the NFL.

The Vikings will bring the Wolverines coach to Minnesota on Wednesday for a sit-down, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media.

The Vikings interviewed Harbaugh by Zoom on Saturday. Despite mixed signals as to whether the process would continue, continue it will.

The team appears to be concerned about Harbaugh’s time with the 49ers. Despite a 44-19-1 regular-season record, three playoff appearances, and a Super Bowl berth, Harbaugh was fired after four seasons. (The team called it a mutual parting; Harbaugh disagreed with the characterization.) After moving on from the oft-cantankerous Mike Zimmer, the Vikings are inclined to avoid another coach who may opt for motivation based on concepts such as fear and criticism.

Plenty of successful coaches possess that edge, including the likes of Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells to name only two. Harbaugh’s brother, John, has a fire that burns hot, just below the surface and sometimes out in the open (especially when the lights go out during the Super Bowl). The Ravens, realizing the value that John Harbaugh brings to the football team, has coexisted with him since 2008.

Jim Harbaugh has coached his alma mater for seven seasons. By all appearances, they’d like to keep him, despite whatever negativity folks from San Francisco may be spreading about him. Obviously, people like 49ers CEO Jed York don’t want to see Harbaugh return to the NFL and thrive. If York thought Harbaugh was a disaster waiting to happen, York would either say nothing, or he’d provide a glowing endorsement.

Regardless of what anyone else may or may not be saying about Harbaugh (and we don’t know whether York or anyone else is providing a negative assessment to the Vikings or anyone else about Harbaugh), the Vikings have to make their own decision. Is the calculated risk of hiring a coach who may rub some folks the wrong way worth the reward of a trophy the franchise and the community have been chasing since 1966?

Report: Jim Harbaugh plans to become next coach of the Vikings

It’s never over until it’s over. But it’s looking like it could be over.

Via Chris Balas ot TheWolverine.com, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh heads to Minnesota for a Wednesday interview that will be a precursor to Harbaugh becoming the team’s next head coach.

Per Balas, multiple sources claim the Wednesday interview is a formality. Which makes sense, given that the interview is happening on national signing day.

Harbaugh, per the report, wasn’t in his office on Tuesday. He didn’t address the team, but he reportedly said some “goodbyes” and “thank yous” on Monday.

As we’ve seen before, these things aren’t done until they’re done. But it’s clear that Harbaugh wants to return to the NFL. And it’s clear that the Vikings regard him as a serious candidate, with new G.M. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah very familiar with Harbaugh based on their two years together in San Francisco.

Unlike rising coordinators who may or may not prove they can win at the next level, Harbaugh has been a winner in the NFL, going 44-19-1 in his four years with the 49ers. In his first season, he took a 6-10 team to the brink of the Super Bowl, without the benefit of an offseason program.
