That's the worst part. The Bears look like there's solid odds they'll end up with the #1 and #2 overall picks. It's just a fucking shame we know it won't matter.

We could have the first 10 picks and it wouldn’t matter.

Nothing changes until the old bitch dies.

It would be poetic (and apropos for this shit franchise) if Caleb Williams pulls an Eli and tells the bears even if they take him he wont play for them.

    Broncos lost by 50 yesterday.

They are 2.5 point favorites on the road playing the Bears next Sunday.

This right there is an indictment of Ryan fucking Poles and this entire motherfucking coaching staff, and all the motherfuckers that put them in place.

I said there is nothing left to say, and I guess that's wrong with a night to think on it.

    1. The Bears are a straight up joke, laughing stock of the league. They were the worst team in football last year and did not get this kind of grief. I don't even think Virginia dying fixes this, it's not like George is handcuffed by her right now. The only thing would be if they decide to sell.
    2. It is pretty incredible how bad this team is. It was "only" 41-0 because the Chiefs got a slight scare with Mahomes and decided to go to garbage time midway through the third. I figured they might drop 50, but I did think the Bears would at least score *some* points. The defense is the worst in the league, and the offense is running right behind.
    3. The only reason I haven't removed the might is because there is some talent on this team, and Poles didn't select Fields. That said his approach this offseason beggars belief, almost as bad as Pace going "all in" on Mack when the Bears were still pretty far away.
    4. You know why the Broncos are favored after giving up 70? Because they have at least scored points, losing to the Raiders by 1, and the Deadskins by 2 (which putting up 33). They have Sean Payton, who will scheme up plenty against the Bears D. If you think the embarrassments are over, I got news for you.
    5. Reddit has legit homers saying that the Lions went 1-6 and bounced back and almost made the playoffs! As though those two situations are at all similar. Other meatballs all going on about supporting the team, or blaming everyone but Justin, etc. I go over to CCS expecting the same kind of stupid, and got completely different stupid.
    6. Since Williams resigned, and Getsy AND Eberflus need to go, can you even legitimately fire them? Who do you get to field the team for the rest of the year. What does that do to the development of the "talent" we have on the roster?
    7. I know I said last year or the year before I would cheer for the Seahawks as a second team, and I have yet to watch even one game. I was seeing highlights during the commercials of this weeks game, and Geno fucking Smith of all people looks decent, they can run well. They're not even a good team, I hate Pete Carroll, but if I want to watch actual football this year I feel like I may have no choice. Because whatever product the Bears are putting out is not football.
    8. Looking ahead at the schedule, we have some of the worst teams in the league on that schedule, so we'll get to see exactly how bad this team is. I don't think they go winless, they will pull out some meaningless wins, I mean we have the winless Vikings, Broncos AND Panthers, then you've also got the Cards, Saints, Raiders, Deadskins, Chargers? All of those teams have looked bad, they will sneak a win or two out of there at some point, right? They lucked into the 1st overall last year with Lovie's assistance.

The worst part about all of this is how bleak it looks right now. A turnaround in the NFL doesn't NEED to take multiple years. The problem is the building blocks here are all made of sand, if we evaluate the players we have even in a new scheme, you have a lot of missing pieces. Kevin Warren does look like he was hired to build a stadium, that now that's looking rough. At this rate though, the 2024 Bears are going to be bad, and if we keep Eberflus or if Poles does suck (which I strongly suspect)? We're looking at 2025.

I want to be wrong, but I have zero faith in all of these guys to turn it around:
    1. Eberflus and his scheme
    2. Getsy and his scheme
    3. Fields
    4. Most of the offensive and defensive lines
    5. Claypool

I mean fuck, we get a handful of throws from Fields that are on the money, and Claypool and Moore drop them! Top to bottom this team is a failure, and the only real question is when does the team give up at this point.

I've heard Meatballs put this all on Justin's head, and calling for the rookie Bagent to replace him as if he is the second coming of Jesus Christ and all will be well.
Suspect??? SUSPECT??? The dude had the Kings Ransom going into this offseason the #1 overall pick and the most cap space of any other team, and this is what we get? Are you kidding me? You suspect???
#28 in the league on offense is rather impressive, and I expected worse, but last in the league on defense, and most of his focus was on that side of the ball. God fucking help us if Poles is still here next year.

It's been bleak for me since 2014, outside a flukey 2018 when this team fooled me for 5 minutes into thinking they were a Super Bowl contender. Otherwise I've never had hope that we were a season or even a few key pieces away from being a contender. All we've been doing for the last decade is toggling between the nine layers of hell and it is likely that 2023 will be closer to the 9th layer than the first.

I really don't know how Georgie lives with himself if he has any pride in the team or himself. The money probably makes it easier. I will never forget him saying on Waddle and Silvy that the McCaskey family was "uniquely qualified" to lead the Bears organization going forward. He really believes that. This was post-2021 season. That one statement did more to destroy any hope I could ever have than anything else he's said or done. I've said it before, I met him back in the mid-2000s when he was working the ticket office and he couldn't have been nicer to my dad and I in getting us great accessible seats for the game we went to. He personally called my parents home to sort everything out, then even at the game followed up with us to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. But if there's anyone who's deluded and in over his head, it's not Flus or Getsy or even Trestman back in the day, it's Georgie. Fuck him.

Its ugly, multi-system organizational failure from the new pres of ops, to the GM, to the HC/DC, to the OC, to the QB. What do any of these guys do well? It's clear that the bears in these 3 games have shown on offense that they were trying to sell us Getsy adjusting his offense to his QB's strengths the entire offseason, but instead we see Justin constantly confused and holding the ball too damn long because he doesn't know how to get rid of it because he's not Erin, so obviously he's not/expecting Justin to be his system's guy or he's failing spectacularly.

13 straight losses. Someone's getting this fired if this shit continues. I don't want to hear what tree the next coach comes from. I want to know if he can tailor the scheme to his talent instead of expect someone to be Erin when he's had the luxury of coaching Erin, but Justin isn't Erin. Unless Kyle Shanahan/McVay is coming, I don't want to hear about about either's scheme when you can't run it effectively.

I'll give Matt Eberflus this, he can cop out behind not getting a 3 tech when he needs one and the bears don't have anything close to resembling an effective one for his scheme. Also in his defense, although the talent sucks all over the place, they haven't given up on him--YET. That being said, what does this defense do well? The high priced off-ball linebackers look great tackling guys getting 5+ yards a play. That's all I got.

Getsy should be fired. This guy has wasted 3 games. 14 more to go? Do we really need to see this? He doesn't know how to get 11 guys to do anything well or be in sync and clearly got a job due to Erin having back to back MVP years.

Justin doesn't see the open guy when he's there and it's been one of the plays he actually got some time to throw the ball, and if he keeps serving up turd games like this, he'll be replaced. I won't be surprised if Poles/Getsy/Eberflus start chucking Justin under the bus. Because after week 1 I told myself to give him till mid-season, but after another bum ass performance, I'm not sure if I'm going to make it there. I'm not saying play Bagent, but add another need to an already talent-devoid team because it looks like you are going to have to draft/acquire a QB.

  13. vvarder Franchise Player Bears

Yeah, the Bagent calls are abundant as well, meatballs everywhere. I had an argument on Reddit with some dude doing exactly that, and when I asked him if he felt the coaches were doing a great job it was radio silence.

The problem I have is that this year it's too soon to tell if these young kids are all complete busts, especially with the positions the coaches are putting them in. Claypool was a HUGE mistake, but the trade down and getting Carolina's pick next year isn't looking to be the worst move at all. Brisker, Gordon, Wright, Roschon Johnson, Stevenson, Dexter, the jury is out on all of these guys. The FA pickups this year.....yeah, not much I can say to defend him at all, that said, FA is fools gold, overpaying always. Outside of Claypool, there's no big example of "this was a massive fuckup".

How many fucking decades have we been lamenting the square peg in a round hole approach that every GM and Coach has taken to this team since forever.

And are we going to torpedo Fields, keep Eberflus and draft Williams only for Eberflus to be shitcanned the next year when we bring in the offensive QB whisperer guru. HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO RIDE THIS MERRY GO FUCKING ROUND.

I'll give you they are still playing for him, which is something. But I'm not seeing the effort on the field that the "HITS" principal is supposed to impart. The guys played HARD for Lovie back in the day. These guys are not putting in that same effort, there are "loafs" all fucking day with this team. So playing for him, sure. Running through a brick wall for him, eh.

The thing that really gets me is how much arguing there is all over the place, is it Justin's fault, is it the coaches, is it Poles, is it the owners. It's FUCKING ALL OF THEM. It's splitting hairs to decide which turd is the shittiest.

At this point, with a franchise so incompetent, can they even take baby steps?

I'm not asking for Chiefs/Patriots in the 2000s/2010s level dominance, but how about we start with a President, GM, HC, and QB all on the same page all in the same system? President's and GMs picks, their guys. Not a QB from a previous GM but he's cheap and under contract when he's not the guy you wanted and that's clear from how you've ass fucked your own playcalling for the 1st 3 games and many last year. Like failing with this would sadly be a step in the right direction, even though they're still lost in the proverbial QB wilderness like most of the NFL is. Not a HC who was a top 3 finalist for the Job before the GM even got hired by Georgie.

If the bears win less than 3-4 games, Flus is gone is my bet and Poles will have a new HC and QB, with Justin either being trade fodder or dead man walking in year 4 without a 5th year option. If the team flat out quits on Flus then he's toast. Week 1-3 is one thing, but when they're still sucking week 9 or 10? We'll see there. As for the Lovie comparison, it's true, but Lovie had the talent. He had the 3 tech and the pass rusher AND a 1-2 punch at Mike and Will along with two DBs nobody talked about who could put up stats and cover great WRs at that period in Tim Jennings/Tillman. Flus has nice rookie DBs, an expensive (the most expensive?) off-ball LB starters in his 4-2-5, and fuck all on the DL--like literally purge the entire DEs and DTs on the roster now and start over because they all fucking suck, except Andrew Billings against the run--but even then, meh.

I'm all for torpedoing Fields if it means Poles and whomever the HC/OC is get their guy. Unless that guy is Maye from UNC. I do not want to touch that kid (or any QB from NC) with a 39 1/2 foot pole. Caleb Williams, Quinn Ewers, or JJ McCarthy. If you're doing the 2nd/3rd round QB thing then Michael Penix Jr.

Nah pat, we don't pick up QBs in the 3rd round, that's where we'll find our new starting left tackle. This will be a step up from the current 5th rounder.

NFL Week 4 Power Rankings: Surging Dolphins crack top 5 while other contenders fall after stunning upsets

I was waiting for it, and there it is, dead last. I was listening to their podcast a week ago, and one of them said, "I have an issue with the bottom of the list, how are the Bears not dead last" - after the Chiefs loss, they are.

But you see the Broncos above them by 3 spots. Of the games remaining on the schedule, this is the most winnable. It would probably have implications for the first overall pick. I can see the Bears winning this one, but I can see them losing too. Damned if I'm not watching another week of Chicago Bears fucking football this year. Fuck me.

I normally wait a day to give more thoughts, but man, I just can't this time.

    1. Fields broke the record for consecutive passes completed at 16. 15, the former record, was held by Shane Matthews. Your Chicago Bears boys.
    2. The Bears tied the records for largest comeback loss in franchise history.
    3. Watching the first half, I couldn't even get excited about it. Yeah, they looked good, but they looked good against a team that gave up 70 points the prior week. Kmet was so open I could have thrown him the ball.
    4. When I woke up and watched the end of the game, it's like a different team was on the field. Seems like one team made adjustments at the half, and another didn't. Wow, never seen that before.
    5. Still the laughing stock of the league: "The only thing worse than being a fan of an AFC North team is being a fan of the Bears, who tied a franchise record for futility by blowing a 21-point lead in a loss to the Broncos. "
    6. I have gone from apathy to outright hatred. I HATE this team. I'm watching at the end of the game, and I'm not holding out hope they can drive the field, I KNEW full fucking stop, that there was no way they pulled that off. The best we'd get was maybe a FG to tie it. And they lived right up to my expectation.
    7. This team is probably going to win a game at some point, they aren't going defeated. The question is what week that will be. It's going to be an upset of a team that's better than the Bears, which at this point, is EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE LEAGUE.
    8. Might as well keep Flus as the tank commander I guess. No one could do a better job steering us to our second chance at the #1 overall.
    9. The biggest question, if we have Poles picking #1 (and maybe #2), does he fuck it up? Not just there, but each later round too. I mean Stevenson when we could have had our Center?
    10. The Kmet sneak? That "flea flicker"? Stuff that worked but my god.
    11. CBS is in on firing Flus: NFL Week 4 overreactions and reality checks: Has the game passed Bill Belichick by? Are Dolphins paper tigers?

  19. blang84 M.V.P. Bears

I realize I'm trying to find a silver lining when literally none exists... but yes, Flus is the perfect guy to keep around for purposes of the tank.

When the Packers fired McCarthy it was literally immediately following an inexcusable loss at home to the worst team in the NFL, and he was fired as he came off of the field. Imagine that! A team doing the right thing when it needs to be done, not waiting around to make the call because that's what the Rooneys and Maras would do.

Right now I'm more worried he'd fuck up the coaching hire than the draft pick. Although Patg pointed out on another thread that he thinks Williams is basically Fields except he's shorter.

The whole point though is the coach and the system. Ev believes Fields would've turned out if he had the right system in place. He may be right. Initially, I was pretty salty that we missed on Mahomes but the more time passes I actually think Mahomes would've busted out in Chicago. He would have shown more promise than Trubisy but without the guidance of Reid he never would have taken the next step.

The upcoming offseason comes down to one thing and that's hiring the right (offensive!) coach. Doesn't mean who we pick at QB won't make a difference, but we could take all of the QBs in the draft in order and it won't matter if another Eberflus or Nagy is leading the way.
