Pffft, why do we need this loser when we can trade for another teams trash that comes in for one play and immediately fucks up the snap to shotgun.

I don't like seeing Jordan Love playing well, but the fact he had his 3 TD day and they still lost, awesome. And if you haven't seen his botched QB sneak attempt, that's pure gold. There's obviously a much higher chance of me seeing the Packers lose vs. the Bears win on any given week.

An Illinois kid who played at Minnesota at a position of need and fell relatively far in the draft? Nah, we'll take another CB instead.

Worst part is, I'm a big Miami fan. I have long believed that drafting Miami players is generally good practice, for Chicago. I don't mind that they drafted Stevenson, in isolation. But in context with a team with needs this pronounced, when legit starting-caliber OL are on the board, and then giving away draft capital to get a player at a position you already drafted high last year...

I was trying to be optimistic about Poles, initially, but this off-season and now two weeks into the season and it's clear I don't have any reason to be.

I'll watch it at some point today. The catharsis is helpful to me. I hope.

This video is so interesting. I didn't get to see the game but JT explains everything so well. The mistakes on the field seem to be spread out all over the team, and Fields has the lion-share of them.

So, I'm an hour in and it's really hurting. It's just complete incompetence all over.

For starters, it's exactly what we feared when Fields was drafted - the guy is so used to having to play hero ball, and so used to having no protection, that he has regressed as a passer. Fundamentally. Now he has DJ Moore to bail him out sometimes, but that's not making him a better QB. At Ohio St, his MO was to look for the deep ball - they had superior talent and ran deeper routes with a lot of separation. Now, not only does he not have the time to make these throws, but he's also having to play with more anticipation and take shorter throws (which he doesn't do). You can see the fear of the rush in his footwork, which is abysmal, and you can see his lack of processing in how erratically he moves through reads / passes up open throws, etc. It's rough. This team ruined any potential he had.

The playcalling / scheme is awful. It has some bright moments - some spots where you say, "That was a good call / clever", but those spots are so few and far between. And it speaks to the nature of this team, which is inconsistency, lack of detail and discipline, and ultimately a bad use of what little talent they may have. It starts with the coaching staff, and their incompetence is noticeable on every play, even if the playcall is good - because you have OL doing unimaginably stupid things, a QB that doesn't know where to go with the ball, etc. Just the way every play is approached has something that doesn't make sense to it, whether it's the way the play was drawn up or the way the players go about it.

And of course, the players reflect that. Just awful, disorganized, uncertain efforts pretty much all the time. No one knows what they're doing on a regular basis. It's embarrassing. I have no idea how anyone in the organization can watch this film and feel like they can speak positively about the team. How Poles can watch any of that and not make firings (which should be well within his power), I don't know.

We all knew that, when they drafted Kmet, he was a guy with a very limited ceiling who was relatively well-rounded and pro-ready for a team that needed someone at the position right away. It was fucking nonsense that the team was in that position in the first place, but we all saw the pick coming. And now the team is running him like he's an elite level talent, because they paid him that way, and he's just not getting it done. The simple stuff that he should be good at is also going away, I would guess because he's busy doing things in practice that he can't athletically pull off.

Claypool is still a piece of shit, and that trade never made any sense at all. I would so much rather he be Green Bay's problem than ours right now, but here we are. Fire Poles. Just because Claypool had some plays where he actually tried doesn't excuse all the times where he doesn't.

The OL is so disgustingly bad. It looks like a line full of castoffs and undesirables because it is.

I'll watch some more this evening. Gotta finish it out, at this point.

Just wondering how that worked out for you? 33 minutes was all I could stomach literally.
Well, he can resign, and that would be a start, but that would also be an indictment of himself as an evaluator. He's the guy that assembled this crap team that can't execute with a Junior Varsity level coaching staff.
This fucking team, what did we as fans do to deserve this shit year after year?

Heh, I started last night but only made it 30 mins myself, I'll watch more tonight / tomorrow maybe.

I was listening to Tom Waddle, and he was excusing the coaching too much, saying that it was all execution. While in some cases this is true, because likely those plays aren't, can't, be drawn up how they are run, coaching is a huge problem. Reminds me of when they put Cam Newton in the pocket that one year he absolutely sucked balls.

I remember in the game being pissed about Kmet's looking down to toe tap on the side line, rather than pull the ball in and protect it, so he allows the DB to blow it. What I didn't see during the game was the one blocking assignment where he does an end around Wright, allowing the rusher basically uncontested to the QB. Shockingly bad.

Watching JT is cathartic to me too, because he's seeing what we're seeing, and then he's bringing play insights I don't have on top of it, and he's frankly getting as pissed off as I am. I know in previous years he didn't do every game, but they sure as hell weren't this long. Lots to analyze I guess.

Okay, I finished it up. And yes, Tuna, it did feel like self-flagellation by the end. It was just more of what we knew we were going to get.

It's genuinely amazing to see a team that is just this fundamentally bad. Disorganized, disjointed, whatever you want to call it. Sure, this is a team that lacks talent, but it's not the talent that's the problem. Having to start a guy like Ja'Tyre Carter at RG means you're probably fucked, but they're making such fundamental, constant mistakes in execution that it feels like they just got back together on Sunday without any practice / film review time in-between. You're not losing because your guy isn't fast / strong enough, you're losing because your guy has no fucking clue what he's doing. And it's always someone on every single play - usually more than one.

The entire roster is "What I got?"'ing the whole fucking game.

    100%
I know that my opinion means zip but this is exactly how I feel about the Bears right now. Chaos and confusion is rampant on the field and probably off the field. That's not an NFL calibre team.

Spot on, yes what difference does it make to have the strongest and fastest if they don't know where they are running or who they're supposed to hit?
This is the end result when you rely so much on measurables and not game instinct.
In a nutshell, Abe would say Bobby Douglass could throw a ball through a brick wall if he could only hit the brick wall, and then there was this guy.

Eberflus sucks, Poles sucks, McCaskey's suck, Fields sucks, Defense sucks, Offense sucks.

There's nothing left to say about this team. Watching the slide, the Bears might end up with the #1 and #2 picks this year. And they will still piss it away.
