  1. what were you using? how deep was the water? was it a weedy bed, those are money in Anchor Bay up in MI

  2. also if its gonna involve poor grammer

Tim Allen made some animal noise, I always like that about him.

No smallies. Largemouths. I prefer smallies, but most of the area's fishing is more likely to have Largemouth instead of smallmouths. Most of the area was swamp, so the bottoms are usually too muddy and weedy to support smallies. For whatever reason, the studies show Smallmouths thrive (survive after hatching) better in rocky bottom areas and Largemouths do better in the weedy areas. Milfoil or other heavy veggies rule most lakes, so Largemouths take over when it comes to the bass. Smallmouths were extremely rare on lake Michigan (in Illinios) until about 15 years ago because of the changes to the water and food chain as a result of the introduction of exotic species.

Assorted plastics. Water was shallow, 2'-9'. Visibility was about 2" in most spots. Loud baits didn't produce, small plastics were working. Post-spawn keeping them skinny and active. Cold temps and all the rain and runoff may have messed up the forage base. I found the size they seemed like of different baits (size, type, color are the priorities in that order) but I don't know if they're eating minnows, fry, larvae, whatever. I haven't been keeping them or playing doctor. I should email Michigan boy Kevin Van Damm, he would know.

Typical areas, quick dropoffs near weedy areas the best for me. Always yes on the windward side.

Still goofy around here, usually I have a good feel by now. I was nearly skunked on the big pond (L. Mich) last Sunday. About 6:15am a huge front came in from the NE and that killed activity. Lots of promise and some action the hour before that but once the front came in, it was over. "wind from the east, fish are least" or so they say. I buy into it more often than not. Never killed em' on a day with a strong wind from the East in the midwest or southern Michigan.

  6. sounds like youve done your homework. the 'loud' baits seem to work well here maybe because even the fish are pissed that the Hawks beat us. something I learned from a very old fisherman when I lived in Traverse City (and I thought was ridiculous at the time) is check the barometric pressure, when its over 130 there will be tons of activity when its below the fish are docile almost doesnt matter the specie. I for the first time starting watching that years and years ago and its now a rule of thumb for me. I like the smallies for fun but the large are the pics you bring home. sounds like good times Bob one of these days were going fishing - just dont show me your tattoo on your back or Ill have to make you some cement shoes ;)

  7. I also gotta think the wind is imperative for you, when I lived up north it always came outta the west so it was more a matter of how strong. down here most of the storms and winds have either subsided or if its developed into a storm obviously you wont be on the water. just curious how does the wind affect things for you? certain species more active if its windy?

  8. i am not sure what u are calling a Dio face. there is no smilie that is triggered by "m/" - i have to assume u mean "\m\/". without the quotes, that becomes \m\/

that's backslash m backslash slash (without any spaces)

  9. . and let's not panic about the Norris. i'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess cBS has been wrong before.

we all know ian white is the ONLY deserving candidate.

Something to be said for that. My best year of bass fishing continues to be 1995. All baits were clobbered.
My best walleye year in the states was 88 after the Blues took out the Hawks.
My best year north of the U.S. was 2004 after Sutter beat the Wings (that really bothered me).
Lots of big loud sloppy baits were effective those years in all conditions.

Pressure and lunar activity matter, absolutely.
130? Do you mean 30inhg? I usually go by the pressure trend but I've had the opposite success though, the drop in pressure (before a storm) usually brings fish shallower and makes them more active in my experience. Higher pressure and clear skies tends to be the worst in my experience. Higher sustained pressure and I'm going smaller, slower, and deeper as a guideline. Lower pressure and I'm going bigger, faster, and shallower.

I'm hoping to get out that way next year. A spot in ND, Lake Erie, and Lake St.Claire are the frontrunners.

Curious betting lines for Boston-Chicago. I expect alot of movement. I'm not even betting a beer on this one.

East wind has been a problem for me in SW michigan, IL, IN, WI, and MN. I haven't taken note in other spots I've been fishing. If FLA, I've noticed no real relationship but I never spent too much time on the big lakes. I always preferred a west wind, and the west wind is dominant in most of the midwest.

For walleye and smallies, I've always found fishing the side where the wind it pushing is the best. The water is stirred up and once the forage base is established, the fish concentrate. I've had similar but more erratic success with other species.

For largemouths, northern, etc. I don't have nearly as strong an opinion on wind as I do for walleyes or smallies. Walleye really like low light conditions and turbid water more than most fish it seems. I don't ever recall a good day fishing for walleye on a clear lake with good light and visibility greater than 6 feet unless it was in water greater than 15'. Chop makes it easier to catch bass and northern shallow in clear water in my experience too. Once the wind is great that 15mph, it gets really tough on big lakes sometimes.

As soon as I think I know anything about fish, I usually only have to go out again to find out I don't really know that much.

  16. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

I cant even catch the fish in my living room aquarium...

  17. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Roman Josi signs 7 year $28million today with the Predators. Dallas Eakins is named oficially as coach in Edmonton. Not much on the wires today as far as news. I guess sometimes no news, is good news. Or just plain ole boring...

I've found draining mine and using a bigger net improves my odds.

  19. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I saw that Josi extension. Didn't see Nashville making another monster committment like that. Probably a good sign for the franchise. This is going to make the cost of business much more expensive for more gms.
