my opinion on who deserves the hardware if the season is done....
Hart- Draisaitl (points on top of points, the German horse deserves it)
Norris- Carlsson (points on top of points, the American horse deserves it)
Vezina- Rask (nod to Halak for allowing Tuukka the necessary breaks)
Calder- Makar (slightly less points than Q. Hughes but I think CM is the more rounded player)
Selke- Bergeron (i dont understand how he wouldn't win it but Ive thought this way the past 5+ seasons)
    Byng- blah dont care enough
Adams- this is a tough one, dont want to be a homer (too much) so I'll say Torts instead of Cassidy
GM of the year- Sakic (proven correct unloading costly players like Varlamov and Soderberg, ballsie trade of Barrie that has worked in their favor and then an underrated savvy move trading for Burakovsky)

    pick it apart boys

NHL sees 'bigger window' in summer to complete regular season, Daly says
Deputy Commissioner hopeful time period will allow for full schedule in 2020-21

The NHL has not reached the point where it has ruled out finishing the regular season and staging the Stanley Cup Playoffs in full, after pausing the season March 12 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"I think as time has gone on, we've recognized we might have a bigger window than we had originally thought with respect to the summer months and when we have to finish things to be ready for a full regular season next year," Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said Friday.

The International Olympic Committee announced Tuesday the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, opening TV time on NBC networks in July and August. The NHL has asked teams for arena availability through the end of August.

"I will say that it remains our hope, if not our goal, to be playing hockey sooner than then," Daly said. "Depending on how things play out, we'd love to be playing sometime in the spring, and then if we have to leak into early summer, we'd love to have that problem. But I don't think we're far enough along in understanding where this is going to know what's possible at this point in time. ...

"We think if we were required to, we might have the ability to play in August. If we have to fit games in, we'll find ways to fit games in."

The NHL has reached the end of the original two-week period it directed players to self-quarantine. The period now extends through at least April 4.

Three players have tested positive for the virus: two from the Ottawa Senators and one from the Colorado Avalanche. Daly said others have tested negative and others have test results pending. He declined to give specific numbers but said they were "very low, relatively speaking."

"We're getting a handle on the overall health of the NHL community, and I think by all accounts, we're relatively healthy, knock on wood," Daly said. "I think that bodes well as we kind of continue to navigate this and continue to hope for an opportunity to return to play."

Some players have expressed concerns about staying in shape while self-quarantining and starting immediately with the playoffs if the NHL cannot finish the regular season.

"There's going to be an adequate training camp with an ability to get back up to speed," Daly said. "In terms of the first meaningful game, I'm not in a position to say what that's going to look like, but we certainly understand the sentiment and the concerns about kind of jumping right back in."

The NHL announced Wednesday the postponements of the 2020 NHL Scouting Combine, scheduled for June 1-6 in Buffalo; the 2020 Bridgestone NHL Awards, scheduled for June 18 in Las Vegas; and the 2020 NHL Draft, scheduled for June 26-27 in Montreal.

NHL Central Scouting director Dan Marr is sending a memo to teams covering policies and protocols for draft prospects. Teams will be permitted to conduct interviews and psychological tests, but remotely at this point.

"I don't think we can probably replicate a combine at this point in time," Daly said. "I think Central Scouting's going to do what they can to supplement and enhance the database and the information that clubs have with respect to draft prospects between now and whenever we have a draft."

The Deputy Commissioner said the NHL cannot make decisions on the 2020 NHL Draft Lottery or order until it knows if and how the season will resume. As for the draft, the preference is to stage a typical draft, but options include holding a streamlined event or conducting it electronically.

The Montreal Canadiens will host a draft at Bell Centre at some point, the Deputy Commissioner said.

"It's an unfortunate circumstance, obviously, but they've been fantastic partners in terms of making the decisions we needed to make on the timeline that we felt like we needed to make them," Daly said.

The NHL has not made a definitive decision not to stage an awards show, but the calendar is crowded.

"You have to prioritize what needs to get done with what can get done," Daly said. "If we can pull off an awards show that's worthy, we'd love to have one. Not understanding what the realities are yet and how big our window will be, I would say there are other things that are going to have to come before the awards show."

If the rest of the regular season is canceled, will the NHL still hand out awards?

"I have not even begun to consider it at this point in time, so I can't tell you one way or the other on that," Daly said. "I'll add that on the list of items that need to be decided."

    nice Will.
must be something with 3/31, another great player's Birthday as well. Pavel Bure was my favorite player as a kid and the reason I wore #10 in high school and Jrs. I wanted to play like him so badly, lol, wasnt in the cards I was definitely more of a sandpapery type and certainly didnt have the Russian Rocket's wheels.

Lehner celebrates second year of sobriety with grateful Twitter post
Golden Knights goalie thanks family, friends for support after reaching another milestone

Robin Lehner gave us all something to cheer Saturday.

The Vegas Golden Knights goalie celebrated his second full year of sobriety, sharing a heartfelt message of gratitude on Twitter.

Lehner expressed thanks to all the NHL fans who have cheered for him to succeed over the past two years. He opened up about his struggles with alcohol and drugs in September 2018, while a member of the New York Islanders, and credited that honesty with his success in sobriety.

"Thanks to my family, friends and all support from around the world," Lehner shared in his post. "Being transparent and telling my story changed my life. Taking the steps to get help but changed everything."

He shared a similar message on Twitter last April when he helped the Islanders attain home-ice advantage in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Lehner played eight games and helped New York reach the Eastern Conference Second Round in his only season there.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday that the League is exploring every reasonable option for resuming the 2019-20 season and ensuring that it is ready to fully spring into action as soon as the "green light" is given by authorities and medical professionals.
    ___________
    _______________________

"From an NHL standpoint, and I'm sure this is what the other leagues are doing, we're viewing all of our options," Commissioner Bettman said on "Lunch Talk Live" on NBCSN. "We want to be ready to go as soon as we get a green light, and the green light may not be crystal clear because there may still be some places in the country you can't play and other places where you can.

"We're looking at all options. Nothing has been ruled in, nothing has been ruled out. It's largely going to be determined what we do by how much time there is, because we have next season to focus on as well, and the health of the country, and by the country, I mean both Canada and the U.S., obviously."

Commissioner Bettman said he hopes to know more by the end of April. The NHL season was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

If the NHL can come back this season, Commissioner Bettman said the players will require "at least a couple of weeks" to get ready.

"That's something we're consulting and will be continuing to consult with the [NHL] Players' Association on," Commissioner Bettman said. "As important as health and well-being is now, and that's paramount over everything and when and how we play sports, but when we come back, we have to make sure we don't do anything to jeopardize the players in terms of their ability to play and making sure they're in game-ready shape. That all goes into the equation."

Commissioner Bettman said he believes the window for the NHL season can extend "well into the summer" in part because NBC, the League's U.S.-based national television partner, has an opening in August because the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were postponed.

He said he's not concerned about ice conditions if games must be played in July and August.

"The days of when games had to be postponed because there was no air conditioning in a building are long behind us," Commissioner Bettman said. "We have modern, state-of-the-art buildings. We play in places like Florida, Southern California, Arizona, Las Vegas, Dallas. We can handle making ice now in any condition because our buildings are that good and our ice-making capability is that good. We play outdoors when it's warm sometimes. Ice won't be a factor. It'll be something we deal with, but it'll be the least of the issues we're focused on."

Torey Krug has said wants to remain with the Boston Bruins following this season, and general manager Don Sweeney echoed those sentiments Friday.

"I dearly hope that Torey hasn't played his last game, this year or going forward," Sweeney said of the defenseman who can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. "He's been a big part of any success we've had as an organization. He's a special player both on and off the ice. He means a lot in the locker room and I think everybody could acknowledge his attributes on the ice and his importance to our team."

Krug, who turns 29 on Sunday, is a key member of the power-play unit and an important offensive and defensive presence on the second pair for the Bruins. He had 49 points (nine goals, 40 assists) in 61 games before the season was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus. In seven seasons with the Bruins, Krug has 337 points (67 goals, 270 assists) in 523 games.

He is in the final season of a four-year, $21 million contract with an average annual value of $5.25 million.

"In [an NHL salary] cap world, we have to try and fit the pieces together," Sweeney said. "We've had very, very good discussions with Torey's group. We just haven't found a landing spot, and that's understandable, given the circumstances of where the cap is and, really, his value, both to us but also in a potential open-market situation."

Krug said Tuesday, "For me personally, I really hope I did not play my last game as a Boston Bruin. It's been a special place for me and my family to grow and my love for the game and playing in front of these fans, it's been very special to me."

The NHL has not set a deadline for a decision on canceling the season and are considering for the moment, of having neutral ice games with no fans, but that's not ideal, according to Daly.

Meanwhile, time keeps on slipping, slipping, into the future... tic toc tic, do do doodoo.

Just over 10 years ago the good guys had 3 shorties on the same minor penalty. I can’t find a record of that ever happening before or after that.
