We’re in Alcobaça, about an hour north of Lisboa. We’re 10 km (6 mi) from the beach town of Nazare, famous for its huge waves. They are often 75 feet high due to a canyon off-shore. There is a lot to see here, the food is good (especially the seafood) and the people are great.

We’re on Europe’s welcome mat, and after Spain, Morocco is the closest country. It’s easy (and inexpensive) to get all over Europe.

You can use PM when you’re ready. Of course all this applies to anyone - even fans of the hockey team from Boston and Philadelphia.

 

We have a sizeable Portuguese community here, a distinct difference though is that the majority are from the Azores islands.

They're considered part of Portugal, but the islands were discovered in the 1500s, and then settled through the years. Mostly mainlanders arrived, but also French, Germans, Italians, Flemish. They do have different looks than portuguese from the mainland.
I've heard a few say that they get looked down upon by the mainland folks.

Sounds like a nice place to live, you did good for yourself, cheers.
