Maxim Mamin, the now-former developing Panthers player, signs 2 year deal in KHL. Real shame for Florida, and a bummer for the NHL in general - kid had promise. Tough and a good skater. Just another guy that the previous coaching staff did a disservice to, and management didn't do enough to keep. Should be starting bottom 6 for FLA this year.

Maybe another NHL team will cash in after that deal, bringing him back. Maybe he never amounts to anything. We won't know unless someone in Russia tells us, now...

 

Not to mention taking what could be the best name in the league from us to boot.

BOSTON -- Rod Brind'Amour has an idea who the starting goalie will be for the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Thursday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, SN, TVAS), but declined to announce it Wednesday.

Petr Mrazek started the first nine games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for Carolina before leaving in Game 2 of the second round against the New York Islanders because of a lower-body injury. Curtis McElhinney replaced him and started the next two games, making 54 saves on 58 shots to help the Hurricanes sweep that best-of-7 series and reach the conference final for the first time since 2009.

Each goalie practiced in Raleigh, North Carolina, before departing for Boston on Wednesday, with Mrazek playing in the home net.

My cash is on Mrazek starting, but it really doesnt matter with the system the Canes play defensively. One thing that it does offer is a solid #2 if someone gets hurt or has a terrible start and needs to get yanked. Dont need no AHL goalie going in an ECF.
