Dan - They swapped from 4 to 1 in 03. they drafted Fleury. Keep in mind they got Malkin 2nd overall in the 04 draft and crosby from the draft lottery #1 in 05. so that's a 1-2-1 in back to back to back years. hmm.

 

If you trade up to get the first pick then how can a team be accused of "tanking" for #1?

Twice in 3 years the Colorado Avalanche had the best odds in the NHL Draft Lottery and dropped as far as they could to #4 and each time the New Jersey Devils jumped to #1.

 

I'm with dline, not a believer in the Avs. Way too thin of a roster, one line and a bag full of plugs. thin on D and iffy in net.
Seen Makar more than a few times, he's the real deal but it also looks like Barrie is hitting UFA next summer.
Can Bowers and Jost progress? less than stellar so far.

 

ok Dan. they originally had the #4 pick, BUT they had the second lowest amount of points that year. maybe they just sucked vs a tank, but they sucked the next season to get Malkin too. so their track record of finishing near the bottom still stands two out of those three years ! remember, they got malkin #2 and crosby from the lockout lottery draft at #1. so in the malkin draft, they stunk. the fleury draft, they were bad. only the crosby draft, they were not the worst team in the league. they were near the bottom 2 of those drafts. their either tanked or just sucked!
