Only 8 teams have gone on to win Lord Stanley after winning the Presidents.

The Canadiens Women's Hockey League is folding. Bummer. Six teams (one based in China) found fan support, but the business side just did not work.

The U.S. based NWHL remains; currently with five teams (Boston, Buffalo, Connecticut, Minnesota, and New York). Hopefully the NWHL absorbs some of the Canadian teams. I never understood the business sense of having two pioneering leagues instead of one to keep league overhead to a minimum.

 

I think that's what will happen, they'll merge the teams with the nhlwl.

 

Big game coming up here for the Pens, if they get overtaken by the Canes, they'll be facing thd Caps in the first round instead of the Isles.

 

Yotes up 1-0 on the Wild, a loss today should all but do it for Minny.

The NWHL are likely to take in two CWHL clubs; one in T.O. area, and Montreal. Calgary is too far out to be economically feasible.

 

I can't say I follow, they had a $3.7M budget per team. I think if the NHL steps in and takes care of things, it would be a win all around.

 

The NHL is not going to step in a take care of the financing of the NWHL.

This is not a rhetorical question: why would they?

 

This was the topic of converaation this morning on the radio. This would be following the NBA when they helped out the WNBA. It's good PR, and there's ways the NHL could make it work that others can't.

 

The NHL getting involved would give it more legitimacy. Better owners with deeper pockets, advertising, merchandinsing, possible tv contracts. You grow the sport with the other half of the population.

What I'm looking forward to is being in Stockholm on Friday 8 November to watch the Sabres vs. TB in the NHL Global Series. I know the Swedes love hockey and love to have a good time. Should be fun!
