Flyers on the Fly...

Just a couple of weeks ago the Philadelphia Flyers looked like a team that was going nowhere fast.

They had won just eight of their first 26 games, were stuck in a 10-game losing streak, and coach Dave Hakstol seemed to be sitting on a seat that was getting warmer by the day.

A lot has changed in the two-and-a-half weeks since.

On Wednesday, they topped the Detroit Red Wings by a 4-3 margin to win for the seventh time in their past eight games and moved to within two points of a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. After Wednesday’s game they are now tied with their cross-state rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and are technically ahead of them for the moment because they still have a game in hand.

It is quite a turnaround for a Flyers team that on December 3 had the third-worst record in the NHL and was 10 points back of the Penguins.

Two assists today for Eberle.

It's funny that his career peaked at 21, now 27, he's been averaging about at a .65 PPG clip. When you take into consideration he was a 22nd pick, that's not too bad.

In 2011 he had 76 pts in 79 games.

 

I'm not a PK fan, but he has done some really cool shit for people in Nashville. I have a soft spot for kids who are in hospital and cancer patients... what he did for the kids was way cool.

 

True, people could dislike his game, but you can't deny what he does for charity. He could just choose to do nothing if he wanted to, he's not obliged to do anything.

 

The other day a blind lady needed help to get to an escalator. I was walking toward her and there were two people in front of me and they ignored her. I stopped and directed her to the escalator. I could've ignored her too.

 

I was in midtown last week finishing up some xmas shopping, and a homeless guy wanted me to light his "cigarette" for him. He was presenting a Metro Travel Card, but he was convinced it was a smoke. I felt really bad for the guy. So I gave him 1/2 a joint and lit it for him on the spot.

 

Johnny Bower has passed away at age 93, a family statement coming shortly.
