No, they were in the middle of discussing lock out issues.

Ya good thing Ovi accepted his fate in September. Imagine how pissed he'd be now. Players can still compete under the Olympic flag if they are vetted by the IOC but no way it happens with a team, especially anything bigger than a relay.

Wings beat the Jets, 5-1. I don't believe it myself.

Forbes is always wrong with sports team valuations. The Blackhawks were already worth over $1B, and the Rangers wouldn't sell for more than the Leafs and if it wasn't for a shaky dollar I'd say Montreal as well guaranteed.

The value of the leafs and rangers is misleading seeing as they add other local teams in the mix. MLSE includes the raptors, marlies and TFC, while MSG includes the rangers, knicks and other local teams.

I read last month somewhere the LEAFS are one of the top 10 wealthiest teams in all of sports, world-wide. most of the top 10 were soccer teams and I believe the Dallas Cowboys made the list as well. No Rangers on the list.

Even from my American eye and without numbers, the most valuable hockey teams would seem to be Toronto and Montreal. And MSG should be razed...fucking dump.

It's hard to get a value on the leafs because they're under the same umbrella with the raptors, TFC, marlies and the rock (lacrosse).

Accounting can get you anywhere you want. Few read the footnotes * in a financial statement, and they're the key to making sense of financials. Otherwise, it's too easy to make the "facts" look like anything you want. (What do the Toronto Rock have to do with the valuation of the Leafs? Really.)

Congratulations * You are reading a footnote. Well done!

When they evaluate the leafs, the only value I see given is for MLSE. The rock are included as one of the entites owned by them.

Karmanos: Sale of Hurricanes could happen as early as this afternoon

    But... I havnt heard anything... from PHT;

MANALAPAN, Fla. — The sale of the Carolina Hurricanes could be announced as early as this afternoon.

Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Jr. and Dallas billionaire Tom Dundon made a presentation to the executive committee of the NHL’s board of governors this morning in Manalapan, Fla.

“Pete and I built a relationship,” Dundon said after the meeting. “We want to work together, so we’re thinking about it.”

Karmanos, who would maintain a minority stake under the proposal, says approval of the deal could happen by the end of the day after the full board of governors meet.

Both men say the plan is to keep the Hurricanes in Raleigh, N.C., despite Dundon’s ties to Texas and the fact the Houston market would be attractive to the NHL.

“We like (the team) where it is,” said Dundon.

Karmanos said having a majority owner committed to Raleigh was important.

“It was never really a consideration,” he said. “The league is not amenable to moving franchises at all.”

Karmanos has owned the team since 1994 when it was the Hartford Whalers and moved the franchise to North Carolina in 1997.

He said in August he wanted to sell the Hurricanes for about US$500 million.
