Nolan Patrick of the Flyers will skate next week in camp... He was recovering from abdominal surgery.

^^have you guys, since you're all super big hockey fans, ever heard of these abdominal injuries before 2000 ? it's like the mlb guys and their oblique injuries. never heard of that either bf 2005 and now everyone has one. for hockey the infamous "upper body injury" appears. what the hell is that? or these abdominal injuries. were players just tougher and played through injuries in the past ?

teams are just poaching coaches and mgt from the Penguins and I think it is a big deal.

It could end up being one. I'm a big believer in continuity at the top of the food chain.

When you start taking some of the conductors out of an orchestra that rocks the house in the biggest concert of the year, back to back no less, the music may not be the same.

I agree with both of you. Team chemistry is as important with the coach's as well as the personal on the ice.

really? i mean tocchet was doing flyers post-game coverage less than 3 yrs ago. yeah he was an assistant on the pens staff that won back to back cups, but is he really a huge loss? lets not forget the fine work he did in tampa and his trouble in arizona before? his track record doesn't scream "great head coach" to me.

I think he is a very good assistant but not sure about head coach. I don't think there are any huge expectations in AZ at this point anyways.

He thought Pittsburgh was such a better city than Philly that he drove every day from Pittsburgh to Philly to do postgame for the Flyers. :p

^^^ tocchet is a dumb rockhead, but he's not that dumb.

  10. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

I didn't see anyone say that Tocchet was a great HC or that its a 'really huge loss'... I think the point being made is that collectively the assistants going elsewhere is not necessarily a good thing.

After being bought out by the Rangers, Girardi wants to show he can still ?play and contribute?

Dan Girardi has only suited up for one NHL team during his career, but that?s going to change next fall when he plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The veteran blue liner was bought out by the New York Rangers this offseason, and he?s looking to show the league he can still be a valuable contributor.

?Obviously the ending in New York isn?t what I wanted, but I think this is a good opportunity for me to come here and help the younger guys on the back end,? said Girardi.

?Obviously being bought out makes me more hungry to show that I can still play and contribute.?

Girardi was once a serviceable shutdown defenseman, but injuries and the speed of the game have caught up to him over the last little while.

Near the end of his tenure with the Rangers, it had become increasingly clear that he wasn?t capable of playing the big minutes he had been playing in previous years.

That didn?t stop the Lightning from shelling out $6 million over two years to bring him into the fold.

The 33-year-old has seen his ice time decrease in each of the last five seasons. He played over 26 minutes per game in 2011-12, and that number has gone down to 25:24, 23:07, 22:41, 20:19 and 19:06. Sheltering him with a mobile defense partner on the third pairing will likely be the best fit for him at this stage of his career.

?I feel 100% great, I feel hungrier than I?ve been any other year,? added Girardi. ?I feel like you?ve been in one place for so long that you get on cruise control and that might not be good for your career. What happened to me is really going to jump-start it. I?ve been working out at the gym really hard, and I?m going to start skating here very shortly. This is the most excited I?ve been for a year in a really long time. ? (PHT)

Veteran defenseman Brian Campbell officially announced his retirement. The 38-year-old broke the news during a radio interview in Chicago on Monday morning.

Campbell spent the 2016-17 season with the Blackhawks, where he put up five goals and 17 points in 80 contests.
In 1082 career games (17 seasons) with the Sabres, Sharks, ?Hawks and Panthers, he scored 87 goals, 504 points and 277 penalty minutes.

His best year came in 2007-08, as he collected five goals and 43 points in 63 games with Buffalo before adding three goals and 19 points in 20 games after being traded to San Jose.

Campbell put together a solid career. He was named to the All-Star game four times (2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2011-12), he was on the NHL?s second All-Star team in 2007-08, he won the Lady Byng Trophy in 2011-12 (he had just six penalty minutes in 82 games), and he hoisted the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2009-10.

sorry im not buying this/more tix revenue than boston, philly and pittsburgh. no way. does he not think the other teams mentioned here don't have multi-years of tix sold ? ever hear of a waiting list? you're talking about great and loyal fanbases in philly, pitt and boston. they constantly sell out games and yet vegas is better than them without even playing a game ? i don't buy it.

The Carolina Hurricanes saw the biggest drop in attendance of all the 4 major sports at 32%.

  18. Catfish Guest

^^ ouch! and that's from an attendance level low to begin with.

too bad they can't fold and move to a city that would want and support them!

  19. skinny123 Guest

That's why I was questioning that unusually high asking price.

I heard that Crosby is pushing for the olympics now, too much advertising bucks at stake.
