He'll get some of Horton's shifts. I think he'll get comparable numbers, but I think they'll lag Seguin's a bit since he'll get plenty of prime ice time with Benn.

I just meant after the trade. I wasn't assuming anything with Joanie or Savard (I want to call him roadkill, but that wouldn't be funny at all).

For the goalies, another couple of forwards and a dman, Chiarelli still has about 13 million to spend. They're in good shape with a depth and a flexible cap situation now.

If Seguin struggled next year, I don't think they would have landed as good of a return.

  3. If I could pick one reason to hate Matt Cooke for the rest of my life it's because he is solely responsible for ending Savard's career. For as bad of a reputation as a couple of the Bruins players have Savard appeared to be as classy and down to earth as they come. To bad his life had to be pretty well ruined by Cooke.

  4. Fair enough and definitely true. But on the flip side if Seguin puts up 35 goals or 40 goals and 75 points for the next couple seasons the return would have been enormous

Can we get some Brian Burke comments?

  6. assuming this actually happens (wouldn't be the first time a done deal with the Broonz wasn't lately), as a fan of a new division rival to one of the teams here, gotta say i hope seguin goes on to make people say "wayne who?", and eriksson blows goats. sorry matty, it's just business :)

  7. Yep. I will comment on Brian Burke. I think he blows as a GM. LOL

Brier watch is next on the agenda.

Understood Lulz. You guys will need all the help you can get moving forward and you can't blame travel anymore.

RW, I disagree w/ your Bruins assesment. Yes Marchand is too ratlike but aside from him I believe the Bruins are a very good stand up group. Bruins hit hard and bully hockey teams around. I love the way this team plays and they're lead by 2 of the most well respected playets in Chara and Bergy. Hate to say it but Savard was very punky, very skilled also but stilll punky.

  10. lol matty. BUT WE WERE TIRED!

danny boy has the potential to pin the sillymeter.

Good at trading, terrible at figuring out how to use the cap space wisely when signing free agents or extending existing contracts, a blowhard till the end.

With Peverley now leaving its a good time to call attention to the deal that got him here in 11. Blake Wheeler just had a big year and Mark Stuart a solid 2nd/3rd pairing D. Not sure on their contracts but Winnipeg came out on top there.

  13. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Stuart is just depth, and Wheeler would have had a tough time fitting in the last 3 years. Combined cap hit the last 2 years of 4.25. I think Boston came out ahead given everything and 2 trips to the finals.

  14. nhl.com is now confirming the trade.

You mean the 'brought fireworks', 'blockbuster', '4th of July', trade. :)

Danny Briere and the Canadiens have agreed on a 2 year contract. I dont know for what kind of cash right now.

  17. lebrun cough*ESPN*cough says it's for 8 million.

  18. pretty disappointing, i was hoping for some extreme silliness there.

Happy 4th of July, my brunch party is over, did I miss anything?

  20. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Bergevin gives Briere 2 x 4 cap hit...not sure Briere can come close to living up to it.
Ballard now part of the Wild for 2 x1.5 cap hit...Rediiis weeps tears of joy.

Alfie's decision is Detroit, Boston, or Ottawa. In other words, it's Ottawa.
