I found Bruce's work to be the most impressive myself. Lingering contract issues, a dead last team, bleak economic outlook for the franchise, etc. He not only won the division, but he had the 3rd best record in the league. The team improved in almost every area. Walrus already had a playoff team. He did great, no doubt about it but he finished 7th at the end of the day in a weak conference (yes, SE division drags everybody down) and 3rd in the division, injuries or not, that's not impressive enough to win the award from me. I say give it to Bruce. Q had too good of a roster to be seriously considered similar to some coaches every year. He may have had a stronger case in an 82 game season.

I was thinking Murray or Big Bad Bruce should have been recognized. They impressed me this year. Lots of good candidates for coach of the year and gm of the year. I always feel bad for West coast nominees.

Not a fan of ST Louis winning the lady byng. I hate when teams that suck get awards. Not that the cabbie punchin' Kaner deserved it any more, but he and Moulson were key parts of teams that actually accomplished something.

I've had it before, my problem is that it's called poison. I try not to eat poison as a rule. (no lulz, I don't consider the mercury and arsenic in seafood poison.)

    My thought is WTFFB?

    (What the flying flock batman)

Utica, that should really ease the travel burden. We know they're moving the franchise closer, but I wonder when. The AHL will be shufflin next offseason too. Utica is not a good place to entice foreign players to go develop compared to Chicago, hope they don't stay there longer than they have to.

STL in Chicago next year, thanks to Gillis, I didn't get to see many Nucks prospects when they were here besides a couple interesting dmen and the little engine that's really little. Stillman's cash grab will make for a more interesting hockey situation in Chicago at STL's expense.

I'll have to wait until the end of the year to nominate the ditch awards. Maybe a separate thread. Lots of great names that survived the year but we lost some talent like Torts, Tambellini, Sacco, Kruger, AV, Joe Nieuwendyk, Gulutzman, Boucher, and some assistants. Going to be tough to find worthy survivors for the ditch awards.

This will need it's own thread.

let's get started on 2013 Ditch Awards. let's come up with some categories and nominees and have this thing settled by the start of Game 4 of the Finals. for the categories, we can break it down into positions as well (e.g. Off The Cliff Award {aka THE CLIFF} can go to a forward, a defenseman and a goalie, that demonstrates a significant drop off from the previous year). how about THE ZUG (where a bad player statistically exemplified his poorly playing team)? TEH SUCK for the overall worst character on and/or off the ice. THE HOUDINI, where a player started off pretty well then suddenly disappeared and is still perhaps sitting on the bottom of the Detroit River. THE MUD, for the worst skater. anyone think of anything else...

  8. hmmm good idea Halo, gonna have to think about this. how about Ditch enforcement(best fighter) ditch sieve(worst starting goalie) and ditch digger and builder (most overrated player- digger & most underrated player- builder)

  9. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    Good thinking.

    Beachball-worst save %
    Whiplash-worst GAA
    Houdini-where did he go?
    Teh SUCK-character
    Thanks for the effort-shooting %
The ZUG-(awesome btw.) the embodiment of bad.
The Mud (we call it the Smooth award but we can change it)-for the top non-wheeled skater.
The Leech (also known as the Nash)-racking up cheap stats
The Voices- most minor, non-offsetting penalties.
    The Cliff- I like it.
The I-love-me vest - worst gm (that isn't fired)

Need awards for worst contract, nominees for the Havlat award (probably his to lose), most disappointing prospect, etc. I think draft week is s good time for this if there isn't too much trading.

How many times have I used its in place of it's since you've seen my first post on CBS?
If my grammar is correct, I might be taken more seriously and that's no good for anybody.

    Ditch-digger...I like it.
We don't acknowledge underrated because it's much too positive.
Ditch enforcement will be called the fist catcher I think.
Ditch-sieve...I like that to. We could also call them the "high priest" to acknowledge their holiness.

what do the awards look like? how about a half-eaten lunch cake served on tin foil?
