After it became pretty clear that Keefe was not likely to be lured to Buffalo, Tipps became my consolation option for the Sabres. Krueger jumped to the front of the line, and he's really grown on me.

Everyone with anything to say gushes about the guy. It's also extremely cool that he went undercover and spent time in several Buffalo gin mills talking to Sabres fans to get a read on fandom.

Marc Crawford was hired as an assistant to coach Jeremy Colliton with the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.

Crawford, 58, went 7-10-1 as coach of the Ottawa Senators this season after replacing Guy Boucher on March 1. The Senators hired D.J. Smith as coach May 23.

"Jeremy has an extremely bright and innovative mind and I am totally impressed by his presence and enthusiasm," Crawford said. "I know we will have a terrific relationship and my experience should benefit the entire coaching staff."

The rest of the Blackhawks' staff includes assistants Sheldon Brookbank and Tomas Mitell, goaltending coach Jimmy Waite and video coach Matt Meacham. Crawford's son, Dylan Crawford, is assistant video coach.

Crawford previously coached the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars. He won the Jack Adams Award with the Nordiques in 1995 and guided the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup in 1996. He is 556-431-79 with 103 ties in 1,169 NHL games.

TEH Phil goes to the desert to coach the Yotes D.

Still a fan - I've been a Housley fan since 1983. However, I do not think he has the stuff to be a HC in the NHL.

Cassidy is going to be around for a while... he signed a multi-year extension.

He is 117-52-22 in 191 games with the Bruins, a .670 points percentage that's fourth in their history, and reached 100 wins in 166 games; only Tom Johnson (138 games) did it faster for them. Boston has 256 points since Cassidy replaced Claude Julien on Feb. 7, 2017, second in the NHL during that span behind the Tampa Bay Lightning (283).

Craig Mactavish fired after 8 games by Lokomotiv of the KHL. They learned quickly from watching Edmonton keep this guy around for a decade of futility.

Haven't heard that name in a while, 8 games in the KHL, that's gotta hurt.

Babs canned. Sheldon Keefe moves up from the Marlies. I don't see Babs as the problem in Toronto, but also do not see him as a long term solution. If a long term solution is to be found, Keefe is the most likely HC to lead that charge.

Babs made a TON of money (even after discounting for the Looney). No one should feel sorry for him. It was simply time to move on. I am excited to see what Keefe brings, even though I think the Leafs' problems run pretty deep for an easy solution.

I think they all get paid in American coin (although not sure about coaches).
I honestly think they quit on him and also 13 new faces from last season.
He is a good coach, but not an 8 year $50M coach, way overpaid. He would've been good at a 4 year/$16M term.

Yeah, the Looney remark was just gratuitous rhetoric. Looney or Greenback, Babs made some serious coin.

I think the team quit on him. And that's THE reason he had to go. It doesn't matter what the reason, when a HC has lost the locker room he is useless. Toronto also had probably the hottest young coach in the wings. Someone was going to steal him - or at least try, driving up his price - if they waited too long.

I'm glad Babs jilted the Sabres saving them the ignominy of firing him. (I do not believe any HC could hold the Sabres bench job for long given their roster at the time.)

I was listening to 550, they're glad they didn't take babs.
Barries play really had an impact, how come he isn't able to have him play as effective as he was in Colorado?
That's the coaches job, so he wasn't putting the players in the best positions to succeed (wrong systems).

Hey Mike Babcock....simply put your players quit on you. They quit on you because you are a terrible human being. You are an average coach with an extremely oversized ego. You finally got exactly what you deserve you selfish prick. The hockey world is ecstatic.

    1. lie to his players. @commie22 may have strong public opinions of Babs, but in our fraternity of #NHL and former #NHL players, he’s speaking for the masses. He’s speaking for countless players who have personally told me their terrible stories of Babs just being a bad guy.

who 95% of his players can’t say a good thing about. With the ability to end players careers, he’s chosen to do so to long serving vets that have resulted in all his players turning against him. He’s used his power to turn teammates against each other, and choose to continuously

We share stories throughout the years with each other and for those outside the locker rooms, you will never truly understand some of the terrible undeserving things Babs has done to his some of his players. You don’t have to like all your coaches, but he is one

Anyone who thinks @commie22 needs to lay off Babs just doesn’t understand how much hate players have for him. It’s beyond him scratching @commie22 or saying he was out of shape. #NHL players are a very very small population of athletes and people.
