Might be a good addition as a coach, but the Senators don't have a team left. Certainly not the talent the Avs had back in the day.
Taking over a last place team is the best gig to have, anything you do is looked at as positive. Taking over a playoff team, now that's tough.
When Housley took over he had his grace period, now watch the pressure mount as the bar gets set as post-season expectations.
Quenneville in no hurry to return to coaching Enjoying watching game after being fired by Blackhawks in November... Joel Quenneville said he'll take his time before deciding when he'll return to NHL. "No hurry right now," the former Chicago Blackhawks coach told WGN TV on Sunday during the St. Patrick's Day Blackhawk Alumni Charity Classic in Willowbrook, Illinois, about 25 miles southwest of Chicago. "We'll see how things transpire in the offseason. We'll have to think about it. And we'll see." The Blackhawks fired Quenneville and replaced him with Jeremy Colliton, who was coach of Rockford of the American Hockey League, on Nov. 6. The 60-year-old Quenneville has 890 victories, second all-time to Scotty Bowman (1,244). Quenneville replaced Denis Savard as Blackhawks coach on Oct. 16, 2008 and was 452-249-96 in 11 seasons. He led the Blackhawks to Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013 and 2015. In 22 seasons as coach of the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche and Blackhawks, Quenneville is 890-532-137 with 77 ties in 1,636 games, and his teams have made the playoffs 18 times. Asked if he was surprised he was fired, Quenneville said, "in our business, there aren't too many surprises anymore." "I was privileged to be in Chicago for 10, 11 years, so it's part of the business. I understand that," he said. "I know when I exited other places, the bitterness and animosity were at a different level. Here the memories are so special and so good, and the people here are so special to me and my family. It was tough. I never got to thank the fans, but I have nothing but appreciation [for them], and I admire all they've done in supporting our team and our experience here in Chicago." Quenneville said he still watches a lot of NHL games. "I try not to watch as much Blackhawks as I used to, but I watch most of the games," he said. "It's been a great race and it's going to be fun to see how it all plays out." (in part from NHL.com) ______ __________________ I think there are a few teams that would let, Q' write his own check.
His contract ran through next season, right? Something like $6 million, if I remember reading right. So, if he signs a new deal before then, would he forfeit that money? If so, I think it's reasonable that we wait another year before seeing him rejoin the league. Unless, of course, the details of the contract are different than I presume, and / or someone is willing to pay him more.
Im the wrong guy to know the answer, I wish I knew, someone more knowledgeable of the situation will probably come across this... good point/questions.
After further review, he is still under contract for $6M through the 19-20' season. He's probably going to wait and lite his cigars with 100 dollar bills.
Two are two-and-done (two seasons and the axe) for two former Sabres skaters. Boughner and Housley were both let go today.
Don't want to say I told you so, they were rebuilding anyway. Housley to me was just the 80s sabres fan in Pegula doing the hiring. He had no real qualifications to justify his hiring over other better suited candidates, let's hope they get it right this time. Watch them hire Mike Foligno now lol.
I'm pleased for Panther fans and for JQ, and wish them luck. I'm also glad that he's not available to distract Sabres fans, as I don't think he's what Buffalo needs at this time. I hope they hire someone from the AHL ranks - like the guy on the Marlies, our their own guy in Rochester. Someone who has demonstrated player development skills over motivating an already-skilled roster to get best results.
Some coaches jump the shark, (Hicth, Babbs), sometimes hiring someone who's been around since 1989 isn't the answer.
Real good hire for the Panthers, in my opinion. He brings experience and a winning record and attitude that will bold well with a young club like Florida... a perfect match. Q is going to be an icon and that's a good thing too. Panthers could use some positive vibes and energy.
