very nice Dan and good luck to Housley, Ive always admired him. i hope the Bruins beat you every time but only by 1.
Boston - Buffalo should be the most intense rivalry in hockey. Eichel is the icing, and BTW, he plays for the Sabres. Buffalo is going to win those one G games. But boy is it gonna be fun!
There's a chance that the Pegulas put the kibosh on even talking to Tocchet; they're avowed "we want character" owners. (Oh, it's horseshit, but they own the team.) Regardless, it was odd that Botterill didn't even speak to him. Although there were plenty of times for "off the record" chats, such as the Pens' team plane to NAS for the final game of the SCF. BTW, thanks, and I felt it was a classy move, for the Pens to have Bots with them when they won another Cup. Made me feel better about the same organization that extorted a third round pick from Buffalo for the pleasure of having Dan Bylsma's services.
i hope so. i don't know if having 4 years as an assistant is enough to take on the reigns of head coach. should be fun to watch.
The more I read, the more I see that Botterill's fingerprints are all over this Penguin team. I think you guys got a really good one there. The Pens loss for sure. Ive heard a lot of people say they were shocked that Tocchet didn't get an interview. He worked with the guy for years, he knew what/who he is. Do we know who the Pens got with that 3rd? It would be really funny if turned into to gold.
scary he was in the flyers pre and post game broadcasts just 3 yrs ago ! do people really think he's a head coach ?
There's a lot more to TEH Phil's resume than his four years at NAS. He coached the USA World Junior's team to gold, and after his HoF playing career he spent nine years coaching HS in MN. (Do not downplay that. First, HS hockey in Minnesota is very competitive and it is obviously a job that requires learning how to communicate and develop young players.) We'll never know for sure until a HC actually does it in the NHL. But TEH Phil was widely considered to be the best untested HC prospect based on his resume. In fact, until he got the word to the Panthers go scram, many expected him to go to Sunrise.
Panthers officially add Chris Pronger to front office... He'll be a special adviser to the president of hockey operations. ____________ He's special all right!
The Arizona Coyotes will look different in 2017-18, and not just because longtime captain Shane Doan won?t be back. The team confirmed that they?re parting ways with head coach Dave Tippett late on Thursday. Tippett spent eight seasons as head coach of the Coyotes, peaking with a run to the 2012 Western Conference Final. Early on, he distinguished himself as being able to coach a sound enough defense to help the team correct for a low-budget roster. In recent years, he hasn?t been able to conjure that same magic. The Coyotes missed the playoffs in the last five seasons of Tippett?s tenure. ?On behalf of the entire Coyotes organization, I would like to sincerely thank Tip for all of his hard work and the many contributions he made to our organization,? Coyotes owner Andrew Barroway said. ?Tip is a man of high character and we are very grateful for his leadership during his tenure as our head coach. Ultimately, we have some philosophical differences on how to build our team. Therefore, we mutually agreed that it is in everyone?s best interest to have a coaching change in order to move our franchise forward.? Along with Doan and Tippett, Mike Smith is also out of town, and the ownership situation has come into focus. Former GM Don Maloney was fired last summer, so this franchise has been making big changes for some time, even ignoring the perennial arena drama. The Coyotes announced that a new coaching search would kick into gear ?immediately.?
Rangers to hire Lindy Ruff as an assistant?coach Lindy Ruff?s time with the Dallas Stars ended in April following a disappointing regular season, but it appears he?s found another coaching gig in the NHL. It is, however, a different role than what he?s been used to for the past 20 years. Per Larry Brooks of the New York Post, a deal has not been done yet, however, Ruff will join the Rangers as an assistant coach on Alain Vigneault?s staff. He?ll reportedly replace Jeff Beukeboom and will be in charge of New York?s defense.
?Good possibility? that Coyotes will name Rick Tocchet as head?coach The Arizona Coyotes? search for a new head coach might be coming to an end. According to TSN hockey analyst Darren Dreger, there?s a good chance that they?ll give the job to Penguins assistant Rick Tocchet. Tocchet, of course, was part of Mike Sullivan?s staff that won back-to-back Stanley Cups over the last two seasons. Prior to joining the Penguins in 2014-15, the 53-year-old served as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning for two years, but he failed to make the playoffs in each of those seasons. Tocchet has already been part of the Coyotes? coaching staff, as he was an assistant there during the 2005-06 campaign. ?I think he?s an invaluable part of our staff,? Sullivan said of Tocchet, per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. ?I lean on him in a lot of ways. He?s such a great hockey mind. I think he?s a student of the game. He has a good analytical eye. ?He brings a lot of passion to what he does. I think our players have so much respect for him, not only as a coach, but his body of work as a player speaks for itself. He?s one of the all-time warriors of the game. Not only was he tough in the true sense of the word, he was a guy that could score goals and play with elite players.? The ?Yotes have been searching for a new head coach since deciding to part ways with Dave Tippett exactly two weeks ago. (PHT)
Avs hire two new coaches... Ray Bennett?as an assistant coach to Jared Bednar, and?Jussi Parkkila?as goaltending coach.
The Columbus Blue Jackets signed John Tortorella to a one-year contract extension that takes him through the 2018-19 season. Torts is one of the best in the bizz...
Let's see babbs earn that $8M per, this will be the real test of his worth, bring the leafs out of this slump. Teh phil, is teh failure, so far in sabreland, how about jim schoenfield, why not? What's the worst that can happen, he calls the ref a fat pig? Gerrard Gallant earning his stripes in vegas, maybe a playoff run for real.
skinny, I wonder if you post some shit just to stir the pot, or if WGR is your source. Regardless, it's ridiculous to think Housley is the current problem in Buffalo. We all knew it would take time to get the team to execute his uptempo system consistently. Of course we wanted to see s better start. There are no concerns that we did know about in the preseason. Housley is not on the hot seat.
I said, "so far", never said he was on the hotseat. It's not too early to have a conversation though.
2015 sabres had 35 wins 2016 sabres had 33 wins They can't do worse than 33 this year, housley has rope until january.
