tom renney did a great job with the det pp unit this year. it helps if you don't have crap on the rear-end. wouldn't surprise me if he was chosen for the sabre nation. damn dan, i can still hear you singing that chant :)

It's a good day to be PC.
I think he'll land a very nice gig where he doesn't have to worry about drafting and some franchise will be better off for it. If FLA gets smart they snag him now. He can time and price pretty well (Many will disagree with me there, especially in Broonz nation) and FLA needs pricing and timing badly the next 18 months.

  5. i want more firings. i'm kinda disappointed so far. i want apoplectic owners and GMs losing it and running thru the offices with a fire axe.

come on, people!!! look what shanny did, he fired everyone. the bar is set high. jump, dammit!

I think we're owed a coach that throws the front office under the bus after he gets fired. Maybe Tippett will get canned and bring the fireworks.
I'm ready, I think the whole hockey world is ready.

Yeah, I was hoping that Teddy would entertain us, but all he said - and it was brief - was "thank you... thanks... thanks". There was a bit more verbiage but I cannot remember one word of it.

Lafontaine brought him im TM wasn't letting him in on any future plans or recent moves. I guess he knew he was out, he didn't just fold his cards, had the team going for all they had, which wasn't much.

I'm not putting this on TM. Certainly not much of it. Sure, PLF hired him, but TM was the one to remove the interim tag and sign him to an extension. Teddy is well known as a hard coach for the FO, and unlike many reputations, this one is based on established facts. Teddy does a lot to rub people the wrong way. TM was not getting meaningful updated player reports. In a normal org. he'd have been canned a lot sooner. Of course the Sabres are far from normal.

He managed to take a train wreck that actually added some good players in July, and managed worse team stats in the next. Why on earth would TM retain an asshole that was not showing progress?

The rift was obvious, both parties ignoring each other. The players don't have a bad word to say about him, hard for us to judge, behind the scenes is different. It could be they've targeted another coach and want to start new. Yeah, teddy doesn't fit in everywhere and not in these times, but for some reason the sabres seems to be a fit(J.A)

If you're the boss and one of your employees refuses to give straight answers then that's not a rift. It's dysfunctional. There's only one way to fix that. TM's boss can override him, but Terry Pegula chose not to. It's too early to know for sure if it'll help the team become a contender, but in a year and a half TM has brought in a lot of quality assets.

The Sabres don't owe TN a thing, (except for the rest of his contract). They do owe the fans, and it was a matter of organizational obligation to find a coach that can promulgate an appropriate system, and see that the players are progressing toward that. He also needs to provide the GM with input that will allow him to make appropriate trades.

I don't think we'll see TN behind an NHL bench again.

Pegula tried to bring back some of the nostalgia with patty and nolan, then TM came in he took over the ship. With all the coaches that will be available in the off-season and if the sabres win the lottery, they will then look good to a coach like babbs or maybe blysma, to TM these are better candidates than TN, and he wants everyone out there to know there's a spot available.

TM & TP are not going to ask me, but if they did, these are the coaching candidates I'd tell them to bring in for interviews are:
    - Dan Bylsma
    - Tony Granati
    - Todd McClennan (if available)
    - Jeff Blashill

Of the four, as it is now, I like them in this order: Blysma, Blashill, McClellen, Granato.

The circumstances for when Blysma stepped in for PIT are similar to BUF now, (including McEichel). They were more talented, (they did have young Crosby & Malkin). But especially if BUF drafts McDavid, there will be a lot of talent in Buffalo. The team was a mess at the time, yet Blysma got them to go something like 18-3 down the stretch. He's a players' coach, and after the abyss I think that's what Buffalo needs. He's my current first choice.

Blashill's coaching stock his shooting up. He's in Grand Rapids so is obviously familiar with a young roster. He could emerge as the front runner if he interviews well. (It should be noted that Pegula has recent experience interviewing coaches. If he wants someone the charm is turned on.)
If Babcock leaves DET then I don't think the Red Wings would permit anyone to interview Blashill. Meanwhile I am not high on Babs for the Sabres. I believe he favors vets, and he's not a players' coach - or at least that's my view.

If McClellen leaves SJ he may relish going to a team that's not dominated by vets. After Q, I think he may be one of the elite coaches in hockey.

Granato was a very good player that's been able to successfully transition to coaching. I think he's probably a great communicator, yet he's still maintained his playful flair. I think he'll be a good HC.

Richardson's name, (Binghamton Senators), is thrown around a lot by fans based on his relationship with TM. I usually hear that he won a championship, but he actually was an asst. when Bing. won the Calder. Since taking over Bing. has been pretty lackluster. I'll pass.

The winner of mcDavid will be huge, free agents will want to play there, a coach like babcock will want to coach there, total turnaround for any team that get's him, let's go leafs, two day's away.

Personally, I hope CBJ wins on Saturday. Although I have softened my stance and will not mind if Buffalo wins. McDavid would make the Sabres more attractive to Babs, (and any other coach and FA's). It's just that he's not that attractive to me. I just do not see him as the right fit for the Sabres.

I think there's at least a 50% chance he stays put. If the Leafs or SJ were to win then I think he'd be interested and perhaps a better fit. (I think the Leafs have further to go than Buffalo, even with McDavid. BUF has a serious lead in the blowing up. But, it is Toronto.)

In the likely event that new GM in BOS wants to go in another direction, then I think they'll be in serious contention for Babs. If they were to buck the 1:100 odds then he may not even command as much control as he'd ask for from other teams.

If Columbus gets McDavid the Atlantic will be in trouble. Johanson is already the best young C in the division.

  17. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

CLB has had a really bad habit of taking something they're really strong in and tearing it apart.
No question about Johansen's talent, but I'm still worried about all the off-the-ice stuff in terms of work ethic and conditioning.

  18. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

That Columbus roster is "the right" player or 2 from being very solid I think and I would call McDavid the right player. Johanson has been a real turd but he's a kid and some kids just act that way. if he keeps it up once he gets in to his mid 20s then i think there'll be reason for concern. i have the same thoughts for Seguin. Same went for P. Kane too. Both Kanes actually.
