Apparently the 5th round pick is our backup LG on the depth chart: Ja'Tyre Carter (G): Bio, News, Stats & more

He must really be having trouble to not be worse than Mustipher.

At this point he deserves some snaps in a real game.

It really does boggle the mind to look at.

Now, the fun part of the argument is how they're getting into their pass pro sets. Justin is clearly responsible for making the calls at the line, and I won't pretend to know what he's saying, but clearly no one is picking up the wide blitzer on the left side. I would argue that having Justin responsible for making the calls at the line is setting up to fail in the first place. Going forward, you need to block better, and you need someone on the line giving Fields help in determining assignments.

Agreed. The thing I dislike the most that JT doesn't harp on, is that Mustipher has pure la-de-dah fucking effort on that play. I might have to change my avatar until that asshat is benched.

That should be set to the right timestamp, but there a few minutes there where talks directly about Justin's time to pressure and then time to sack. It's not since the player doesn't play here. Skip to 13:44

While the eye test plus stats tell me this line sucks in pass pro, it is a valid point that there are a lot of times where he's just holding on to the ball, having happy feet, not trusting his decisions, and really looking for the big play when the check down is there. I like the gunslinger mentality, but he's being a "safe" gunslinger. A gun-shy gunslinger. Fucking maddening.

And to answer your tweet blang, everyone will point at Josh Allen, who had more support around him and really took off when he got more support.

I don't know though, on this Friday there is so much blame to go around for that travesty and Fields is not immune to blame.

QB Fields: Tired of Bears being 'almost there'

    There's an infographic there:

    NFL RANK
    Comp pct 54.8% Worst
    CPOE<< -10.7% 2nd worst
    Int pct 4.3% 2nd worst
    Off-target pct 24.4% Worst
    Sack pct 13.5% Worst
    Pressure pct 46.2% Worst

"Historically bad" fits the bill for both Fields AND the line.

What I like though about Justin, is similar to Mitch, I like them as people and there's no doubt they tried/are trying hard. Imagine for a second having to root for someone like Johnny Football or JaMarcus Russell, two of *many* examples of guys that just didn't give a shit about putting in the work.

BINGO, Justin gets it, even if his nuthuggers and Keyshawn fucking don't. It's good to see our QB is a professional and rather than excuses he just says, "I have to do better". Yep.

Our fanbase absolutely fucking kills me. "What did you expect? This team was going to be one of the worst". What I expect is to see progress. Latter half of the Vikings game is progress, showing individuals getting better even if it ultimately is a loss. Things to build on. It's like these people watch the game and look at the result, instead of all the plays they saw during the game. And I honestly expected to beat the terrible, terrible WA team.

But hey, at least after this Monday's game we won't be embarassed on national TV again this year.

Funny, what a difference a few weeks make. The Bears change the gameplan on Monday night vs. NE, and suddenly Justin looks competent.

Yes, the numbers aren't there, especially in the air, but his legs are there, and he IS making some throws. As Claypool gets up to speed, I think we're going to continue to see growth. Getsy is certainly attempting to mask our line problems, and he's been moderately successful in doing so.

    The recent good:
    1. Designed runs allowing him to get some chunk yardage.
    2. Designed options, where he has RBs to toss to, or keep
    3. He's being more confident and decisive in his throws. The clock is speeding up (though well short of where it needs to be).
    4. The fakes! Selling defenders.
    5. It looks like he's starting to diagnose the defensive looks, etc. If he can do this, it's something that Trubs could never do.

    The recent bad:
    1. He is still sailing some throws downfield, and this last game against Miami he did miss a screen again.
    2. There was that terrible decision in the Miami game to throw to the sideline which was intercepted, but it was called back on the offsetting penalties. Gotta be smarter.

    The "I'm concerned" stuff:
    1. He's done a good job of sliding, but there are many times he sticks the ball out when running down the sideline, and he does cut upfield sometimes that are going to set him up for some hits. He takes a big hit, we are in big trouble.

Overall, right now, being objective, the needle is pointing up. There's a reason he's no longer panned as much in national media, etc., they see the same things we do.

Needle is pointing way up. But 3 games in a row is not enough. So my biggest concern is consistency. The downfield accuracy is a problem but not alarming, part of me wants to blame the receivers for that. Tua's downfield accuracy sucked on Sunday but his non-crappy receivers were so open it was easy for them to adjust and come back to the throws..

The talent around Fields is no better (minus Claypool) than it was the first quarter of the season, yet Fields is way better. Why? Does this negate the arguments that very little was his fault early on? I can't wait to admit I'm wrong about him not being the guy but I can't do it yet. I need to see more.

I wouldn't negate anything, his timing and decision-making was still off, we all saw that. Getsy appears to have tailored the offense to better suit his skillset and/or the lack of one along the Oline and receivers and that appears to be the biggest reason for this resurgence. After 60 years of watching incompetent QB play from this team it's going to take more than three games to convince me otherwise. I love the progress this kid and this team have made offensively, but IMO it's still smoke and mirrors, and he still has a long way to go. Tell me why for the love of god can't he flip the football away before taking a sack out of bounds?
I do believe we found an OC, but according to the book of Halas he will soon be poached for a HC position, and they'll be back where they started.

Fields can still shoulder some of the blame for early on in the season. Part of it was that he wasn't taking care of the ball well at all. He has gotten noticeably better at that recently, tho i don't consider it consigned to history. He got lucky on one play versus the Dolphins where he made a bad decision it got picked and fortunately came back for a flag. Keep working.

But looking at it overall, i do think we have here a strong example of what happens when you put a player in a position to succeed. Usually I might think of that saying referring to surrounding him with better help at the right positions. But it big time also applies to things like Offensive philosophy, approach & game plan. Thats what's largely happened here imo. They're playing to his strengths with all the movement plays, they're playing away from weaknesses in pass blocking by frequently moving the launch point, stuff like that(i do have legit questions why it took till week 6-7 to develop some of this stuff when some of us were talking about exactly that in preseason!).

BWW was talking very early on about them never letting Fields get in a rhythm. I always looked at that in terms of the type of pass plays being called, but i see now it can apply to other things as well. Just getting his legs going, getting him outside the tackle box and being a little instinctive from there. Confidence is a funny thing and sometimes doesnt take much. Before you know he's getting to the end of his dropback planting the back foot and the ball's coming out on time. The timing and faith of those specific dropbacks/pass plays is still an area of improvement for me, but it has clearly gotten better the last few weeks.

Exactly why i was against hiring a defensive HC. Like the guys are talking about on the other thread, people can go from position coaches to HC's ridiculously quick these days. I really hope they can get at least a 2nd season out of Getsy, im not at all confident they will.

I like to think Getsy helped with that as well by incorporating more rub routes into his game plan to help create early separation.

Any update on Justin Field's shoulder injury from the Atlanta game? I've searched but I haven't found any conclusive yet.

  15. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

    According to ESPN's, Courtney Cronin, this was said;

"We will have an update on Wednesday," coach Matt Eberflus said. "We don't know what exactly it is, that's why we are going to take a look at it."

Looks like its a waiting game till Wednesday... Im hoping its not too serious, he's fun to watch.

(if anything pops-up sooner and I see it, Ill be sure to post it)

Yeah it’s not looking good. Getsy will probably get his wish to build his resume with Trevor Simien as his QB.

1- That is indeed one hell of a discrepancy. Thats basically coach speak from Coach Pussy Lips.

2- At this point, without knowing severity etc, i'd have no problem sitting Fields for a week and giving him a break. The bye can't come fast enough for Fields. But there's a problem in the way. I know we should take the long view with Fields bla bla bla, but im not ok with the Packers getting to play Trevor Symbiont. I've had to sit thru way WAY too many L's from those fucks to not want Fields playing in that game, even if he's not quite 100%. F the Packers.

3- Lets see Getsy do his job without Fields carrying his incompetent ass. Lets see this clown fuck of an O-Line give up the 8-10 a game they deserve to have on them without Fields bailing them out of 4-5sacks a game with his escapeability.

Well with 100% certainty we'd lose to the Peckers anyway, so if Fields is out at least now it will be more tolerable to lose with Simien.

The only thing different with Simien is maybe he will get the ball out faster. But hard to imagine him lasting too long while getting pummeled in the backfield constantly. I hope Getsy is unemployed on Black Monday.
