Exactly. Draft a mid round QB every year for 3-4years if you have to. Forgoing an impact player for a guy who might play in 3-4years, not a good. The only way this makes sense to me is if they trade Rodgers at some point.
Trading him costs as much as cutting him until he has two years left on his deal, so that would work with RT's timeline of moving on from Rodgers in year 3 for Jordan. But that also makes the assumption that Love has proven that he is the quarterback of the future for Green Bay, which means he has to have shown them something or Rodgers has to have regressed to where fans are screaming to move on. Again, I'm not saying it's not possible but where they took him combined with the circumstances around both Aaron and his contract, this feels more like a move to prepare for a slow progression of moving on from Rodgers.
@RTTRUTH It might be interesting to note for future discussions that it looks like maybe only two teams were interested in taking Love either late on day one or early on day two. Those two teams? The Packers and the Colts. Green Bay was apparently nervous that Indy was going to try and move into the back of the first to get him but it appears the Colts hadn't even made a call at that point.

It's 6 picks, but wouldn't recent Steelers history suggest that they are more willing to move up for a targeted player than down to stack picks? I could be wrong, but I have them marked for trending up rather than down.
I believe that it could be possible Tim. I believe that they have a certain RB on their mind or two. If one of them gets picked they pull the trigger to get the other.
It depends on how you are defining blind and if you are willing to ship Rodgers out prior to either a) seeing obvious decline that makes starting Love unavoidable, or b) having played Love enough to see what you have in him. We're discussing potential scenarios that may not play out for several seasons so the possibilities of what my happen are virtually endless. Everything from Aaron getting injured giving Love extended time to be assessed to Rodgers going back to elite form sticking Jordan on the bench for 3 straight seasons. My basic point is that the drafting of Love doesn't immediately make Rodgers expendable or signal that the front office and coaching staff intend to move on within two seasons no matter what the circumstances are. I think this provides them with opportunity to mold their passer for the future without being tied to any expedited time table.
I’d just like to point out that ironically if Rodgers wants to calm his nerves about his own job security he can only look to his own experiences. Because like I referenced prior, I can think of no example since his entry into the league where the incumbent starter got more than another season before the young buck stole the reigns. Irony...
Just seems like 2022 would be a natural jump off point in his deal. Save 25M cash / 22M off the cap. If healthy, you are probably going to get at least a first round pick, probably multiple picks in a trade.
One thing we're not considering is that MAYBE Rodgers went to management and said, "Hey guys, I think I have two more years in me and that's it." I know he has said something different publicly but that was two years ago when he was looking for a new deal.
