Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

Discussion in 'Pittsburgh Steelers' started by Steelroc74, Mar 24, 2013.

  1. If they trade down in the 1st into the 20s to get more picks elsewhere I'd be all for then snagging Cypien in the 1st.

Hey ny, were you going to do the draft competition thing over here since everyone has seemingly abandoned cBS? I believe it's on page 326 on the main thread over there

Hmm, well hopefully the Ravens trade up in the second round (or trade out of the first for more picks) and draft Cyprien.

Then again, at 32, it seems like there will be a lot of decent options for Baltimore at various positions. Cyprien, Minter, maybe a NT like Williams, some sure handed receivers, etc. The draft will be interesting.

But I just know I'm going to watch the whole thing only to hear "the Baltimore Ravens have traded pick #32 to ____"

The question is would Dallas take Cooper over Jones, I think he would. With Cooper off the board Jones makes sense. I will be attempting a 3 round mock very soon, this is not an easy task, but I'm up for it. I am going to be very mad if the Steelers take Jarvis Jones and the Bengals take Alec Ogletree and he becomes the better pro. I am not convinced Jones is the pick at 17, there will be some good OLB talent later on including Kashim Greene and Corey Lemonier among others. The one thing I see happening is that either the Vikings or Rams will trade out of round one with the team in the beginning of round two that missed out on QB, all trying to leap frog each other. I don't see Buffalo or the Jets trading with Belichick, all in the same Division. IF the Rams get their guy at 16, they can afford to move back into the 30's. Minnesota can also do the same, a good player will be there at 23,25, they can slide back to pick 39 or 41, whichever team tries to leapfrog the Cardinals. I think the Cardinals would be wise to take one of the 3 premier OT's, they keep going all in on QB's that don't work, don't invest a top 10 pick on a ???? get your plug and play LT and protect whoever you take in round 2, Nasib, Glennon, Bray, or Wilson. YOu know what pick would make the mose sense: Matt Scott in the 3rd.

  6. I know that SO much scrutiny gets put into the 1st round and that most of the posters here care much more about the value picks in round 4-7, as those are the diamonds in the rough. However, I have to say I am VERY surprised with so many mock drafts having the Steelers taking a Guard OR a WR in the 1st round!

I understand that the Steelers have spent high picks on their O-line recently (Decastro and Pouncey in the 1st and Gilbert and Adams in the 2nd) but I do not think that trend will continue. They also re-signed Ramon Foster and, while he isn't incredible, the other 4 should be able to step up and take care of everything.

At WR, I know Tavon Austin is a good player, but he is incredibly undersized and will never be the #1 receiver the Steelers need. At best, he becomes a slot receiver. Even further, the Rams are picking right in front of Pittsburgh and they need to replace Amendola. I have also seen Cordarrelle Patterson's name pop up a few times, but he is VERY raw.

I will almost guarantee the Steelers go Defense in the first, with Safety and Linebacker being primary needs. I can even see them going DL if one of the studs falls, but this team needs to get younger and faster on defense, while still giving the players a window to learn it effectively.

    Hey you guys,

Listen, I haven't gone back to check all posts here, but have you guys been talking about a guy named
Stedman out of WVU. This article has some really good stuff on him and although a team mate of Tavaris, he's singled out as an all around better receiver/fit for Steelers ... what do you think !

Projected for 2nd maybe makes it to 3rd round ...

    Indiana,

Good logic however I feel they need explosion on offense. Patterson, Austin give Haley a weapon, Eric Reid or Kasheem Greene in the second, then maybe Franklin is there in the 3rd. Again I agree with you but BPA could be O if they value the two WR or an OG over Jones, Ogletree, Vaccaro.

I would like Bailey in the 3rd. As long as the Defense was addressed in the first and second round. Then maybe O-line or RB in the 4th and 5th. My favorite Steelers is Hines Ward. I would like to have his replacement. Plus it seems that the kid is a worker without the attitude.

    www.steelersdepot.com

    enjoy,

    bb

    ps goes something like this:

    1) J.Cooper OG UNC
    2) Robert Woods WR USC
    3) TJ McDonald SS USC
    4) John Simon OLB Ohio St
    5) Kenjan Barner RB Oregin
    6a) Joe Kruger DE UTah
    6b) Michael Mauti ILB PSU
    7) Ryan Griffin QB Tulane

THis Ryan Griffin is somewhat interesting - need to go do some reseach....

  12. I saw that earlier and I still don't understand going guard in the 1st. I also REALLY dislike the idea of waiting until round 3 to address Safety. If you flip the two positionally, I am fine with everything else.

A lot of moves going on as far as QB's goes today, Bills signed Kolb, Raiders traded for Matt Flynn, and now Because of that signing I hear Carson Palmer is close to being traded to Arizona, if so Brucey better get a OL to protect him.

Here's a list of likely candidates the Steelers are looking at for round 1 who I find will be excellent picks.

    Jonathan Cooper
    Star Lotulelei
    Kenny Vaccaro
    Datone Jones
    Alec Ogletree

Any of these picks would be worthy of applause. All of them bring game-changing quality and/or great character. Notice how there isn't a single OLB on this list.

Unlikely, but great to dream about anyway:

    Ezekiel Ansah
    Chance Warmack
    Dion Jordan

Ansah and Jordan have too much upside to miss. Warmack is likely gone before we pick regardless.

    Likely, but with significant drawbacks:

    Barkevious Mingo
    Jarvis Jones
    Sheldon Richardson
    Tavon Austin
    Cordarrelle Patterson
    Damontre Moore

Mingo is an a$$hole. Will chase money later in his career. Is not good against the run.

Jones worked out poorly and has an injury to consider. Was great in college where he was only needed for four years tops.

    Richardson isn't a great fit for a 3-4.

Austin isn't the type of receiver this offense needs IMO. This class is deep at WR to boot. Same with Patterson.

Moore worked out poorly and is a selfish brat.

These players are "likely" but realistically are not being considered by Colbert. If one more mock gives us Jarvis Jones I will throw a fork through my roommate's eye.

With the exception of TJ McDonald, I like the depot mock draft. McDonald is too slow .
There are other players I would rather have throughout this draft but I could live these picks.

  18. Going off of that, I've seen stock way up on Arthur Brown and that some have him as early as the Giants #20. Are guys like him and Cypien moving into range at 17, or would it require a trade down to consider them?

Guys, really don't mean to belabor the point, but check out this video on Stedman Bailey... At about the 2:07 mark, if you don't think Hines Ward you aren't a Steeler fan ... what is up with Jackson getting all the press ?

You guys do this draft thing for a living, but am I wrong here ... ? Read article I supplied in earlier post and his stats are amazing, not just WVU but nationally !

as bb says ... enjoy .... the video.
