Stafford always seems to make a costly error in my opinion to cost the team the game, and we don’t have the greatest line right now. I seriously don’t like any of them, either because of money, age, or performance.

what do you guys think of Trask?

    Dak
    Rivers
    Stafford
    Garoppolo
    Matt Ryan

Those are the guys I assume will not end up being available to you next season, for conversations sake. Look at what happened to Cowboys when Dak got hurt. I think Jerry would go bankrupt to keep him.
Rivers I think is as close to retirement as Ben, maybe closer. I feel like at this point he’d give the Colts one more shot or he wouldn’t bother.
I just don’t think Lions are ready to move on from Stafford. He’s not as old as Ben/Rivers/Ryan and I think he’s got a couple prime years left.
Garoppolo I honestly believe is still wanted in SF. Could change. He’s a bit of an enigma. At this point I’d buy them moving on more in relation to his health than anything. But then, do you want him? His play overall isn’t bad, and it’s enough for a team with good defense/run game to win with.
Matt Ryan is probably the biggest question mark of the group for me. New GM/coach won’t have any attachment to him. He’s 36 next year and I’ve seen enough of him that even though I’m one of his biggest fans I still think he’s done. He’s the near-end Romo. Might not be an abundance of turnovers but they consistently seem to happen at the worst possible times. I don’t think if Ben is playing it would do you any good to move from him to Ryan. Especially if your OL isn’t a top 12 group.

Another reason I don’t like Stafford is he seems to get hurt a lot

not sure about Trask, he looked like Trash in the bowl game, yeah he didn’t have his receivers but still I expected a little better performance

I saw the way he played against Alabama in the SEC championship, even though he lost played pretty good. Only had 1 INT and 4-5 TD’s, Do we sour on Lawrence when he didn’t exactly play well against OSU? If he was without his receivers can you blame him? Baker lost to the Jets last week without his WR’s but also almost lost to our backup QB today.

Oh and hopefully Ben takes Fichtner with him. Not a fan.

I think Ben will play out his contract, and unfortunatley I see Fichtner being on staff one more year as well. Just because Ben's not going to learn a new system.

Supposedly Pouncey is leaning hard on retiring, so if he retires he's gone, Feiler is a UFA, Villaneuva is a UFA, Banner is a UFA. That will be damaging but might be a blessing in disguise, rebuild the line to be younger and more of a muller type line, and you need to re-establish the running game.

Hopefully Sarrett will be a goner.

I’m with you for most of this, however I am a little curious about what Sarrett could do with a young OL, one not set in their ways. Maybe nothing, but maybe nothing. If he has years left on his deal, get a mobile QB just in case it’s nothing ;)

Not sure if any of you are followers of SteelersDepot but there's a report out there that the Lione are close to hiring away Kevin Colbert from Pittsburgh, this would not be good!!
Especially during a rebuilding process within the next few years.

Also read that most of the coaches contracts are up in March. including Fichtner and Butler, if they were going to go in a different direction with a philosophy this would be the year to do it.

Hopefully they look outside the organization this time rather than promoting from within. One of the problems with both of these guys could be that they have been here as long as Tomlin.

Take BPA @ OL. RB, or TE.
Team missed Dupree more than Bush , couldn’t hold the edge. Team really misses Munchak they have guys who can pass block but can’t pancake people. Draft an Eart Mover. I
Like Najee Harris not sure about the shoulder. I like Trey Smith OT Tennessee. Like Brevin Jordan TE. Later round RB I
Like Trey Setmon Ohio State. Rat turds and Brown Stains out of playoffs :)

NYB, how the hell are ya? Hope all is well and healthy.

I agree they missed Dupree more than bush, but they have his replacement in Highsmith, they need Quality depth though and Cassius Marsh is not it. Time to move on from Ola as well, good on ST but that’s it. Though Spillane was adaquate at the start teams figured out he couldn’t cover that well, same for Vince. Spillane seems more of a Vince backup than a Bush backup. UG3 is injury prone.

I don’t think the Line can afford to be one or the other anymore, you have to be good all around. We can’t just have pass protectors anymore, I think Dotson is the first piece to the puzzle. Not sure what we have in Banner because of his injury, Chuks is just a pass protector and he got owned toward the end of the season, they might have a couple yrs left in Decastro but he’s not playing to that level anymore, everyone else either is old and needs to retire, a UFA or isn’t any good.

Also like Sermon as well, I also like the TE from OSU Jeremy Ruckert, I think he is an underutilized TE, he was awesome against Clemson!

I was curious because I was seeing different listings on different sites. So I looked it up and it turns out Ruckert decided he’s going back to school this year.

But I agree with you guys he looked intriguing

This Wisconsin Whitewater Dude Quinn Meinerz is pancaking people, trees, really intriguing as Pouncey’s replacement. Senior Bowl riser , he actually works out with the Watt brothers, Canadian Wilderness, wherever there’s something to hit. He’s Div III like Ali Marpet only better. He probably won’t be there end of round 3. My $.02 .

Thoughts on the Steelers going after Dak in 2022 if the cowboys dont lock him up?

  17. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

Assuming the cap continues it's pre-Covid trajectory (it's forecast to be around $227.5M) the Steelers currently have the highest 2022 cap space in the NFL at $171.6M so, on the surface, it appears you could afford him. However . . . that cap space is somewhat misleading as you only have 17 players under contract for 2022 and three of those 17 are RB's.

  18. Jeanquev Legend Steelers

That number (17) will grow some as they restructure some contracts plus this years rookie crop. Of course that could lower the cap space some but not to much.

  19. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

I think it’s fair to say the top 3 needs are OT, OC, and RB. Followed by CB, ILB, TE. I think they’ll lose Vince Williams in FA the same way they lost L.J. Fort. And either Nelson or Haden will be a cap casualty. They need depth at OLB too. I think 2022 they look at DL since Heyward was drafted the year after Pouncey. My $ .02
