And Then Along Came Jones, Slow-runnin' Jones

As it turns out Jarvis Jones was just slow enough.

The 4.9 40-yard dash Jones ran at his pro day got Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert excited.

That unsightly number suggested some teams might back off and the Georgia outside linebacker might fall to the Steelers at No. 17 overall in the first round of the NFL
    Draft after all.

Jones hadn?t run at the scouting combine and ?we didn?t talk to Jarvis at the combine,? Colbert confirmed. ?When he ran the 4.9 the first thing I did was talk to his
agent and set up the visit.?

Jones had pretty much sacked everything in sight the past two seasons while playing in the monster SEC.

And at that visit the Steelers learned Jones is also a Steelers? kind of guy.

?He plays the game with a certain disposition we value, with a demeanor we value,? head coach Mike Tomlin said. ?He?ll fit in with our guys.?

And the Steelers didn?t even have to trade up to get him.

They watched in Round One as three OLB candidates went off the board in the first six picks, including LSU?s Barkevious Mingo, a player the Steelers would have taken over Jones.

But in the end they were more than happy to settle for what they got.

?Very, very pleased,? Colbert assessed. ?We?re honored to have this guy join our team.

    ?We?re really excited.?

The departure of James Harrison suddenly doesn?t hurt nearly as much.

The OLBs drop into Zones, they don't cover man to man.

  3. What I dont get is Dallas falls from 18 to 31 and only gets a 3rd rounder but NE gets 2, 3 and 4...crazy

I had Patterson as the 27th BPA, he went 29, not bad, I'm getting the hang of this, and I did not buy all of the hype this year. Got Richardson over Floyd and Hopkins as the 2nd WR.

  5. Ogletree. This could end up being a great pick for them.

You are truly impossible. You expect every pick to be perfect. You take hindsight and treat it as though they should have been able to see it all along! Nobody, not even you, thought Mendenhall wasn't the BPA. Hood, Heyward and Sweed were all lauded as great picks! And, btw, the only one that was a bust, to me, was Sweed. The jury is still out on Hood and Heyward, but of course, you want to crucify them now.

Who would you have taken at 17?

  8. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

I think Hoodie had naked video of Goodell and Frazier.

Technically stopper the Patriots dropped 23 spots and only picked up a 3rd, 4th and 7th. Not terrible for the Vikings. I just don't like giving him a handful of picks at any spot.

  10. And when we play cover 3 that is the ZONE the OLB has when he isn't rushing.

  11. Beach, now I have to worry bout Balt w Teo...give me a hint. lol

Nothing official but I'm hearing it's not Teo.

I have Man Tits at 45, I like that guess.

  14. Did I read that right, Pitt had Mingo higher than Jones...I dont see it.

  15. Umm, point of order: I hated the Mendenhall pick and took flak for being the only guy fighting that battle that day.
