  1. Wow a trade up for Reid? Hell make a bold move and trade up for Derwin....I have said he will b in the same mold as Troy

I don't see that comparison at all.

Leighton Vander Esch or Rashaan Evans if they are still there. If they are gone, I would like to see them take Guice, a CB, or S.

  4. Why he can play in the box, cover slot WRs and blitz from anywhere on the field

He doesn't have the instincts that Troy had. His coverage skills will have to improve drastically before it's an accurate comparison. Troy attacked runners in the lane like a heat seeking missile while Derwin has a penchant for sitting back and waiting for the play to come to his level.

James disrupts receivers with his physical frame and he is an outstanding edge rusher from the position. The rest of his game being something like Troy's is pure projection that either isn't backed up on the film or has only been shown in flashes.

  6. I believe he let up the least comp % out of all safeties and he hits like a freak train...check it out

I can offer you a highlight reel from Tim Dwight if you like?

    Highlight reels are just that.

Honest question - In your opinion, does Derwin James possess the same instincts that Troy Polamalu did coming out of U.S.C.?

I'm around. I read everything posted, but I don't really post often. I personally like Sony Michel a ton. Reminds me a lot of Bell as far as his skill set.

Loved watching Troy run through the A gap and just blow up a guard. He was giving up 75lbs and didn't care.

That's part of what I see with Troy that's missing from Derwin's game. Troy was intense on every down, even in a situation where he was at a disadvantage (like what you described). James is more apt to let the play evolve around him then try to jump in when he has the advantage.

I think Michel is a first round talent that probably fall to the mid second. He has a 3 down skill set and would be a really nice replacement if the Steelers fail to get a deal done with Bell.

  13. He was handcuffed at FSU....if he was able to freelance like Troy I expect a better player

  14. How bout this at 1:25 mark

    Tim,
My gut says why are you tagging Bell if you’re going to draft Guice ? Unless they pull the tag it makes sense. Rudolph is another good choice but with #7 still on the roster why go QB this early? Reid I like and end of second I like Lorenzo Carter, later on take either O’Donnel from Clemson or Jefferson from Texas. At some point a justin Watson will be their target. His 3 cone drill , size, and speed, well you can’t coach that. Re moving up: Don’t see it with that huge gap from late 3rd to middle 5th.

Poor RT with bad footwork got hit while off balance led to that and he missed the tackle which in the pros would've been a big play. I wouldn't be mad if that were the pick, but he's not the 2nd coming of Troy Polamalu. Polamalu was a special player, the ball didn't hit the turf very often if he got hands on the ball, and in big moments he stood tall. Did James? Or did he disappear? Genuinely asking, I didn't watch any Florida State games.

That still doesn't answer the question. It's just a yes or no - In your opinion, does Derwin James possess the same instincts that Troy Polamalu did coming out of U.S.C.?

I think the interest in Guice is real, but I'm starting to doubt he makes it into a range where Pitt can select him.

With Rudolph, it may be a case of Tomlin looking to be prepared in the event that Ben may retire at the end of this season. It would give Mike his guy immediately to lead what would be his (Tomlin's) offense for, in a practical sense, the first time.

If you have Reid at the bottom of the second is it safe to assume you have some safeties ranked above him? I'd be interested in reading your thoughts on that.

If there is a move up I'm assuming that future resources or potentially a player would be in the mix, but I agree that they have a tougher path to negotiate considering their draft positioning in 2018.

What do you think about the CB position for Pitt currently on the roster?
