Really don't know enough about Sutton to say. I don't know as much about mid and later players as I have in previous years.

For pick 105, maybe ILB from LSU? I'm still interested in the TE from Mich and RB from Okla. Maybe a more local product...

    And the pick is in---

James Connor--- they did go local!

I like the pick. They needed a backup RB.

    Love it.

Two defensive guys-- OLB and CB; two offensive guys-- WR and RB.

For rounds 4-7, I'm going to be looking closely at players who were brought in for visits.

Time for bed-- happy draft, everyone.

    And James Connor.

Even though the names in my mind were slightly different, they did what I thought they needed to do with three of their four picks. With Connor? I would have rather had Samaje Perine, straight up. Connor has no burst and I think he would be better as a short-yardage back than as a speller, which is what I thought the Steelers needed. Somehow, I really hope the Steelers saw Connor and liked him better than Perine objectively, because I'll riot if I find out they only drafted him for his incredible story as a local kid.

Obviously, I really want Connor to prove me wrong, but all I see is someone who can pick up the occasional 3rd and short. The third round is still too soon to draft someone who would exclusively fill that role, so I'm really hoping the Steelers know something I don't and can make him a legitimate speller.

    Agree with Demo on Sutton.

I too wanted Samaje Perine with this pick. Hopefully Connor changes my opinion.

James Conner sounds pretty special ..... exciting story beating cancer. He looks good on film too: great instincts, follows blocks well and shows some breakaway speed. Conner's 40 time was essentially same as Perine at around 4.65. However, to me it appears on film that once Conner finds his 2nd gear before the second part of the 40 he explodes (would be interesting to see speed comparisons in the last 20 of a 40 and see where he ranks). As far as size, weight, 40 speed, instincts, and patience he is like a mini-LeVeon Bell and he has obviously turned out well.

    Found this online about Conner:

Yes - Explosive Lower Body Strength Score: 4 or higher
100% of Multiple All-Pro and Pro Bowl RBs since 1999 had at least a score of 4 on the explosive lower body strength score

Yes - Speed Score: 32.4 or higher

    Very disappointing
All 4 picks have HUGE question marks behind them.
I get the Tj Watt pick but the rest was just waisted which in a year the Steelers actually an extra 3rd round and this draft was loaded with Defensive talent the Steelers dod nothing to help themselves.
    Sorry Mr Rooney

How is Carl Lawson still available? He must have MAJOR medical flags to have lasted this long with nobody taking him. Guy was projected as an early/mid second rounder, one I was merely HOPING would be available to Pitt late. I know they showed interest and had him in for a visit.

    Strange.

Art Rooney was just on a local radio show. He said the Steelers might be looking for a TE, OL, DL, QB today. We will see.

Lawson just went to the Bengals

Almost time for the Steelers' first day-3 pick.

They've gone D, O, D, O-- maybe time for defense again? However, some of the more interesting options available are on offense.

    The pick is in--

    QB Joshua Dobbs, Tenn.

2 pre-draft visitors in Dobbs and Conner. We had Swanny as the Vp of football personnel at USC.

    Joshua Dobbs:

Not a fan - he will be a successful NFL backup but a loser starter imo

Cannot be inaccurate and have bad footwork in NFL ..... this kid no just no.....destined to have as many picks as td passes in the NFL .... at least he can score with his feet some too

I'm officially disliking our draft overall so far which means it must be pretty good

Tech, I totally disagree with you. I am a Vols fan and have been watching Dobbs the last three years, and I would say he's more from the Dak Presott mold and you will be pleasantly surprised. He was not helped by his O line at Tennessee, and he often had to make chicken salad out of chicken s#!t (sound familiar?). He is a super smart dude, great leader, great locker room guy, you are lucky to have him and I think he is going to have a better career than all the QBs taken ahead of him. Also, you got a steal in Cam Sutton. He could have opted to come out after his Junior year, and he would have been a second or third rounder then, but a freak injury held him back his senior year. He was a beast of a punt returner, solid coverage guy and a great football IQ.

  20. I don't get what the steelers are doing? Nothing against juju but seriously how many WR's do we need. I'm so p1ssed they didn't trade up for awuzie or even obi.

The frigging cowboys took the two cbs I really wanted but Sutton is a great fit.

Connor was taken a round or two early and there are much better backs available imo.

Dobbs is the worst pick of them all. Why waste a pick on a qb who is never gonna be a starter in this league. We have jones as backup and when Ben eventually retires we will address the qb early in the draft.

lets hope we find some gems late in the draft.
