It's because Collins can't tackle a RB so the DB's had to, but only the fist 7 games till Collins was traded.

I'm not trying to win, breed, I just don't think that Collins is the right player. Some of your other picks would look good in black and gold, but I also don't see the team actually forking out the money for a top tier OLB.

Having a wish list for free agency is fine, but being disappointed when the team follows their usual path is something I hope you avoid.

I completely agree with you that an OLB has to be a priority this offseason whether Harrison retires or not. I'm just not on the Jamie Collins train...at all! Sorry.

You said he's no good against the run.

This what I saw coming out of college
Collins enrolled in the University of Southern Mississippi, and played for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles football team from 2009 to 2012. He played defensive back, defensive end and linebacker. During his college career, he compiled 314 tackles, 21 quarterback sacks, three interceptions and three touchdowns. He was a first-team All-Conference USA selection following his senior season in 2012.

It don't matter Tomlin likely thinks like you. He takes ILB in the first 1st round before olb because they're more important

No I didn't. Jean said that. All I said was using tackle stats to say he's good against the run is misguided. Tackles are the least useful stat in football in my opinion.

To your last point...I don't think Tomlin values ILB over OLB, but I do think that the team tends to take the best available player in the first round of the draft. I mean, they have spent just as many first round picks on OLBs in Tomlin's career as they have on ILBs (2 for both). They have certainly drafted more OLB prospects in the top 3 rounds than they have ILB prospects in his career.

OLBs drafted in first 3 rounds since 2007:

    Lamarr Woodley - 2nd round 2007
    Bruce Davis - 3rd round 2008
    Jason Worilds - 2nd round 2010
    Jarvis Jones - 1st round 2012
    Bud Dupree - 1st round 2015

ILBs drafted in first 3 rounds since 2007:

    Lawrence Timmons - 1st round 2007
    Sean Spence - 3rd round 2012
    Ryan Shazier - 1st round 2014

Now, they've had arguably more success with the ILBs as Timmons, Shazier and Spence are all talented players who have contributed to this team.

Bruce Davis was a bust and Jarvis Jones was a pretty big disappointment. Worilds was a good player who retired early. Woodley was an excellent player who got fat and fell apart. Dupree is still a question mark but has looked pretty good here lately.

It took 7 of his first 10 years to finally take an OLB in the 1st round.
That's not solidifying the most important LB spot in the Steelers defense.

Geez breed, why didn't you say Collins played DB in college? Hell, there's your strong safety! Put Shazier at free safety and let Vince Williams play beside Timmons. Mike Mitchell would be a good #2 safety and hopefully Sean Davis can continue to improve in the slot.

    At 6-3 250?
    It just shows his versatility.
How many can go from playing DB to DL and LB in between?
Yous are just mad because he's better than any Tomlin has taken.
Heck hes probably top 3 in the NFL

You know what this leads to my friend... go back and redraft for the Steelers each of those years and tell us who you think they should have drafted. Don't you think if there was a 1st round OLB available they would have drafted one? There was a time when the OL was so bad they had to spend a lot of picks just to keep Ben alive, don't forget that part.

And yes, if Collins can play DB at 250 let him do it. If not, he can drop 25-30 pounds and then make the move. He would probably be better at it than Shazier since he played that position already.

I remember the OL problem but instead they took Z. Hood, Mendenhall ect.
Even Cowher, I was pissed when he took S.Holmes.

That's why I think he gets $15 million per year on his next contract.

    You serious??

Tomlin had his starters in place early in his career. Harrison and Woodley should have been the bookends for years with Worilds drafted to be the backup and eventual replacement to an aging Harrison. Then Woodley kept getting hurt so Worilds took his spot. Then they drafted Jarvis Jones to replace Harrison and pair with Worilds. Then Worilds retired out of the blue after the 2014 season and what did they do? Drafted Bud Dupree in 2015!

How on God's green Earth can you imply that Tomlin ignored the position?? He spent 5 premium picks on OLBs, 4 of them in the first two rounds in his career! No other defensive position received that much attention during his 10 years with the team!

  12. rarebreedsj Franchise Player Steelers

Obviously he was bad at it. Heck he let Harrison go

I'm just glad the defense has continued to improve while working in 3 rookie starters. I think the Steelers have the best defense remaining the playoffs, but they've got to go out and prove it on Sunday.

I also think they have the best RB and OL remaining in the playoffs, but perhaps the 4th best QB. This season has been so crazy....and fun.

That always depends on which metric you use. The normal rankings are based on yards, which is a meaningless stat. I prefer points allowed, where the Steelers rank 10th. New England is #1, Green Bay #21, and Atlanta #27

I'm not gonna argue with THAT, but don't say he wasn't trying! Haha.

Don't get me wrong, I think making Harrison a full time player was certainly a factor in their improvement over the second half of the season, but it certainly wasn't the only factor. I think the development of Burns, Davis and Hargrave were more significant. The return of Dupree really helped. Most of all, I think Tuitt becoming what we thought he should be all year was a big key. He was really a non-factor the first half of the year but turned it on bigtime after Heyward got hurt.

Patriots vs rush first 8 games with collins: 813 yards or 101.63 game
Patriots vs rush last 8 games without collins: 604 or 75.5 yards a game.

You want to use tackles to show he is good vs the run where there are stats to suggest they were better vs the rush without him.
