Watson is a junior. Is he coming out early this year? Kiper has the N.C. Tarheels QB rated #1, preseason. Another draft listing has Watson as #1......

He's coming out. Nothing left to prove in college. He will be a 1st round pick and could possibly be taken #1 overall.
The Browns have been hammered for trading a pick that could have landed Wentz.

Meh . . . We're used to being hammered over the draft. However, does anyone really think that Wentz could have succeeded in Cleveland with the surrounding roster? Big Ben himself would have failed in Cleveland this past year. Wentz would have been pummeled behind that make shift O-line just like the five QB's that did start were.

Well, you know Cleveland better than I do so...

I started a thread trying to lore more posters to come to this thread and help with this year draft.

Lot of holes for the Browns if they take any QB at #1 it would be a mistake. As pointed out they need help on the line before they bring in a QB.

I think they have 2 1st round picks again but building the trenches is the right thing to do if that's where you're weakest

I think they also have a ton of cap space

I'm sure if you kissed Jackal's ass he would be more than willing to roll up his sleeves, flex his guns and share his wealth of knowledge with you.

Wow! I thought we ended that? :(

Watson is coming out........A lot of people on ESPN and guests on Mike & Mike think the Browns will grab him with the 1st pick. If they do, I wouldn't start him right away. The Browns need to get some guys up front and a bit of talent for him, imo......

Sit him for about 10 seasons, then maybe the Browns will have some talent on the roster.

Even though we'll be in great need of an OLB, not anyone would do. Aside from injury histories or off-field problems, we can't have someone on the right side who is light in the pants and who wouldn't hold up well against the run.

Players who currently (pre-Combine and all that bull) would not work IMO:

Takkarist McKinley - Spindly frame, almost no growth potential at 258 pounds, not a strength player
Carl Lawson - Simply bad at setting the edge and playing the run; only reason he's being considered by many as a first-rounder is because of talented, high-potential pass-rushing skills, as he also has a long injury history
Ryan Anderson - This should be obvious to anyone who is familiar with Anderson, but he was arrested about a year ago for assault and was never a standout on Alabama's loaded roster anyway

  13. I'm all in on selecting an olb in the first round if the value is there. What do you think of Joe Mathis? There was an article about him on behind the steel curtain. Not saying he is or will be a first round guy but seems like a good fit.

Early indications also suggest the steelers will get a 5th round compensatory pick this year from losing kelvin beachum.

I'd pull my hair out if we waited until the third day to pick an OLB, but Joe Mathis would make for a good flyer pick if we also pick someone else earlier. He fell when he sustained a season-ending foot injury, his recovery from which will be the focal point of his Combine and Pro Day meetings.

  15. Me too. I get the feeling they want another pass rusher tho. If we get elite bookends this defence will be a force. Mathis wasn't a guy I had seen much of but after reading the article he has good traits and seems a good fit, no idea what round he goes tho?

NFLDraftScout has him at round 6-7. At that point we could expect him to go at any point on the third day.

If Rueban Foster ( Alabama ) is there late in the 1st, do the Steelers take him?
They have Timmons if he rsigns. Shazier, Williams but Foster, though a little lite, is a beast at LB as is Tim Williams.

They also have the incomparable Dirty Red. I'd be disappointed if they went ILB in the first round. I'm hoping for DL, OLB, TE or maybe even McCafferty to pair with Bell.

Agreed! I felt the same way when they took both Timmons and Shazier.
There were bigger needs elsewhere with OLB being one and is still one.
They gambled on Woodley in the 2nd and it worked out for a few years but it's still a problem. If

I they draft Foster it will help the salary cap because it makes Timmons expendable. Shazier and Williams can do a decent job till Foster gets up to speed.
Timmons will get decent money on the FA market. So everyone wins.
