    Brandon Williams or Poe
Also, Jamie Collins would be a great addition. Especially because I doubt Harrison will be back.
Sheard would be an improvement over whats left after Harrison leaves.
I still have high hopes for Dupree though.

IMO, in a 3-4 defensive line it starts with the NT. Much like the Center on the offensive line.
That's where the Steelers should restart or go full 4-3. This stupid hybrid scheme doesn't work.

When a team plays a 3-4, it is always the job of the front 3 to clog things up so the linebackers can make the tackles from sideline to sideline, or blitz also.....That is why teams play the 3-4. To confuse the opposing QB as to which linebacker is going to blitz......

Green now has a knee injury.
They don't think he will miss this Sundays game but...

Thanks for the page, Todd. Pretty busy at work.
3-4 is the best defense in both the NFL and college because there is so much passing. Not only can you disguise which LB is blitzing, but you can cover passes to the RBs better. I agree with the first part. The most important part of the defense is the DL, and the most important part of the DL is the NT. Most underestimated what a truly great player Casey Hampton was.

I hope you have more free time on your hands after Christmas. I've never really been a part of NY's thread like you have but I've been following it a long time enjoying everybody's thoughts and I'd like to be a part of it this year.

I've always enjoyed reading the content and periodically chiming in. Even back in the SeeBS days.

This series of posts is more fun than anything, but I thought I'd go back and look at the biggest steals of every draft going back to 1999 (the year the Browns returned to the NFL). When draft season rolls around, I may combine them all into one giant thread. If nothing else, it should remind us all that there are gems hidden anywhere in the draft and we can't sleep on any pick or phone it in.

I'll be doing one post per draft per year, so I can catch my breath. Historical research is pretty tiring.

    1999
    Brian Waters, Undrafted

Waters made his name playing guard for the Chiefs, but was signed as a free agent tight end/fullback out of North Texas by the Cowboys. It's funny to think that in North Texas, Waters, who hovered at around 320 pounds during his career in the NFL, caught 86 passes for 975 yards and nine touchdowns. He also played defensive end for a season and recorded 45 tackles and five sacks.

The Cowboys released Waters during training camp in 1999 while playing him as a fullback/tight end. The Chiefs signed him as a free agent during the 2000 offseason and sent him to play with the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe with the plan of converting him to center, thus starting his career toward being one of the best offensive linemen of his time.

Waters went to five Pro Bowls in eleven years with the Chiefs and one in two years with the Patriots. He was a First-Team All-Pro in 2004, a season in which the Chiefs boasted the top-ranked offense and allowed three different running backs to rush for 500+ yards and 8+ TDs while also breaking the NFL record for rushing touchdowns scored in a game with eight on October 24, 2004 versus the Atlanta Falcons. He was voted Second-Team All-Pro in 2005 following a season in which running back Larry Johnson rushed for 1,750 yards and a staggering 20 touchdowns while starting only nine games. He was awarded the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2009.

Waters technically played only one season for the Patriots before demanding to play for a team close to his family in Texas. He was released from the team and retired following a single season signed with his first NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Waters is a future Hall of Famer.

It's a bit early but mock drafts are starting to come out.
Where do we want the Steelers to go?
I would love to see DE Myles Garrett drop but doubt that happens.
Tim Williams OLB Alabama probably gone too.
Id also like to see a NT this year.
Chris Worley has great stats and size at 6-6 302.
RB maybe? I'd be surprised if the Steelers will be able to bring Bell back.
Delvin Cook will be gone and he's the closes to Bell coming out.
Christian McCaffrey he's the next best IMO. He has a 1st round grade on him.
QB maybe? Most in here think it's too early but I dont. If you miss, you still have time to try again.
I like Chad Kelly but I think he had some off field troubles.
Unfortunately this is a weak class for QB's so...
    What's everyone else think?

Let's figure out who is leaving. Does anyone have a scoop on what will happen with Bell? That is obviously question #1.

Will Harrison play one more year?

  18. Smurph Guest

Despite waiting 10 weeks it looks like they are getting what they hoped for with L. Green, so the TE situation looks solid.

  19. rarebreedsj Franchise Player Steelers

IMO, Harrison shouldnt impact draft or FA signing because if he comes back for one it would likely be just one.
Green missed practice again, although non injury related. He's missed so much it makes wonder about his commitment especially when you have another player with broken fingers not missing any time.

  20. Smurph Guest

Tomlin has been very positive about Green's attitude and effort to get back on the field. It's taken longer than hoped for, but I don't think that's from a lack of commitment on his part.
