I don't care what they call the defense as long as pass rushers can drop into coverage. That's an important part of disguising who's rushing the passer and opens up rush lanes for our DTs, ILBs and DBs.

I read where Von Miller dropped into coverage 10 times on Sunday. There aren't many better pass rushers than Miller but if you line him up in the same spot every down and tell him to rush the passer he can be neutralized. Disguising the rush is as important as who is rushing.

Yes! Tuitt and Heyward were fantastic this season but it's risky to ride two guys as heavily as the Steelers relied on them this season. Heyward played more snaps than any 3-4 D lineman in the NFL this season. I remember how excited Colbert was when Heyward fell to them. He said that they had Heyward rated as one of the top D lineman in that draft.

Tuitt was a steal in the second round.

Kevin Dodd, Clemson DT is a player that might shoot up the draft boards. If he doesn't I could see him being a player the Steelers snap up at 25. Reminds me of Tuitt only quicker.

The Steelers need more DL help so no Im not angry if they go DL in the first round or even 1st and second. Heyward and Truit played a lot of snaps way more than they should have. Hewyard even said the DL needs help.

I agree. Cam Thomas is not an answer even as depth, and McCullers has not developed enough to this point. He may be a depth solution for a few years but right now the team doesn't trust him that much, so they should be looking for more help along the front.

I must say I will be a little upset, I don't think we need as much DL help as everyone claims, we have our main starters and the only spot I think it would be beneficial to look at would be NT, then McLendon can be a utility DE/NT with McCullers and the guy they drafted last year late in the rounds, then maybe pick up a FA DL, We also signed Lyons to a futures contract again.

I really think we need DB help.

There's so much unknown in the secondary.

I'm hearing this a pretty stacked draft defensively.

One guy that might be able to help us double dip in our depth chart is CB Cyrus Jones (not saying he's a 1st round option) who can also return punts for us, take that out of Brown's hands. You know how much trouble we've been having with fielding punts especially this year. It is definately something that I think the Steelers need to look hard at this year. We got lucky it didn't cost us more than what it could've this year.

So you dont think Heyward needs the help he is asking for? Interesting

So do you spend a 3rd or 4th round pick on another backup QB? Or do you stick with Landry Jones as the #3, assuming that Gradkowski returns as the #2?

I want Gradkowski back. We could have won more games with him as QB while Ben was out.

How many teams lost their kicker and their backup QB before the season even starts? Hard to believe how much impact that had on our season.

So kicker and quarterback in rounds 1 and 2?

I didn't say he didn't need help, but who needs more help our secondary or our Dline? I don't know about you, but it wasn't the DL that cost us games at times this year. I don't think another round 1 pick should be spent on a rotational guy. I'd be fine with round 2.

Watched some replay of the Senior Bowl practice last night. Commentators said the group of D Lineman in this draft is the deepest they have ever seen.

Pretty good odds that 3 QBs, maybe even 4 are selected before the Steelers pick at number 25. It's nice to have a franchise QB in place.

Are the Browns going to take a QB at number 2?

Yeah I don't know about that. Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt provided very little in the way of pass rush vs Denver. You can't play the number of snaps they play without your performance falling off at some point.

I was watching the Den / NE game late and the commentator made a comment on one of NE's final drives that they picked a good time to pass the ball because both Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware were getting a breather on the sideline. Pass rushers need a blow every now and then.

You can have the best secondary in the world if you cant get to the QB odds are he will shred your secondary. Was it Denvers secondary that beat the Patriots? or the fact they were able to pressure Brady with the DL. They sacked him 4 times and hit him another 19 times its why he missed a wide open Gronk on the two point conversion. Tuitt and Heyward played 91% and 89% of the snaps vs Denver in Denver how effective do you think they were toward the end of the game? Seattle and Denver both have good secondaries but because Ben had time he was able to shred them both. Get pressure up front and you can mask an average secondary. Even better get pressure up front rushing only 3 or 4 guys and drop 7 to 8 in to pass coverage and you can do a whole lot of things. If a stud DL is there you take the stud not the 5th, 6th or even worse best DB just because everyone thinks the secondary needs help.

Told right now the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots & KC Chiefs like Braxton Miller/WR/Ohio State in round two.

A pass rush never materializes against Brady or any quick pass offense when the DBs are playing 7 plus yards off the LOS. No pass rush is going to get consistent pressure against Brady without taking the quick short passes away. The Broncos did a fantastic job of taking away those short quick passes and getting pressure on Brady. It goes hand in hand.

The Steelers need help in both places along with some scheme adjustments.

Listened to the end of season interview with Rooney Jr today. He mentioned that being near the bottom of the NFL in pass defense is an issue and it needs to be addressed.

Good then you know he said Cortez Allen will be given a shot to prove himself and that we drafted some guys last year who can help. He did add there is also the draft but in no way did he imply that mean they had to go DB in the first round.

Even if they draft a DB, there is no way he would start next year and only maybe in his 2nd.
The Steelers are going to have to rely on who they have and hope for the best.
