I believe the Steelers had 8 last season as well

    Antonio Brown
    Marcus Wheaton
    Lance Moore
    DHB
    Martavis Bryant
Justin Brown (active the first 6 games then inactive for 8 of the last 10)

    On the Practice Squad
    CJ Goodwin
Derek Moye who did not remain on the practice squad all season but did start there.

8 seems to not be as far fetched as you would like to make it.

I can say this because of this, according to steelers.com

He played in 21 games total 14 in 2013 where he started 8, and 7 in 2014 in which he started 3 before he got injured, if jarvis was doing that good before he went out how come when he came back in game 14 he didn't get his starting spot back from Harrison. According to the website he had 2 sacks and a forced fumble before getting injured.

2014 (7-3/1-0): Jarvis Jones saw action in seven games with three starts during the regular season?also saw action in his postseason debut vs. Baltimore in the AFC Wild Card Game?activated from the team?s Reserve/Injured; Designated For Return List on December 6, 2014?returned to practice on November 24, 2014?placed on the team?s Reserve/Injured; Designated For Return List on September 23, 2014 due to a right wrist injury.

Could this be because he still isn't very good against the run??

It was pretty repeatedly reported that he hadn't fully regained the strength in his hand and wrist and that the coaches wanted to ease him back into the lineup. Not to mention that Harrison was playing pretty well. So, do you play the young guy coming off of major hand surgery or do you play the veteran that's on a roll?

I don't think there is any question that Jarvis Jones is the expected starter going into this season.

Joey Porter has made it known that he's going to limit the number of plays Harrison is on the field. It's the right thing to do but Jones is going to have to produce this season for that plan to work.

The Ravens had great success last season with a rotating Dumervil and Upshaw and occasionally McPhee. The Steelers ought to be able to keep Jones and Harrison fresh and productive.

That ^^^. If Jarvis doesn't have surgery he has the opportunity to grow within the defense and James Harrison is still retired.

And to add to what Mano said it's been widely reported that Jarvis' inability to lift weights for 10 weeks hurt his functional strength too. These guys spend months getting their bodies ready for the regular season. He lost all that when he got hurt. Not sure what's hard to understand about that?

Good Stuff Tim. Some of those drafts immediately stuck out to me for various reasons. '92 was Cowher's first draft and he laid the foundation for a great run in the 90s. '99 was the Aaron Smith draft as I'll always remember it. I realize they also got Porter in that draft but I'll go to my grave arguing Aaron Smith as a Top 5 3-4 DE of all-time. Very few guys did it better or longer than Aaron.

The '02 draft was the Keisel draft. Gotta be a Top 10 all-time 7th round pick. And the '09 draft will always be a contentious one among Steelers fans. Drafting last as the '08 SB champs I'm on record as saying based on what was available Colbert did a masterful job drafting 7 guys who are still active in the league 6 years later.

Going back and looking at how the Steelers have done over the 5 Worst Draft Classes Ever I think I'll take a bad draft class any day of the week. The Steelers appear to do good work when talent is scarce.

1978 I was a Junior in College, that seems like forever ago. What I think is pu$$y is all the horses that skip a race to be fresh for the Preakness. But American Pharoh took on anyone who would challenge and kicked total ass. In 1969 Majestic Prince had a bad foot but his douchebag owner forced him to run, he lost his only race in the Preakness and retired. I still hate that horse Arts & Letters for beating him, 46 years alter. I remember my dad and I watching it together and it was just a total gyp.

American Pharoah was 2 seconds off of Secratariats legendary time at the Belmont. Very impressive indeed just think he (Pharoah) did not get off to the greatest of starts (at least according to the announcers). Despite that he still went wire to wire and won it easily had he gotten off to a great start there would be a new track record.

    Name: Darron Lee

    School: Ohio State

    Position: Inside Linebacker

    Height: 6'2"

    Weight: 235

Summary: Lee is a key member of Ohio State's ferocious defense. He's a fast playmaker, known for his aggression and fiery temperament. A former college teammate of Ryan Shazier, Lee does now what Shazier excelled at doing in his time as a Buckeye, making him an ideal candidate for learning the 3-4 zone-blitz defense we use in Pittsburgh.

Lee's film shows a missile of a player who excels at blitzes. Despite playing as a linebacker, he recorded 16.5 TFL and 7.5 sacks during the 2014 season. Highly aggressive and ferocious. Compared to Ryan Shazier, a much more emotional player and not as cerebral. Despite this, Lee shows a lot of technical knowledge. He wraps up his tackles and displays keen understanding of coverage.

Before becoming an inside linebacker at Ohio State, Lee had no position, playing quarterback, cornerback, and safety in the past. He's a turnover machine, recording 2 interceptions and recovering 2 fumbles, returning both fumbles for touchdowns. Despite his experience playing on the back end, he's bigger than Shazier was at this respective time in their collegiate careers and is used much more often as a blitzer and run-stopper. He already has more interceptions than Shazier did in his entire time at Ohio State, but not nearly as many passes defensed (17 to 3).

The most obvious concern about Lee is his lack of experience. 2014 was his first full season at inside linebacker after redshirting all of 2013. No other weaknesses stand out, however, and he could very well end up going as a high first-round pick if he shows how much potential he has in 2015. He's already a late first-rounder on a star-studded Ohio State team.

There are no concerns whatsoever regarding Lee's football character, as he's extremely confident and motivated, even bordering on "cocky." He reportedly persisted on joining Ohio State's football program despite four rejections from Urban Meyer and had no problems bulking up to play inside linebacker and losing no speed or explosiveness in the process. The reason why he was so adamant on joining Ohio State was apparently because he felt, according to his mother, "They?re going to be so good. I?ve got to get on that team."

This fire translates to his off-field demeanor. Recently he voiced an anti-social media rant, ironically on Twitter, but it suggests he wouldn't be one of those players.

Steelers?: Technically, the Steelers will have a roster hole at ILB if Jordan Zumwalt fails to make the team. Sean Spence is a free agent and probably not a candidate for re-signing. That would leave three players at ILB: Lawrence Timmons, Shazier, and Vince Williams. For the future, Timmons is a young player for someone with eight years of NFL wear and tear, but he still has eight years of NFL wear and tear. We could see a successor in the mix sooner than we might think, even though ILBs have a longer shelf life than OLBs on this team's defense.

The Steelers need an unshakable confidence that spreads like a fire throughout the defense, and Lee carries that in spades. Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa scoffed when Lee declared with complete seriousness that he would take Shazier's place in the defense, but Lee did just that and did a fine job doing it.

The ways in which this kid could be used would make any defensive coordinator giddy.

Currently, Lee is a late first-round prospect. The Steelers are expected to select late in the first round of the draft next year. Lee falls right into their range right now. The danger is that Lee plays well enough to rise out of the Steelers' reach, which he can certainly do. The sky's the limit for this kid, so I do predict a rise in the draft for him, but he's very much worth noting nonetheless as one of my favorite linebacker prospects.

Today in Draft Prospects To Watch

    Name: Josh Doctson

    School: Texas Christian

    Position: Wide Receiver

    Height: 6'3"

    Weight: 193

Summary: Doctson is TCU's go-to receiver, leading the team in catches, yards, and touchdowns with 65, 1,018, and 11. He's an outstanding vertical receiver with the ability to leap over defenders and make eye-popping catches. There are numerous highlights of him making acrobatic catches look easy, perhaps the most notable being a one-handed game winning TD catch against Minnesota, photographed above. In it, he leapt about four feet over the head of the Minnesota defender and plucked the ball out of the air with one giant hand before coming down in bounds.

What's obvious about Doctson is that he's a touchdown machine and a major red-zone weapon. His QB trusts him to make the tough catches in big situations. Against Oklahoma State, Doctson had his biggest game to date with 7 catches for 225 yards. Always a big-play threat. Routinely catches passes away from his body.

Doctson started as a freshman at Wyoming and sat out the 2012 season after transferring to TCU. He doubled his production from 2013 to 2014.

While Doctson has incredible athleticism and flexibility, he needs to gain more body control for the NFL, as the aforementioned TD catch was incredible, but he only got one foot in-bounds. It's fair to question his straight-line speed as well, but most evaluators would agree that straight-line speed is perhaps the most overrated aspect of a great NFL receiver. He'll need to put weight on his thin frame, and one has to wonder how that would affect his play. Doctson broke his hand during spring practices in March.

Steelers?: Sammie Coates was just drafted one year after Martavis Bryant, who was drafted one year after Markus Wheaton. So? Darrius Heyward-Bey is the 4th or 5th receiver in 2015, and he was signed to another one-year deal. Well, he may not be back again, so the Steelers will have a roster hole at wide receiver. Also, consider if Sammie Coates pushes Wheaton. Wheaton could fall into the scrap heap completely in that case. We'd have to believe his days are numbered, then, with his rookie contract expiring after 2016.

In any case, Doctson is closer to Martavis Bryant than Markus Wheaton, just with more attention being paid to him by his own QB. What separates Doctson from Bryant is that he's used to being the featured receiver on his offense by now. Bryant still has never had that happen to him, playing with Sammy Watkins at Clemson and now with Antonio Brown in Pittsburgh. Doctson has experience with a larger route tree than Bryant and would be an asset on deep crossing routes and curl routes. I believe Bryant is more talented overall than Doctson, but Doctson has a mindset that Bryant never needed.

If the Steelers feel Ben deserves/needs another tall receiver, they might consider Doctson, who is currently a late 2nd-round pick. Where he could end up is a question mark. There's no doubt Doctson is good enough to sneak into the first round, but he could fall all the way to day 3 if he struggles to recover from his fractured hand.
