He should be able to tackle better than Dion Sanders did

Hopefully, he has the coverage and ball skills of Neon Deion. I was thinking about CBs tackling and had some terrible recollections of Cortez Allen last year....atrocious. That big fella didn't help much in run support or anything last year, but he'll bounce back big time.

    Isn't he listed as 177lb
I'm not against him just concerned they waisted another 2nd and 3rd round picks. Stone hand Sam will likely be another limas sweed.

As far as Safety I'm hoping Ggrod Holliman can make the team.

As with any rookie, he will be required to play ST. If he can't, he will not make the 53-man roster which would be horrible for a 2nd round pick.

    However:
He is highly rated and tackles well enough. Yes, durability might be a concern at 176 pounds but he's got the tools.

From what I have read, he just doesn't miss tackles. He is excellent in run support. Tackling isn't about size, its about willingness and technique and he, apparently, has both.

I have certainly had ALOT of arguments about Jimmy Smith over the years, but I don't recall ever having one about his height being a negative, that seems silly. I remember questioning his long speed. I remember question is press coverage ability. I remember saying I thought he was a late 1st round prospect, not a top 10 prospect that fell. I remember an extended argument about how he was beaten consistently in some games but his numbers looked good because the QB didn't throw in his direction...one of my more frustratingly poor choices on how to argue my point! *WALL* *WALL*

I think he's proven that he's an excellent NFL caliber starting CB...when healthy. I still believe that every one of my statements were true. He doesn't have elite speed, he isn't a great press corner and he wasn't a top 10 pick that fell, but he is a hell of a good football player.

As I was typing I do remember a conversation you had with beach that compared him to McAlister, but I don't remember the gist of that argument...sorry.

In all honesty, I'm fairly confident that that was the conversation. I'm pretty good at remembering some of the most.......odd topics/statements I've had to debate over the years because they stand out in absurdity either during the discussion or in hindsight:

    - Mendenhall better than Rice
    - Heyward just as good as Ngata because Ngata had one bad drive
    - London Fletcher career just as good as Ray Lewis
    - Wallace a better receiver than Boldin because he's faster
    - Kyle Orton would destroy the Ravens secondary (this one wasn't with either of you but another Steelers fan).
    - Torrey Smith better than Antonio Brown (this was a claim I made that was arguable at one point but proven terribly incorrect. I'm not exempt)

The height one was one of them but if it's not remembered then so be it, it did come at a time when many of us seemed to be arguing with each other just for the sake of it. There weren't really many good CBs over 6'1 heading into that season also, in history and I recall that being referenced too. But again, if it's not remembered then it's not remembered.

For a very brief moment in time, I thought that was a valid argument.

Both of those were arguments caused by you taking them out of context.

All AFC North Team thread talking about whether we wanted Boldin or Wallace as one of the starters and, considering the season Wallace had just had, I still think it was a valid argument. For that one season, I would have taken Wallace over Boldin. 12 months later, not so much, but that wasn't the discussion.

    Folks,

We can argue/discuss these new draft picks/UDFA till we are blue in the face.. He's to short, He's to slow, He sucks.. He's going to be a Pro Bowler.. But until we see them line up vs NFL level competition over a "period of time", we aren't going to know if they will make it at this level or not..

We hit on Buster Davis after watching very little of him in pre-season - labeled him a bust.. and he broke the bank.. I really missed on Beachum.. In Pre-season his first year - he looked lost, was getting beat consistently and just looked like a bust also.. Brownie surprised as a 6th round pick.. ..so... I knew B.Batch - nice story - wasn't going to cut it... as examples...

I'm going to wait to pass judgement on them till I see them vs NFL competition. Hopefully many of them compete for a spot on the 53 and some as starting material...

    enjoy,

Re: Rice vs Mendenhall. Nah, it was never true. At best you could have called them even. It was a post 2010 season discussion where the focus was the fact that Rice had less TDs because he was pulled in favor of McGahee at the goal line. A few months later and McGahee is gone and Rice gets goal line touches. It was a similar TD argument that I made in Smith vs Brown only I used career numbers at that time vs one season

Re: Heyward being as good as Ngata, maybe

Re: Fletcher being as good as Lewis, nope. That was my favorite because career numbers were presented at face value, and they were close. I then pointed out that Lewis' numbers per game were far better and the only reason the career numbers were close was because of something like 15 or more games missed and it was met with head in the sand.

I keep telling you, just because I don't accepted a twisted argument doesn't mean I took them out of context :p

This tape of him versus A&M is probably as complete a display of what Golson brings to the table as you will find short of just a series of highlights. You can see good coverage position and an ability to capitalize on mistakes. He actually does whiff on a couple tackle attempts, but at least he isn't bowled over.

Yessir, October of 2009 was a great month!

Seriously, there was never a moment that Mendenhall was better than Rice. Not one.

Good article on Steelers.com about Ron Hughes, their college scouting coordinator who is now retiring after 34 years. Draft discussions always boil down to "Tomlin/Colbert suck" or something like that, and the rest of the organization never gets any of the shared blame for failure, or shared credit for success.

Also note the small circle of NFL personnel. These guys all seem to know each other from one place or another, one time or another. Interesting read: http://www.steelers.com/news/articl...-retires/f28c0dad-9e11-4152-ad30-7db7d3612716

Ok, the way I read that in my head made me laugh out loud. Thankfully work is almost over and most people are gone

I see he was beat for a TD and the WR on another play fell down so he made the int.
Didn't see the run support though, he actually was pushed backward by a blocking WR which will happen alot at the next level.

    Don't get me wrong I hope he's another D.Green.

  17. LoveTheSteelers Franchise Player Steelers

Me too, that would be great. You won't find video of him in run support because that just isn't what they show when it comes to CBs. It won't take long to find out because he'll be featured prominently in the first preseason game.

Ravens vs Steelers p1$$ing contest needs a new venue. By the time 8 posts are quoted in a retort, i've lost all interest in the content. Let's move on and stick to the Steelers Draft and why Mel Kiper/ESPN Suck. *REF*

Saw that 2 Pitt players are projected early in the 2016 draft. Tyler Boyd WR middle of the first and James Conner RB back end of 1st - early 2nd.. If both come out - they will be jr coming out... I hope they both stay for their senior year.. that way they can play in the 2016 Pitt vs Penn State game (plus I have season tickets to Pitt :)

Tyler is talling then he looks - I think 6'2". Conner is a 250 lb beast with really good feet...

Looking forward to see it they stay or declare after this season.

    enjoy,

Early in the year I had a conversation with LAOJoe regarding this draft class and it's RBs.

Connor would have been my #1 back if he were eligible and had entered the draft.
