    From Steelers.com--

The 12 rookie free agents include, nine offensive and three defensive players:

Pittsburgh Steelers 2015 Rookie Free Agents
    Player Pos. Ht. Wt. College
    Cameron Clear TE 6-5 277 Texas A&M
    Nigel Crawford-Kinney DT 6-5 300 Saint Augustine's
Dominique Davis DE 6-5 285 Liberty
    Miles Dieffenbach G 6-3 303 Penn State
    Reese Dismukes G 6-3 296 Auburn
    B.J. Finney C 6-4 318 Kansas State

    Collin Rahrig G 6-2 285 Indiana
Eli Rogers WR 5-10 180 Louisville
Ross Scheuerman RB 6-0 204 Lafayette (Pa.)
    Kevin Whimpey T 6-5 295 Utah State

I note that Cameron Clear and Tyler Murphy were brought in for visits. Interestingly, we thought Murphy was brought in as QB. Apparently they're trying him out at WR.

And earlier, someone was joking about Kevin Whimpey....

Notice 2 Centers, guards. Actually on path to the draft, DJ and Baldly were taking both these players mid rounds to teams that needed a Center. I think they did rather well, but wish they had gone after Sean Hickey. The guy I also wanted was the RB John Crockett.

Third Highest rated player on nfl.com which includes that douche Collins, was the Safety out of VA, Anthony Harris. Too slender for the NFL at 6-1 183 is my best guess and I believe I noted that in the quick notes. One guy I did not like, Bobby Richardson out of INdiana, NFL.com had him in their top 75. I could not find a scheme for him and not even for another team I think.

Theres an article on CBS that says Collins is probably better being a FA than getting drafted on Saturday. He can pick his team once he gets cleared and will have a lot of suitors. They are guessing he'll make 2nd or 3rd round money to start.

  12. I get the feeling that Senquez Golson is going to be this year's Dri Archer. Colbert has openly said they planned on drafting a cornerback in the second round (something that goes against their usual strategy) but has gone out of their way to show that, even though the kid is 5'8", they believe he will be an incredible player. The numbers don't lie, either, as he only have up 4 TD's in 2014.

My expectations are tampered for now, as his ball hawking ability is very intriguing...however I don't see him being anything more than a decent #2 CB. I am absolutely fine with that, though, and expect the team to continue to address this position over the next year.

I thought the Ravens jumped us to get Rollins at first, then Mayock mentioned Maxx Williams and I knew that was their pick. Then we are on the clock and Rollins is there and I am thinking we got our man. I was hoping beyond hope that Rollins would fall to us and we pick Golson instead. I just hope Golson turns out to be better than Rollins.

I actually like the UDFA Centers more than some of the picks.

*BYE* <---- even a blind squirrel finds a nut. Chickillo is not only going to make the roster, he wiill be used in sub packages to wreak havoc on the field. Love that pick, one of the biggest sterals of the draft.

To Beach, I happened to read some of the negatives on Corey Crawford just had to really slide him down on my final board, which I never got around to posting. I actually had Harold dropped down a bit more and moved up Kroft, had a good feeling on him. I think moving up for Grady Jarret is going to immensely improve the Falcons. Comparisons to Geno Atkins are not out of line.

Holliman, cannot tackle, you can teach that. Catching the ball, you either can or cannot and have natural hands. Unfortuatley for us Sammy Coates does not snatch the ball effortlessly, let's hope Mann corrects that. Jesse James is a late round TE they say something in. If you wanted an all around TE, Heuerman was the pick, but I had Grant much higher and I will stick to that 49 ranking. That kid gets it. Similar situation last year,, I swore my Martavis Bryant, had him easily as BPA when they took Mini KR, glad he lasted until the 4th.

I also stand by my disdain two years ago on Landy Suck=Ass jones. I am hoping Taj Boyd beats him out as the Number 3.

One I will question is this, my top Priorty FA would not have been Wes Saxton. The player I think would really have helped is Nick Marshall. A long CB who is an emergcy QB who puts a hat on Sunday, plays core ST, and develops. Marshall was a winner, and a good locker room guy. Had they had a 7th comp pick I would have went mental shit yelling t have his name called. But I will take Holliman. I did drop him, but did not exclued him, he is a playmaker.

I have another prediction, Max Vailles gets cut. He is one of those guys who has great measurables but just cannot put them into fooltball movement.

I guess they truely were set at RB, I think it was a mistake not drafting one in a very deep class. I saw very little of our #3 to justify much of anything.

I'm trying to figure out why Golson is so certain to be bad because he is 5'9"?

Brent Grimes, Brandon Boykin, Joe Haden, Darelle Revis...none of them are over 5'11" with Boykin and Grimes at 5'10". Is one or two inches really the difference between being one of the best CBs in the NFL and being a complete bust?

I get that his height is going to be an issue against some of the taller receivers in the league, but this is a guy that likely would have been a top 15 pick if he was two inches taller. He might have been the first CB taken if he were 5'11" instead of 5'9". It seems silly to me to think he can't be at least an effective starting CB for this team with his coverage skills and ball skills. Especially considering that William Gay is 5'10" and Brice McCain was generously listed at 5'9" as well and both of them played very well for this team last year.

I think that Golson is more talented than McCain and Gay both, so why are we giving the team such a hard time for this pick? If the kid picks off 4 or 5 balls I think we will all be pretty happy with the pick, so lets see what he's got before we fire up the Caddy.

This reaction reminds me of the reaction to drafting Le'Veon Bell a couple of years ago in the 2nd round. Everybody thought it was a reach. Too early for a RB. If we were going to take a RB that early, it should have been Eddie Lacy! Blah, blah, blah. Lets see how it turns out before we call it a bust of a pick.

Valid points but the game does come down to inches or split seconds, there is a difference practically speaking. verts, limb length, it all matters at this level and i just think starting with a bigger disadvantage than the norm ( i presume 5-10/5-11 is about the average for good CB's in this league) does warrant a rather sceptical view at times- perhaps not outright bashing but if you are 5-8 which he has been reported to be, or even 5-9, you are lining up in a position where when you leap for a ball you might literally be an inch too short at times. Again, i do agree that there are exceptions to the rule and he might be amazing.

I called myself out on that when they took Doran Grant. I was happy with Grant at 5'10" but disappointed in Golson at 5'9", which they actually announced at 5'8". But still, Troy was 5'10" and though he wasn't known as a cover guy, he made plays on the ball and was pretty successful. Golson's INT numbers were inflated due to poor throws, but he had to be in position to make those plays in the first place and then catch the ball. So I no longer have any complaint about him and will wait to see what happens.

Seems to me that a lot of the backs drafted can catch the ball. Which tells me the Steelers think they need players in the DBfield that can catch because they aren't getting any turnovers with the current ones. Even Bud Dupree is supposed to have good hands. Weren't the Steelers near the bottom in the +/- turnover ratio last season?

  19. Colbert pretty much said the same thing in his press conference. They got the two top ballhawks in the NCAA last year, with the total added INT's they drafted to be 29. Obviously, it is unrealistic to expect that type of production to immediately translate, but it does show they want turnovers.

And also, yes Dupree has good hands. He was a TE they converted to DE/OLB his freshman year at UK. He thought Joker Phillips was living up to his namesake, but they moved him around on a sub-par defense and he made a decent amount of plays. I think he can play in situational pass-rushing situations and be eased into the defensive rotation.

  20. manosteel9423 Franchise Player Steelers

Don't get me wrong, I would prefer that he was 6'2" but I would rather a small guy who can play than a tall one who can't. I honestly believe that a receivers height is only a big advantage if the QB is capable of taking advantage of it. I don't think there are a lot of QB's in the NFL that can consistently do that. It takes ridiculous accuracy to consistently throw the ball into that tight a window. This kid has proven that if you test him and aren't perfect he will burn you. I like that.
