Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

  1. I would love Eddie Goldman, adding him to our defensive line would really pay dividence long term for this defence. If there is no value at cb there will be value elsewhere. Max Williams, Eddie Goldman, jalen string , DBG just to name a few. It wouldn't surprise me to see the steelers jump up a couple spots for Rowe, they really like him.

Beach, moats IMO is a solid player he provides good depth, but he certainly offers a little more than that. He's not gonna set the league on fire but he won't let his team down. I think he's starting lolb day one with Dupree getting a few snaps a game, I don't see him losing his job this season. Unless the lights come on real quick for Dupree which I don't forsee at this point.

I'd take Heuerman in the 4th but no one sooner than that.

Jesse James in the 6th wouldn't break my heart. After him I like Blake Bell or C.J. Uzomah in the 7th.

UDFA - give me the kid from Illinois State, James O'Shaughnessy.

I would have no problem with Goldman but I'll be surprised if he's not one of the first 5 guys taken tonight. No way is DBG on the Steelers board.

Differing opinions on Moats. I think had he been drafted and immediately stuck at a 3-4 OLB spot he could be a nice player. He had a 1.61 10yd split (that's the first 10 Faulk ;) ), a 36" vertical and a 10 foot broad jump at the combine. He's still learning the position. He has explosive traits and he plays with leverage.

O'Shaughnessy is the kid I tried to mention pages ago... would love him as an UDFA

Day 3 of the draft is my favorite..

    enjoy,

Yeah I'm with you. Might even consider him at 239.

  6. Agreed on Goldman he won't last long. Should have been drafted in round one.

I hope your right about moats, to me at this point he may be a 7 or 8 sack a season type of guy which is great, but there's no reason at all to suggest he couldn't get a lot more as he learns the position as you suggest. The steelers obviously like him with the contract they gave him. There's gonna be some good battles at camp for the two outside spots.

I like the pick. Dupree is one of those freak of nature players. He can play End or LB and is good at pass coverage, which proves he's quick and fast. If he develops into that freak type player, I think the Steelers will use him in both places ala Polamalu. Except he'll be more up front than in the defensive backfield.....Other teams will have to account to where he's at ala Polamalu. I can understand why the Steelers picked him. It's hard to pass up on those freak of nature players because they can pay off big time if they live up to their potential. ala Polamalu......

Love the pick. Love even more that he doesn't need to be expected to start right away. With Moats, Harrison and Jones on the roster, the kid can learn and develop for a year, come in as a situational pass rusher, and play special teams. Then, when Harrison is gone, hopefully he overtakes Moats and we have our starting OLBs for the next 7 or 8 years in Jones and Dupree.

Obviously, I am with everyone else that CB should be a priority. I have made my preference from Rollins known and would love to see him in the black and gold. I think he's a bit raw but could be a superstar in this league with a year or two of NFL coaching under his belt. However, there are about a half dozen CB prospects that I would be happy with tonight, so lets just get it done.

Hey all, so anything big come about?

long ass day at work but im in it for the long haul now, i believe the draft starts back up in about 5.5 hours.

I cant recall the board numbers right now but i would love a trade up for rowe or rollins if either get to 40. other than that, i like dorsett but i doubt we double dip so early. Coleman would be nice too and then there are the likes of preston smith or goldman. So much talent to go.

    Really excited for today

3 years in a row we have selected a LB in rd1, we better have a great LBer core going forward

Round 1 picks aren't a given to turn out.. you hope they do... but it's a crap shoot... I'd settle for 2 out of the 3....

Moats can play both LOLB and ROLB. He had 4 sacks and 2 FF on a very limited number of snaps. Hard to tell how he would hold up as a starter, but he was certainly productive for the Steelers last season. I was very pleased with his attitude and performance and he definitely earned his new contract.

Looking closer at Dupree, he needs conditioning. He looks a little heavy from the waist down and he'll probably have a tendency to pack on more weight like Woodley seemed to. As long as he comes ready to work he'll always be in great condition, but if he gets lazy he'll have trouble. I'm not worried about him at all based on what I've read so far.

Carolina took Shaq Thompson because the Cardinals sniped D.J. Humphries.

Pick #33 is for sale and supposedly the Steelers have interest. What would that cost?

For the Steelers I would say a their 2nd and 3rd at least.

According to the value chart on Walters Football, pick 33 is worth 580 points. 56 is worth 340, so the other 240 points would come from a 3rd and 4th, or possibly a third this year and another next year. Too rich for my blood.

WAY too rich! No way I am giving up a 3rd and a 4th this year alone, let alone another pick next year!

If they really want to move up, it better be for a heck of a player! There is alot of depth in this draft and giving away picks is not something I'm really interested at this point. The Steelers have gotten too many impact players in rounds 3-6 in recent drafts for me to be okay with giving them away at this point.
