The part that makes this draft easier for me is I only see half a dozen special talents, and I know they will all be gone in the top 15 picks. There are 20 more guys who look more or less equal as first round prospects, and the Steelers will get one of them. Although I would prefer a CB or OLB, Malcom Brown might be the Steelers' BPA if he lasts to 22.

Would any of you reject the possibility of Casey Hampton 2.0 and instead take a borderline 2nd round CB or OLB?

Demo i think the Steelers go RB in round 5. (previously I thought 4, but now round 5 is more logical) Bell out 3 games why wait on Wally Pip? I think you have to be a baby boomer to get that one

I always thought Nick Marshall had a ton of value as a dime CB, special teamer, and Emergency QB.

Read some of the chatter on PPG the past month plus, they are saying what I said before these guys hit the field after the draft.

Landy Jones Sucks, always sucked, will continue to suck, and is a wasted roster spot.
Dri Archer was drafted way too early, not only that too slight of a build for the NFL. Now add in he cannot return kicks or punts.

My gripe is still moving up for Shamarko Thomas. 3 picks in the 4th round and mortgage your 3rd rounder next year. Retarded move and with a division rival no less. He fell into the 4rh round for a reason, he's under-sized.

But I will give credit where it is due, never saw Shade Tree doing this well, though he underachieved at Tennessee. Hoevever this was a late round low risk pick, In the 3rd and 4th you got to be looking at depth and potential starters. The jury is out on Thomas, he will start in 2015, fingers crossed.

I am not labeling Jarvis Jones a bust quite yet. one more year, one healthy year to see what he can do.

Another thing we picked up, and now it is being hashed out, the LOLB spot has got to go to a guy who's frame can handle 260 lbs. Not 235 or 240, 260 and up. That is why the best choice at 22 is Bud Dupree.

Early on in the process I was telling you guys about Vic Beasely, now he is a top 10 pick. Honestly on Danny Shelton I saw some bad tape, I hold the right to be on the fence with him.

At 22, I think the BPA and consensus is Kevin Johnson with 13 days until D-Day. Eli Harold is just not big enough for the left side and actually coming out I would rate Jason Worilds higher, based on his quickness off the ball. Ziggy Doo-Dah has too many medical concerns in my book and although I was jumping up and down at Kikaha, he is very stiff and plays tall.

One Wildcard in all of this is Shaq THompson, this is the smaller version of SHazier and like Nick Marshall offers versatility as an emergency RB. At 22 it's too rich for me to have an explosive player in sub packages, and I think his frame is maxed out. Gerry Dulac has a man-crush on him and Eric Rowe.

Yeah and watching Great Lake Tomlinson handle him one v one at the senior bowl practices... on the fence also

If that's correct then Mel F ing Kiper pegged the pick months ago...kind of a scary thought. I don't think anybody but Kipper had Johnson as a first round pick back then. I'm not sure what flavor Kiper has bounced to for the Steelers now but I know the first Mock of his I read had Kevin Johnson going to the Steelers.

No thank you to Eli Harold or Ziggy!

Not to give the man any more credit than he deserves, but he does hit on picks/players from time to time.

But nonetheless...he is still captain douchebag over at ESPN.

What's Shaq Thompson's speed and coverage ability, isn't he the one that played safety too? the fact that he played ILB and probably has a nice frame, what if he was a Troy 2.0 they utilized Troy all over the field.

I know this may be a stupid question to some of you. I'm going to ask anyhow. I see on the list where certain players were listed as pro-day visits for example LSU. Is there a possibility that there are other players who were there that the Steelers were interested in? Or, is there a way to specify who exactly they were interested in? I understand if a specific position coach goes there, it would be easily assumed who they are there to see.

I am just trying to see if there are possibilities of players flying under the radar, that may not be on the list. My own little quirk to try and see if there is more there than meets the eye, or am I just wasting my time?

  12. StlCrtn Franchise Player Steelers

He's a big body with the ability to get a good release off the ball to get get open. He doesn't have elite speed, but he kind of reminds me of a poor-man's Heath Miller when he came out.

  13. LoveTheSteelers Franchise Player Steelers

I think you can tell a lot by which coaches were present for a Pro Day. Sometimes both Tomlin and Colbert were present, and in those cases its harder to tell. Presumably they would show up together for higher round picks, or for Pro Days at schools like Ohio State where there are 25 draft eligible players and a lot of ground to cover.

You also want to see multiple contacts for the higher round picks. BTSC has a great chart where they list all contacts by position. Multiple visits don't necessarily mean they will draft a guy, but it does show they are very interested and want to make sure they are comfortable with a player. Sometimes multiple visits mean they aren't sure. I especially like to watch who they bring to Pittsburgh for a visit.

  14. I am highly doubting the Steelers have a NT on their board for the first round. I have said this many times...the NFL right now is based upon sub package football and there are OLB's, CB's, and safeties I would rate much higher talent-wise then anyone on the defensive line.

  15. LoveTheSteelers Franchise Player Steelers

I would tend to agree with you, simply because there isn't a single DT prospect on the visit list for the Steelers up to this point. However, the counter argument to sub-package football is that if you can stop the run and get pressure on the QB with 4 guys, the importance of talent at CB and S is reduced. The Giants won two Super Bowls without much talent in the DB arena. So I'm with you at OLB but I'd take Malcom Brown over every CB not named Waynes or Johnson in the draft this year.

My collaborative was okay, really apologize for round 6 and 7. I have some traumatic things going on at home. StlCtrn has been communicationg with me, so he knows the deal.

Moving forward, to take my mind off of things I am working on my big board. I will admit it, there are some major flaws with it specifically and in general. Here are some rando thought nd you guys can digest and discuss my post however you feel you can be constructive, here goes.

The perfect slot for RB is Round 5 and the back is Matt Jones, Florida.
Ther perfect OL player in rounds 6-7 is Max Garcia, Florida. If he makes it to The steelers in the 6th, then the stars aligned.
Let's stop discoutning players due to size, but not speed. Her are 3 DT's considered to be 3 techniqes that I think could be part of a DL rotation in sub packages.
    1. Grady Jarret- he is a Geno Atkins II, unblockable, disruptive, interior pressure.
    2. Michael Bennet- A highty talented Buckeye that does most everything well.
    3. Darius Philon, just watched some Arkansas hghlights, this kid has a Gabe Rivera fist step.

The more I read about Zach Vigil, the more I don't like, his negatives outweigh his upside, which there is not much of.

James Sample will be the better pro than Gerod Holliman, this was confirmed in thoughts on Path to the Draft, and I had mentioned him pre-combine. Thanks to StlCtrn when I was reeling after some Muther Fletcher snapped up Kenny Bell for suggesting the pick.

Speaking of Bell, great player, reminds me of Hines Ward, not sure the Steeler Brass have him on their radar. IF they don't I think it's a mistake because he will be a core ST player, adds value as a returner, and blocks like a mofo and they need a 5th WR to compete with DHB.

What is helping me more than most other sites, when I am on the fence with a guy ,is the nfl draft tracker, giving out grades to players. I do not agree with a lot of them, but unerstand that this is all a crap shoot, and opinions vary.

Kudo's to Mel Kiper for picking Kevin Johnson at 22, pre-combine. LOL before he wieghed in no less. The latest news is the ESPN draft coverage will also be available on Comedy Central. I do not think PIttsburgh takes a CB with that slight a build at 22, Marcus Peters looks more the part.
and Jalen Collins is too risky in my book.

How far will Randy Gregory fall, he will NOT get past Cincy at 21 for two reasons. Marvin Lewis is a mentor to kids like this and he really does not want Andy Dalton facing him twice a year.

If I get around to doing a mock, I have a thought on the Raiders. Double dip with USC. Okay all the draft gurus have a WR to Oakland at 4. There are so many good WR with a 1-2 grade but only one DT with a top 3 grade. Take Leonard Williams, team him up with Kahlil Mack and win a half dozen games with a killer defense. Then come back in round 2 and take Nelson Agholar. Even if he is gone Jalen Strong, Phillip Dorsette, or Devin Smith, someone will be there, maybe even Breshaud Perriman.

Bud Dupree does not get past New Orleans. As much as they need to replace Jimmy Graham and some other weapons, their D sux Walrus ass.

A big time QB will be on the blocks, either Phillys Rivers or Jayne Cuntler.
I think I had the steal of round 2 in the first Collaborative, Preston Smith is one of the safest picks in round 2, not named Laken Tomlinson. If he falls to 56 I like him way ahead of Eili Harold who is just another Jarvis Jones, restricted to the right side OLB. and really isn't Randy Gregory the same type of build. Steelers need a big body LB who you can line up anywhere. Here are some of those types of guys.
    Bud Dupree
    Preston Smith
    Trey Flowers

Round 3 I am really liking Markus Golden, heck I took him twice! But round 4 taking David Cobb twice might not be in the cards. Let's think of round 5 and up for RB as I mentioned.

Rounds 4,5,6 I think I would wait on TE, this class sucks. Any other year Jesse James and Jeff Heurman are day 3 picks. In the Collaborative I took the kid out of Deleware, but the Steelers have more of an interest in Wes Saxton, my bad. I was reminded that you can coach blocking but you cannot coach hands and seperation down the seam. They may even view him as a big WR, ala Marques Colston, you can see the eerily identical numbers when you dig deeper.

Tyler Varga, great story, a great kid on the roster, but a guy with a smilar grade will be the better pro, Jalston Fowler Alabama. The knee injuries scare me though, I am on the fence, not on my board either.

Here is a very interesting DT, with a unique background: Leterrius Walton, Central Michigan. Could be a day 3 steal later on, needs more strength but I think Coach Mitchell will see a nice piece of clay.

    read more: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/leterrius-walton?id=2552444
