Path to the draft, I want my hour back. Jeez oh man, waaaay off target. I sort of figured they would whiff. They are not going to draft an OT in round one and the logic was he's injured, but in year two when Gilbert's contract is up.... Whiskey Tango Fuxtrot. The other pick, Jordan Phillips.. He flashes, then disappears. Ok is he a super hero who goes back under cover or is he a football player. Enough of this POtential crap. The only sane one in the dicussion was Charlie Casserly who gave Pittsburgh Marcus Peters over Kevin Johnson. The reason was his physicality.

Some evaluators have Peters as the best CB in he draft, and it fills a need. Okay he did not get along with the new coaching staff, broken down it looks like this. He is a 20 year old kid who did something dumb. His teamates stood by him and backed up his character. Washington gave him permission for the Pro Day. Maybe this was a wakeup call for him and his loyalty to the former staff was a little over the top And the one thing we don't know is the interview. I will be totally on board if he comes in for a visit.

I understand the Odighizuwa attraction. Two hip surgeries drops him down on mhy board. On the side formely patrolled by Woodley pencil him in And was the Steelers defense as good without Woodley, NOPE. There are smiliar guys in this draft who can fill this role. If his medical checks out, they draft him and he gets injured like every other farking top pick, I will be in the TOLD YOU SO mode.

All draft picks are a gamble, but to me the full medical and the interview are not public information so we are at a disadvantage. Maybe Peters is playing the Manziel game and saying all the right things. For that matter Jameis Winston is dong it. And before we cross off anyone based on character and figuring Colbert won't take the player, look no further than Alemeda Ta'Amu, Chris Rainey. For us to so eliminate Peters is neglegent on our parts. But we do know about the two hip surgeries on the Flavor of the month pick, so it's something to chew on. The thing is this, which player is rated higher, that we can discuss.

    Re Jordan Phillips:

    couple of notes:

He comes with obvious red-flags, however, not the least of which is his relative inexperience and the back injury which ruined his 2013 campaign.

Phillips could just as easily wind up the second coming of Marcus Stroud or Albert Haynesworth, who lacked the requisite work ethic to take full advantage of their talents.

    hmm... at #22?... Pasadena....

    enjoy,

I too don't like Phillips and don't think the Steelers do either, for which I'm eternally grateful.

I think we would prefer to let the smoke clear from Josh Gordon (pun intended) before going down this path again. *WALL*

Then again . . . Le'veon Bell might be looking for someone to ride shotgun with him? ;)

You know one thing to consider is Bell was toking weed, most of these guys seem to try & keep getting away with it. So maybe an early pick at RB like Gurley might be a blessing instead of getting caught with our pants down like the Browns with Gordon last season

Let us go back a few years. A large promising DT veiwed as a NT but with back issues and some flashes on tape. This dude is Ron Brace all over again. Hoodie took him and he never did JFS. If they took a DT for the middle in round one, I could live with Goldman or Brown, but Phillips. I think they are happy with McClendon, Shade Tree. Maybe and UDFA fits the NT mold, a camp body who can push for a spot. Round one, highly doubtful.

Did anyone catch the Tomlin interview on NFL network at 7 pm, just curious. They promoted that during Path to the Draft.

If they are doing horrible on Pittsburgh, I wonder if the other teams fans feel the same. Or does the general masses just buy into the Generic assesments? Cue Mel Kiper Jr. it just amazes me that anyone who follows the NFL draft can stomach that bag of farts. It is fitting the draft will be in Chicago. Between Kiper and Berman, maybe they can hide all the hot air coming from ESPN. I truley feel that they target a demographic audience of 18-30 year olds for marketing. You see a lot of sports drink ads, power bars, a lot of the crap bought by these consumers who frequent Dicks Sports more than Home Depot.

I saw that earlier on CBSSports this morning. Where was he projected to go before that time? I've heard the name before so I'm taking it he was an early round pick?

  14. ny, I used to be far more active on Rams boards than I am over here. The football knowledge over there makes me feel like the smartest guy in the room but here I mostly read because you guys blow me out of the water. I eventually gave up and seldom go over there any more.

So to answer your question, most football fans are dumb and just listen to what they are told.

Not sure if you guys saw... DHB was resigned... So.. My guess is a day 3 WR if the right one is available when they pick... NY's Kenny Bell WR Nebraska would fit that bill.. as would the kid that broke A.Brown's records at C.Mich.... or the kid from W&M.... etc...

    enjoy,

Right. DHB is a great signing. ST star IMFHO and veteran depth. The 5th guy: kenny Bell, Tre'McBride, Titus Davis are those guys, plus the kid from East Carolina: Justin Hardy. Tell you what thesy all have in common. Quickness as displayed in the 3 cone drill.

EDIT: News of the DHB signing means the filling of a roster hole and a devaluing of the need at WR. It also means we can go BPA in round three.

  18. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

I don't think the Browns believe that Shelton will last until pick #19. If he's there at #12, I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull the trigger right then and there. Their run defense absolutely sucked for the entire 2nd half of the season in 2014 and the only NT's left on the roster are both in their final contract year.

Then at #19, I still don't see them going WR. If you had Josh McCown or (heaven forbid) Johnny Manziel as your starting quarterback, would you use a first round pick on a WR? I see them going for an edge rusher here. It's going to be hard for the Browns to score points in 2015. They better be able to prevent folks from scoring points against them.

I could get behind Cann in the second round. Depth on the O-Line (or lack there of) was apparent last year when Mack went down. Having an able bodied Guard would allow Greco to back up Mack without killing the right side of the line.

{edit} That's assuming we still have a 2nd round pick after the "Text-Gate" issue is resolved.

  19. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

I don't see the Steelers going Offense twice on day 2. They are very high on Eric Rowe.

  20. I am not QUITE the draft-buff that many of you are, but I have some very real concerns about Owamagbe Odighizuwa (beyond how the hell to pronounce his name).

1.) One of his weakest traits is his ability to pass rush?which seems kind of like the opposite when we are looking at PASS RUSHING LINEBACKERS.

2.) 2 recent hip surgeries (as NY has pointed out) that make him an injury risk. If everything checked out at the combine, great, but I still get nervous about that.

3.) Switching from DE to OLB is a process?and the Steelers don't have a lot of time to train him up.
