Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

  1. Markus will be better than Shane in the NFL IMO.

  2. Just going to copy and paste some beat writer tweets about the MU pro day followed by my thoughts.

"Official pro day 40 times from Mizzou: Ray 4.64, Murphy 4.51, Golden 4.7, Sasser 4.52, Vincent 4.97" - Good speed from Markus Golden

"Markus Golden credited recent work with MU's Pat Ivey for getting back into the 4.6 range in the 40." - don't know how he had lost that speed...

"Marcus Murphy says he's talked to a lot of teams about being a return specialist and a multipurpose back." -probably about all he's worth in the NFL

"Mizzou's Mitch Morse mostly worked out at center in position drills today." -interesting since he has never played that position here

"Ray said his goal today was to show he's big enough - weighed in at 249 - to play in a 3-4 or 4-3" -should be athletic enough to do anthying asked of him. I have described him as a Robert Quinn in a 4-3.

"Markus Golden shouting "DLINE-ZOU" during DL drills." -This just make me happy

"#Mizzou WR Darius White posts 37.5 inch vertical and 10-foot-4 broad jump" - All the raw skills but never quite put it all together in college, don't know why I'd believe he could in the NFL

"Chiefs special teams assistant Brock Olivo at Mizzou Pro Day." - Former Tiger RB, again just makes me happy.

The cost for Mariotta? Titans, jags, or Raiders that is . Who is willing to move back? Teams with the most leverage: Browns, saints. Eagles aren't going to mortgage the house and the Jets & Redskins are players in the Mariotta Derby. Really ut'a a story I don't give a crap about. Working on my big board, and will be open for positive criticism. Given the low turnout here, and 42 days away, no time for group positional rankings from several posters like in years past.

    Realistic BPA @ 22:

    Marcus Peters
    Bud Dupree
    Landon Collins
    Eddie Goldman

I just don't see Maxx Williams as the pick.

Not sure if it will happen, but I have a gut feeling we are picking Eli Harold with our first round pick.

Pg gazete chats have a man crush on Eric Rowe CB/S Utah, what gives? Not the only DB with length in the draft *ROSE*

  9. The more and more things have changed with FA, I have to agree that any of those are both (a) viable options at 22 and (b) very good players that I would have no problem with the Steelers drafting. I would LOVE to have Dupree on the team, as he is an absolute beast that can be used as a pass rusher right away and won't be asked to do much more than that as a rookie.

However, I am getting VERY concerned about the depth at secondary, especially with the probable release/retirement of Troy P and Ike Taylor, Brice McCain leaving, Blake being released. Right now, we have Will Allen, Shamarko Thomas, William Gay, Cortez Allen, and Mike Mitchell?NONE of that gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I expect them to draft AT LEAST two corners/safeties and two OLB's to give them some players to build with. I truly believe the offense is going to be stellar, but the defense may be even worse than it was the past couple of years.

It has been suggested that being they did not use the money to sign free agents that Troy might be allowed to come back for a farewell tour. Troy in the right situations could be effective. So what it would boil down to is could his pride handle not being the starter.

If he's even there, latest mock from NFL.com Daniel Jeremiah has him going to the Eagles at 20, was on path to the draft last night.

What I am hearing amongst the media closest to the Steelers Front Office is that Troy is not being asked to retire yet, because the clock is still running, not expiring like it was with Hines Ward, Aaron Smith. I am by no means a cap guy, I don't follow it, I am plain and simple a draft guy 365 24/7. Not that I don't care or have the capacity to comprehend the impact, I just have no interest in it.

With that said, I am getting hints from the local guys is what we all think, CB, OLB are targets in the first 2 days. Not off the table are DL and Safety. But I doubt they draft an OL or a RB until Saturday. In a recent interview Todd Haley insists we need to give Dri Archer time. Okay, I will buy one more season but from what I saw last year, he is going to have to be the most improved player on the team for me to buy into that.

Still working on my board, I am thinking that if I have my own board, I am good with what I saw and read. If I try to get what the Steelers board looks like, then a lot of players need to be ranked lower or removed. In essence the top half of the board should look at NEED. This whole BPA is a great concept but Colbert is probably going the best player that fills a hole scenario.

Continuing on that matter, I am leaning toward dumping the athletic OT's and really not looking at any OL unless they are a day 2-3 mauler. So maybe I have two boards, the bites board, and the Steelers board. I think the Steelers board will be half the players on my regular board, 120 vs. 60, something like that.

Here is where I am going. I have Jake Fisher at 52. really a talented kid who could some day be a LT. Reality is that spot should have went to someone like Eric Rowe, a long corner, for the Steelers board. Actually maybe Eric Rowe replaces Andrus Peat at 20, because I think the Steelers are that high on him. In years past I have just had too many CB's too high up, well this is the draft I can actually do that with some semblance of accuracy.

So you guys tell me what you think, two boards is not too much for me to handle, I actually have my board done, just have not typed it out.

open for constructive criticism and positive discussion, this is what I have so far. Some guys who really need to move up are Marcus Golden and Eric Rowe. Thanks to bb for pointing out Marcus Rush, he will be climbing up a tad as well. 101. D'Joun Smith is another guy I think I have too low.

I just updated this, it's about 3 posts above this one, but this is to let you guys know that this is closer to a finished product than what I had posted weeks ago.

a couple of guys I missed as potential CB's. Tony Lippett worked out as a CB on Wednesday, and then there is Nick Marshall.

Keep an eye on Jon Davis TE Illinois - Was injured - kind of dropped off the radar... Heard a couple good reports on him...

    enjoy,

Got it. The same goes for Jeff Heurmann out of Ohio State, played with a effed up foot for most of the season.

some things to think about, free agency and the draft.

    1. They are not paying Revis money to any Free Agent ever, they dumpster dive at the end.
    2. OUt with the old, in with the new. Expect a lot of turnover on Defense and the first two days of the draft OLB and CB.
    3. Woodley's 8M dead cap hit is KILLING the free agency test waters, JMFO.
    4. They want size and speed in the draft, guys like Shazier and Tuitt are the type of player they target.
    5. Don't discount a bigger guy for LOLB, Jones and Harrison are nowhere near the 260 that Woodley and WOrilds played at on the strong side. Bud Dupree won't be there gang, but he is the type of player I am referring to. A guy later on who could fit this mold is Dupree's bookend, Z'adaris SMith. I thought he looked a little stiff, but I'm not a draft expert, I just play one on the internet.

I agree 100%. Would be absolutely shocked. I don't believe he's a first round TE.

OMG please no. I don't normally criticize Steeler's selections but I'd have to make an exception of they take Harold in the first.
