    Happy Draft Day!

    :)

    - Coverage starts at 8pm EST. Steelers pick at 17. This means Burghball can see the Steelers selection and then get his beauty sleep.

    - My fiancee is selling her paintings at a local bazaar Saturday and I'm helping, so I will totally miss the Day 3 action. Thank goodness for this thread.

    - Colbert and Tomlin sound like they're sitting pat. I don't expect them to move up or down; just pick 'em. (Unless some team really gives away the farm to take one of our picks)

    - So many needs, it appears. May be easier to list the positions the Steelers don't need. Like kicker and punter.

"WalterFootball.com was the first site to report on Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones not being a good workout guy who had the potential to fall to the middle of the first round. WalterFootball.com also was the first to project him to the Pittsburgh Steelers. That has become a consensus projection across the web since then. League contacts agree that the Steelers will take Jones if he falls to their pick. However they say he may not get there. The Jets supposedly love Jones. He also could land in New Orleans. Sources say don't be surprised if a team that loves Jones trades in front Pittsburgh to get him.

If Jones is off the board along with other edge rushers like LSU's Barkevious Mingo, the Steelers' Plan B is Tennessee wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson. They think highly of Patterson and would love to add his big-play threat to replace what they lost in Mike Wallace. Pittsburgh had its entire contingent at the Tennessee Pro Day, and the Steelers came away impressed with both Patterson and Volunteer quarterback Tyler Bray.

If the Steelers miss out on Jones and take Patterson, they will definitely target a pass-rusher on the second day. Sources told WalterFootball.com that the Steelers have soured on Jason Worilds. The pass-rushers that Pittsburgh would target on Day 2 include Southern Miss linebacker Jamie Collins, Clemson defensive end Malliciah Goodman and Connecticut linebacker Sio Moore. They also like Ohio State's John Simon as a mid-to-late-rounder."

  4. Hey guys,

After reading multiple articles, it seems like the Steelers will be looking at one of these guys (in this order):

    1.) Jarvis Jones, OLB
    2.) Cordarrelle Patterson, WR
    3.) Kenny Vaccaro, S
    4.) Tyler Eiffert, TE

If Jones gets past New Orleans (switching to a 3-4) at 15, he should be a Black and Gold OLB unless someone jumps up and grabs him. Patterson allows them the flexibility to have a tall WR with incredible speed. Either way, I would be happy with any of these players as they certainly will help the team some this year, but A LOT the following years.

  5. The Steelers will not pick Star. Sorry guys. Even if he is there, he does not really FIX anything. The other guys I listed go in to major depth/talent starved positions and instantly make them better.

Here's the problem I see with Patterson, I think he will be another Wallace, his head is already big, I like a receiver that believes in himself and is confident in his abilities, but show it on the field not with your mouth. Also here is how he is going to be like wallace, I believe he's going to split at the end of his rookie contract, so we get 4 years out of a guy that is all about the money.

BB, get the caddie ready if the Steelers pick this guy no matter what.

I know there reports last year about this, but do you think they'd consider moving Worilds inside?

  8. StlCrtn Franchise Player Steelers

Wow. I never really considered that. Ideally that would be great, but to throw Worilds OLB and move him to ILB next year could be damaging to his growth. If anybody would make the move, I think Woodley would be the more logical choice seein as he is pretty solid against the run; and that's what is needed when you're beside a guy like Timmons.

I don't like Patterson. Only one year at Div 1 level, has a lot of drops, and some people question his maturity. If there are a lot of good receivers in this draft I would wait until later to get one.

    IMB,

I like most of your choices but I think they are quietly looking at Steadman Bailey real hard, just not publishing it. Here is the deal with Patterson, there is only one player more explosive with the ball in the open field, Austin, who won't be there. Immaturity issues are percieved by the media, the fans, and NONE OF US KNOW WHAT WAS SAID IN THE INTEVIEW ROOM. We "heard" he did not inteview well, by who? Who said it Kiper (full of crap),. McShay (even more crap), the nfl network guys, (mixed reveiws), it does nto matter, what do Tomlin and Colbert think of the kid? When the Steelers were rolling along, before Ben got hurt, things were great. Then the offense just went to chit. Wallace with the concentration, the fumbles, etc.. If you want a guy who drops passes, it's Justin Hunter not Patterson, watch the film. One minute he makes a circus catch, the next play he's bobbling a 5 yard square out. After Rainey and Ta'amu last year, they are going to be cautious with their character. Has Patterson smoked dope, DUI, domestic violence, not really. Ogletree, he's probably off their board, I think they think Patterson will be dyamic and with the right guidance and support, will be a great Steeler, JMFO.

On the record, I HATE CHASE THOMAS. He's slow, and doesn't have closing speed, that is why he is Chase Thomas and not Catch Thomas. I like your Safety thinking but I think Swearinger comes off in round 3, and JJ Wilcox is more within range in 4. Round 7, Oh God no on Kahlid Holmes, the USC offensive line was well....... offensive. I will give him the nod over Braxton Cave-in however . In the 5th I really like Justin King, I think he's a sleeper. If he is there in the 6th, they can afford to let him heal, Quentarus Smith has Steeler OLB written all over him. Another guy really under the radar is Spencer Ware, his carries were down in 2012, but like a lot of these guys, look at the 2011 tape, something was off this year.

Somehow I think Sio Moore, Jamie Collins, Malliciah Goodman, and Corey Lemonier fit into all of this especially if the light is not coming on with Worilds. But is that even true, would Colbert let Harrsion walk with nobody in mind to play OLB in 2013, that sounds fishy to me.

Just my thoughts, and later I would like to do a list like this, great idea.

    Code:
If not I'd doubt they would take Vaccaro, Ansah, Patterson or Austin.
Just curious why you don't think they would take any of these guys? Ansah might be a top 10 pick. Austin will probably be gone by 17.

I would like to see the Steelers go defense in the first round. I hope Austin and Eifert are gone by 17.

yeah, trade out of 17 if Jones and Patterson are gone, and get another third rounder.

Again, nyb, from your lips to the ears of Colbert and Tomlin. Ironman and (and others pounding the table)I have wanted this kid from the very beginning and I guarantee you if we pick him up you'll see at least two Steeler guys that can high-five jump ... straight away in to the summer camps and beyond with a kid who, I think brings great receiving skills, leadership qualities and more Hines Ward characteristics to the field then anyone since Hines...

If true, it makes perfect sense not to advertise to other teams ... we'll see... please, please, please :)

10-4, look forward to it !

Vaccaro is completely overvalued in a deep safety class IMO, why take a guy in the mid first that you can get a comparable (or BETTER IMO) version of a round or even 2 full rounds later?

Cyprian is every bit as good, and, perhaps more available later ... there are others too who can be thrown in to that safety mix... we need to grab one of them though... it's a need IMO. A need that can be satisfactorily addressed later in draft than round 1. If Vacarro is taken round 1, I won't consider it a reach, but more an inefficient use of our #1. Will be thrilled to have him, just doesn't have the value as other might IMO for a #1 round pick.

I will tell you who is over-rated, Dee Milliner. Watching the tape again, he bobbles the ball, he is not a ball hawk. WIth 5 surgeries, cleared medically or not, I'm not touching him in the top 12. JMFO. The best value at CB, if he's there at 48 is the kid out of Boise State, Jamar Taylor. Ball skills, cover skills, off-man, press, the whole package. Xavier Rhodes is on the over-rated side too, I think he fits a lot of schemes but not all, and he is stiffer than I thought rewatching some tape. And the best cover corner with ball skills is DJ Hayden, Mayock is right, naturally, but I do not think he goes first round because of the medical.

as a player, yes, hits like a truck.

but......as a pickpocket, he's an allstar. That is my gripe with him, bad history of theft, and not interceptions, but wallets, watches, cash, grandma's gold teeth. Will he be a problem in the locker room, not sure, but I doubt Troy Polamalu will be happy when his cross is missing.

I like Slay, but I like Jamar Taylor better. Man if DJ Hayden clears medical, he'll be the best CB in the draft, at least on paper, Dude blankets the WR and has ball skills, he's Revis with one of the worst injuries I've ever heard of. Does is scare me, hell yeah, not sure of too many teams that can afford to miss with the pick, but...... if Miami keeps all their picks, lookout in the second round.

  19. MaineofSteel Franchise Player Steelers

Man, I like the "hits like a truck" comment... too bad if he's guilty by association... perhaps a silver lining is he gets overlooked because of some bad info and we end up with him as a steal, late.

I have Slay as my 3rd round pick in one of the games ... he looks awfully good, but so do a few others .. my head is spinning... I don't know how you guys keep up with all this ! :p

Stupid NFL channel, they had us select Lacy at 17, no way we waste a good pick on him.
