Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

  1. What do you guys think of Jeremy Langford from MSU? He seems like a Bell clone (same school and everything) and might be a steal in the 4th or 5th round. I think the kid has good vision and patience, as well as sure hands.

I will be surprised if the coaching staff goes into the season with only 3 RB's on the roster this year, as I assume they will draft someone and sign a cheap vet for depth.

Langford ran a 4.42 fastest RB @ Combine, could go late second day.

Steeler Depot is talking Beasley @ 22 & Eli Harold in the 3rd. I think they are undervaluing both. Harold is mockedvto Pittsburgh @ 22 by Charlie Campbell of Walter Football. Depot is skso talking up the Grizz, Zach Waggeman. I am more focused on Hull out of Chattenooga.

Very weak class of TE's I'd hold off on the Maxx Williams man-crush he's a 2nd rounder all day. Clive Walford looked pedestrian in Indianapolis I tbink he goes 3rd round. Jesse James, TE, out of Penn State tested better.

Path to the draft starts tomorrow on NFL Network, pretty good show.

That's part of last years visit list - players that the steelers brought in for a visit... As you can see, we need to pay attention to this list of players. I believe the prior year we also drafted 3-4 players off the 30 allocated visit list...

Does any one know when teams can start bringing in players for visits? And a good web site to track the visits?

I can't find any good film on Eli Harold - just the highlight reels. Based on his production I'm trying to figure out how this guy slipped into 1st round consideration. He had 7 sacks last year in a watered down conference and all of them came against bad teams:

    UCLA - 0 sacks
    Richmond - 1 sack
    Louisville - 2 sacks
    BYU - .5 sacks
    Kent State - 2 sacks
    Pittsburgh - 0 sacks
    Duke - 0 sacks
    UNC - 1.5 sacks
    Ga Tech - 0 sacks
    Florida State - 0 sacks
    Miami - 0 sacks
    Va Tech - 0 sacks

Like I said, haven't seen him play but how does a guy become a sack guy in the NFL if he wasn't a sack guy against good college competition?

Yeah - It's puzzling.. I did see him mocked in the 1st round forget by who- but my guess as NY stated - a late day 2 (3rd rounder) or more than likely a day 3 pick...

Thanks Quew. Watched Louisville against a very, bad LT that was benched mid-year and is now transferring out of Louisville. Not impressed. I'm at the beginning of the Miami game and I think it's safe to say we can take him off the board - just flagged for roughing the passer, blow to the head. :D

"blow to the head"? Did you really have to go there? ManO is lurking out there... and we all know how he likes Cox...

If you don't like Harold, maybe you might like Valles, only a true soph, came out because he went to Fort Valley CC for a year (so he is 3 yrs removed from HS) he is only 19, I think he isn't done physically, let alone mentally maturing. (Should get bigger faster, stronger). I know the Steelers aren't terribly high on underclassmen historically, he could be someone of interest to check out.

Actually I think Tomlin prefers underclassmen. Timmons, Pouncey among others. The one thind I have noticed is that they rarely draft early from Division IA or II, III schools. Free agents, yeah, HoJo comes to mind, but their drafts pretty much stick to the conerences that have better competition. Towards the end of the draft they look at guys from schools like Arkansas State and Samford. (David Johnson, NIck Williams)

I know the wheels are spinning, Samford = Jaquiski Tartt. Not sure, like I said later rounds for smaller schools. Even their best Fullback under Cowher came from New Hampshire late in the draft, Dan Kreider. They would still have a kick ass fullback, John Kuhn, had Arians the imagination to figure him into his offense. Yeah yeah coach of the year, he was Ben's buddy, I think the Todd Haley hate has squelched down.

Louisville, are you watching Maulden or Harold? For Louisville I really like the RG, #70, he is a road grating animal that gets to the second level and well.... levels people.

Eli Harold is an athlete but no way is he a 1st round football player. The mock that showed Harold to the Steelers is on CBS.

I wish the NFL would run the combine with the players in full pads. The Underwear Olympics are more of a track and field event than football. How great would it be to see these guys running the 40 or doing the shuttle drill in pads?

Just Harold - #7. Not very impressed. I finished the Miami game and Flowers dominated him all game. Most scouts don't even see Flowers at left tackle. Eli beat him one time on the outside.

  19. burghball Guest

Agreed - after watching that tape - he has the look of a day three player.. if that

Re Flowers - there is some tape of him attempting a kick slide on Steelers Depot... Brutal...

Said it before Erving > Flowers. Steelers interested in the other Flowers, the edge rusher from Arkansas.
