James Farrior played ILB for the Steelers weighing less than 225LBS. He was pretty darn good! There is no way the Steelers draft Thompson to play LB with Shazier, Timmons, and Spence already on the roster. I read tweet that said Shaq Thompson is an Alfa among alfas...other players follow him. I believe it was a team reporter that sent the observation out over twitter.

I'm not sure the Steelers would take a guy in the first round that's played LB and RB as a safety. Crazz to think three guys from Washington could all go in the first round and they'd all be a pretty nice pick up for the Steelers.

Nate Orchard is a guy that I view as this years Dee Ford. I was a big fan of Dee Ford and I view Orchard much the same. He's already got more technique that Jarvis Jones. To much production this year in a good conference this year to overlook him. He had 18.5 sacks in the Pack 12 this year. During his college career he had 8 forced fumbles.

    Happy BDay ny.

I like Quinten Rollins. I believe he will be an elite CB in the NFL, and those are hard to come by.

I pretty sure he wont be there at 56, heck maybe not even 22. He just looks like a freak athlete. He is a ballhawk and hits like a LB.

I take exception to the bolded part. The whole reason why Colbert salivated over Jones and loved that he fell to 17 in 2013 was because of his production in the SEC and experience in the 3-4. That doesn't happen without technique. If Jones didn't sustain his injury, he would've had a big 2014 season - he led the Steelers in sacks through two and a half games.

Orchard plays in a pass-happy conference, and while I love Orchard as a prospect, Jones was a Top-10 contender and Orchard is a fringe first-rounder at best. Jones had pro-ready technique while Orchard can still use some polish. Orchard is closer to Jason Worilds coming out of college than he is to Jarvis Jones.

Do you guys think we could invest a late-round pick into Leterrius Walton, DT, Central Michigan? 6'5", 321 pounds, probably a DE in our system because of his length. Will take a year to develop, but has a decent ceiling.

Orchard had 18.5 sacks last season in the pass happy PAC 12. If you haven't noticed the NFL is pass happy now days.

Being tagged as a top ten prospect doesn't mean crap once you get to the NFL. Jarvis Jones had a speed rush and bull rush when he came to the NFL. Orchard is far more polished as a pass rusher coming into the NFL than Jarvis Jones was coming out of Georgia. Jones was a top ten prospect based on physical ability and not his technique.

The SEC produces some great players but when you look at last seasons rookie sack leaders there isn't an SEC player in the top five. SEC success doesn't equal NFL success just ask Michael Sam. Jarvis Jones was 2012 SEC defensive rookie of the year and he had a whopping one sack his rookie season.

  10. I know I keep saying this, but we need collectively give Jarvis Jones a break. The dude played sparingly with a gimp arm and Harrison was playing lights-out at the end of the season. Jones has had the pleasure to learn under both Porter AND Harrison (i.e. two of the greatest OLB's the Steelers have EVER had) so if he doesn't put it together after this season, I will agree that he is a bust. However he looked real good the first few games (you know, when the rest of the team looked horrendous) and I think he will be fine come 2015. He and Shazier both should have breakout years.

Some combine results are starting to come in .. Just one of the check boxes.. remember - glorified track meet..

Cameron Erving - OT/OG/OC - bench 30 reps - nice for a long armed prospect

    Erick Flowers - OT - 37 reps

TJ CLemmings - OT - projected 1st rounder... 22 reps ... Got to throw a flag here - I've watched this kid at Pitt all year and I just dont see a 1st round grade.... Hopefully he gets picked before 22 and pushes someone else to us... I see the kid as a second round project

    Rob Havenstein - 16 reps?

Ali Marpet - 30 reps... a nice small school interior (RT maybe) prospect...

    TE numbers of thought...

Jesse James TE Penn State - 26 reps Kid is 6'7"

    Maxx Williams... 17 reps

Nick Boyle the Delaware kid - and Walford - 20 reps..

    again - just numbers..

Tyler Varga - hands - 10 5/8 - biggest hands in the RB class... I love this kid from Yale... He's got Football player written all over him... and I'm guessing his wonderlich will be higher than Winston...

    enjoy,

    bb

Edit - Donovan Smith OT Penn State - Kid played really well at the Senior Bowl - 26 reps 3rd or 4th round possible Steal...

Hey BB, what are the numbers on Nick O'leary? I really like him, the kid is a football player, will lower the boom on players at the end of runs.

Some of us thought he'd be a first round pick if he came out last season when he played T.

Ouch....I can do 15 reps and I'm barely 200 lbs in the over 40 club!

Ali Marpet had a good senior bowl and now he's showing his athleticism.

DJ Humphries is going to climb the board. Is he a workout warrior or does he have tape that confirms he's a stud on the field?

  14. jcsteelfan Franchise Player Steelers

Is Randy Gregory going to fall?

Vic Beasley is much bigger than anticipated! Is he going to rise?

How many WRs are going to go before the Steelers pick? Sounds like DGB might be worth the risk. I can't see Cooper or White falling. Question is will Parker and DGB also go in the first 20 picks. There could be an early run on WRs pushing a stud down to the Steelers.

I'm not BB, but O'Leary does not have very good measurables. 6'3", short arms, small hands, among the slowest TEs at the meet. One of the worst broad jumps, but his 21 reps puts him in the top 5 in that category. That's too bad because I like O'Leary as a football player, but he's not NFL material.

Ive got the combine on Dvr for the duration. My big thing will be the change of direction drills for the CB/s and the LB's. Then lioking forbthe soft hands & fluidity on tje TE/Wr group. Love the 3 cone drill hate the coverragevwithvall the horseschitt inbetween the action (coaches in the stands) I would rather watch the drills.

Is everyone taking a nap, or what.

Stock up: David Johnson, RB, NIU, he was a third day pick going into the combine now he make sneak into day 2. Looked great and smooth in the drills according to Marshall Faulk and the 4 RB coaches he talked to said "watch out for this kid". Not good news for us hoping we would snap him up in the middle of the 4th round, I think that just flew out the window.

Tj Clemmings has awesome athletic ability but he is raw and unpolished, confirmed by what everyone is seeing.

My sleeper WR Kenny Bell looks the part, ran good, caught good, nothing that makes you go wow, but confirmation he belongs on a roster. Plus he got the Afro going on from the 70's.

Todd Gurley and his medical, refusing knee exams from team doctors. This kid has first round talent and won't go on day one, my gut.

Brandon Scherff, tweaked his hamstring, I wonder if that pushes Andrus Peat past him.

Mike Mayock says Kevin White is the best WR in the draft, any guesses where he goes? How about St. Louis? BTW this kid passes every test and is a phsical freak.

Speaking of physical freaks, the WR from Georgia Chris Conley is making teams rewatch his tape, his name is now buzzing.

I am just catching bits aand pieces, it really is tiresome watching countless hours, the wrap up show helps some and it's on later on I think. Truthfully I was out searching for wood pellets today, Big shout out to Agway for selling me a full skid. Most suppliers are limiting customers to 10 bags due to the shortages with the coldest February in the East since the 1800's. I got 100 bags and have the muther cranked up. Too old to be cold. I had 50 got 50 more, the price was higher but there is nothing like coming home after working all night to a 70 degree house.

Randy Gregory falling to 22, entirely possible but not probable. I was hoping for better numbers and WOW from the OL group, I want 4 gone by 22 so PItt has a faller drop into their lap. The problem with this theory is that the Bungholes pick right before the Steelers and Marvin will probably bone us.

Think this is a good year to need a CB at 22. I think (2) QB, (2) DT, (4) WR, (4) Edge rushers, (1) safety and (2) Olinemen are locked in ahead of us:

    Jameis Winston
    Marcus Mariotta
    Leonard Williams
    Danny Shelton
    Kevin White
    Amari Cooper
    Devanta Parker
    Dorial Green-Beckham
    Randy Gregory
    Shane Ray
    Dante Fowler
    Alvin Dupree
    Landon Collins
    Lael Collins
    Brandon Scherff

That's 15 guys that I think go ahead of the first CB. Then there are a few wildcards who could also slip ahead of them:

    Vic Beasley
    Shaq Thompson
    Cameron Irving
    Jaelen Strong
    Malcolm Brown
    Melvin Gordon
    Ereck Flowers
    Andrus Peat
    T.J. Clemmings

Personally I'm still hoping for Marcus Peters.

There was a 6'6" WR out of Georgia Tech i think i read about earlier. Ran a fast 40 time and pretty sure he had a nice vertical. Doesn't necessarily mean that he's a football player or just a track star...might be worth looking into if he's got good hands. Steelers sure had their red zone issues last season.
