Doesn't a suspension have to come with a repeat offense?

Umm...not sure since they kind of reconfigured the illegal substance policy for marijuana. He might only end up with a fine, but I'm pretty sure most us were expecting a 2-game suspension. It's not like he failed a test, just got popped with weed in the vehichle he was driving.

Bell's problem isn't weed, it's the DUI (from smoking weed). Under the new policy, a DUI first offense is a two-game suspension. He can appeal it and hope for a 1 game reduction but there hasn't been anyone suspended yet to my knowledge under the new policy to find an example. What really sucks is the new policy kicked in November 1st. Had Bell resolved his case prior to that date he would have been home free. Naturally, he didn't do that.

Steelers draft and Mel Kiper Sucks

Let's keep personal crap and general discussions pertinent to
    Our objective here.

I was Bites. I think the Steelers need to pick a backup behind Bell......which would also be good for the Red Zone if they pick one that an catch or rush in short yardage situations.....Although I think it should be a later round pick..... ;)

EDIT: Sorry, couldn't get on yesterday. Too many other things to do......

    IGLOO,

If you want a backup to Bell, there are 5 very good choices in this draft in the middle rounds. I like Jay Ajayi out of Boise but he will go in a round where Pittsburgh will still be looking to add depth to the D. With that said the 5 backs I would be happy with on day 3.

    David Johbson- Northern Iowa
    David Cobb- Minnesota
    John Crockett- North Dakota State
    Jermey Langford -Michigan State
    Marcus Coker- Stony Brook

This is a very DEEP class at CB, don't expect The Steelers to take the 4th best prospect at the position @ 22 because every draft site says they will draft a CB. You always take the player that is the best at his positon in the draft in this range. That could be Maxx Williams TE, but where I draw the line is that if Melvin Gordon is still there, th best RB in the class you pass.

Can anyone tell me the 4 common demoninators in the group of 5 backs I selected, I have my reasons.

If he's there in the 4th I'd go back to the Michigan St well and take Langford. Workhorse, good hands, good in pass pro.

Agreed Beach. The answer to my question is simply they are all big backs, with pass catching ability, no character issues I am aware of and the big thing for me. COLD WEATHER PLAYERS. If you want a back to run in the snow in Pittsburgh, draft one used to playing in snow and cold.

  9. StlCrtn Franchise Player Steelers

I really like Cobb. Kid has deceptive speed (kind of like Bell)
Langford was an absolute monster at the end of the 2013 season. Plus he has backed up Bell before.

Okay. I don't follow college football that much so I'll take the guys here word on it. I can follow through the 1st and partially the 2nd round but get lost after that. :)

EDIT: As the old saying goes, "Pittsburgh is a PRO Sports town", before any college team here......

I'm not too wild about Maxx Williams in the first right now because he's a fringe first-rounder, even if he's tops for his position this year. I documented several times how I think TE is this team's biggest need, but I'd rather not follow that script to a tee if it means value with every pick.

For corners, I'm not a big fan of Trae Waynes, and I agree that if Marcus Peters interviews well, he would be a great pick at 22. Senquez Golson is undersized, but a baller. My biggest gripe with him isn't his small frame, but questions regarding his dedication to football.

There are several backs we could pick later that would suffice for us, like you pointed out. I'd be shocked if the Steelers were seriously considering Melvin Gordon or Todd Gurley.

  12. gidion72 Legend Steelers

If we got a freak like Gurley we would have to find a way to get him and Bell carries. 2 Very good RBs would be a something we couldn't afford with the other glaring needs that we need to make a run or 2 at more Lombardi trophies.

P.S. How 'bout those Rangers? Do they have another Stanley cup run in them?

No, they don't AJ.......Once the Guins get their full compliment of players back (whenever that is), they will fly out to the division lead again like they did at the beginning of the season! ;)

EDIT: I have a good article on Sapp for all Steelers fans to read in the Sapp thread. Try it, you'll like it! :D

You might be singing that I would still be calling it a bad pass. Unlike many fans I can take a step back and take the teams out of the equation.

F'n IPad erased my whole FN post, grrrrr.

Here is it again, and I learned to post, then EDIT after that debockle. There is a log jam of RB graded in round 4, and I feel teams will start cherry picking in this range. The Steelers should get a 4th round comp pick for Sanders who signed a lucrative 3 year 15M deal. But that is just an educated guessimate. Pitssburgh got the very first comp pick, 97, for Wallace who signed a 5 year 60M contract with Miami. But they pissed that away on a speedy midget, who I am still scratching my head over.

Anyhoo, I think this is a smart move for Pittsburgh, take a RB in round 4, because teams are going to start cherry picking. I hope they have a better plan to fill in for Bell than Archer, a guy off the street, or a practice squad player. In that round 4 take a DB, I do not feel warm and fuzzzy about Ike and Troy playing at the level they need. Cost effective to cut both, not sure, not my area, but the NFL is a business and the Steelers are in the business of winning.

Round 1 I am not locked onto anyone at the moment, even Kevin White should be in the conversation, but the history shows Colbert does better from round 3 and on for WR. Recent Colbert drafts, you can almost pencil in a big time Conference. ACC, SEC, Pac 12, Big 10. Maybe MWC or MAC, but I think they look at those players in round 3 and on. (Sdanders, Archer).

So here is the possible players available at 22, who are not a QB, RB, or a 4-3 DE,

Landin Collins cannot see him getting past Cincy
Trae Waynes- not a fan of BTW
Marcus Peters- more red flags than China, but I would not say NFW.
Arik Armstead- I dunno man, he is pretty unpolished
Vic Beasley- yeah he can play in the 3-4
Shaq Thompson- not sure he isn't a 4-3 OLB
Alvin Dupree- very possible but Kentucky doesn't fit the pattern of big conferences
    Gerod Holliman- over hyped JMFO
Danny Shelton- a 2 down NT who I saw get washed out more than I prefer to see
Davante Parker- 2nd best WR on many board, but not a Power Conference player
Jalen Collins- I know he is a second rounder, right, but based on what?/ ESPN LOL, Draftek, or Walter Football? Show me his rating on OurLad's, then we'll hash this one out.

  16. I'm not the least bit surprised by him saying this. They left SO MANY points on the field this year (and yet still ended up scoring more than 30 other teams in the league), but they struggled in the red zone. Having another year with Martavius Bryant and drafting another Tight End (Maxx Williams anyone?) will help Ben make better decisions. I DO think Ben struggles to make adjustments in the Red Zone and, as a result, they are forced to settle for a field goal. Giving him another target or two might help balance the scales a bit.

Also, I know most of us complain INCESSANTLY about the corner play (which WAS horrendous), but a lot of that came from a piss-poor pass rush. A good pass-rush creates pressure and sacks and mistakes and turnovers. The Steelers have had an OKAY secondary for a VERY long time because they had an insanely dominant front 7. However, the Steelers also didn't exactly TRY and create pressure, as their linebackers were constantly in coverage. Hopefully that changes with Butler.

The Steelers are in a VERY tight spot at OLB, as Jason Worilds hasn't exactly proven himself worthy of a huge contract. Justin Houston aside, the talent pool at the position in FA is not good, so the Steelers may have to roll the dice and give him a decent contract or someone else is going to WAY overpay him. This is a "bite-the-bullet" move where the Steelers can draft someone this year to create depth, but that won't be forced to start.

  17. This is one of the few drafts that I would actually agree the Steelers can afford to trade back in. I know the whole "BPA" idea, and the Steelers employ it pretty well, but if Vic Beasley or Alvin Dupree aren't available, there really aren't a lot of other guys that are great players and fulfill a need. I would not be surprised to see them trade back with someone and then grab Maxx Williams. It's possible the Steelers sit pretty at 22 and grab Williams anyway (a move some might consider a reach, but if you can plug him in day 1, it's not exactly a bad idea). If he gets past the Steelers, I see the Titans moving up to try and grab him from someone in round 1, as they will draft a QB and you ALWAYS want to draft a weapon or two for your new QB. I know that Kevin Johnson may be on everyone's radar, but I am not sold on this kid yet.

  18. igloofn68 Guest

I looked up Spiller's numbers and I'm not impressed if he has to go a whole game or two. Plus he's injury prone. I think the Steelers can draft a better and cheaper back than him in the mid rounds.....I would take him out of the equation, imo....

  19. LoveTheSteelers Franchise Player Steelers

I haven't looked at Collins, but of the other players listed those are slim pickings. I would add Maxx Williams, he might be there at 22.

Other than that, I'd say trade back if possible for later value picks. I'm just not overly impressed with most of the borderline 1st/2nd round guys, so if you are able to gain some picks in rounds 3-5 GO FOR IT. This is almost like 2009, when there wasn't a lot of flash at the end of round 1 and they took Ziggy Hood.

  20. I completely agree with you?there's a lot of talent in this draft, but it is all muddled around round 2-5. If you don't take Maxx Williams at 22, I would fall back a few spots?and still maybe get Maxx Williams if they don't fall too far.
